  2. FF13 had a very pretty engine for scenery and animating a few extremely detailed characters, which was the complete opposite for an mmo. The opening cutscene in the 1.0 footage stuttered like that because it was running everything in real time, and NO machine could run FF14 1.0 competently. Hell, even the game's own servers couldn't run it but that's a story for the speakersnetwork and noclip documentaries. Basically Squareenix was so focused on the graphics that they made zero attempts at optimization, which is why you ended up with situations like a flower barrel taking up more polygons and shaders than most game's entire fully animated characters.
