  1. honestly, the "japanese games are better than western games" is really morronic, considering we are watching a documentary about how the attitude he describes basically killed the game. And it's not just my interpretation. Yoshida himself described all the staff and departments as kinda artisan or samurai, perfecting their craft, not taking thhe other peoples workin into account. The way yoshida restructed the staff and approach to making the game is a really western one. With settling on a medium in quality that all artist can achieve and a medium in programming since 1.0 was using scripts and scripts are ususally more expensive performancewise than proper code and automating teidious work instead of doing it by hand. If you compare what Yoshida is saying to stuff cliffy b was saying 10 years ago or carmack or ken levine or any big name japanese game designer & director that jumped shipped and declared the japanese gaming market as dead and going to work with western companys, it is literally the same thing. The same grievances with how japanese game devs weren't innovating their approach to making games. But oh well, I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how misguided it is.

  2. When the playerbase met YoshiP for the first time, we called him a Rockstar instead of a Director, because of his fashion sense (and bling).
But with all that he's done since taking the reigns of FFXIV, he can be the Biggest Rockstar ever and we would cheer him on, no questions asked.
And yes, he has sung with The Primals band at least once or twice at Fan Fests.

  3. If you got the time I HIGHLY recommend Zanekonpu's videos. Especially Tomorows! They have splendid FFXIV own Storytelling content and its well done! a lot of them made me cry!

Edit: No wait.. "Tomorrows" is a little bit spoilery on the area side aka you will see the shadowbringer areas..so it might be better to put that on the list sometime later.

  4. another thing, yes there are legacy servers and no it's not just for legacy players. It wasn't recomended to start on a legacy world since those world already had players with millions of gil and an economy, that would soon be more expensive than on new servers. but if it's not congested, you can still make new characters on those servers. chances of actually seeing the legacy gooboo mount or the legacy chocobo and the tattoos is just higher than in other servers since over time legacy player spread out and changed servers, since now they weren't all in japan anymore and you could transfer to somewhere where you actually had a good ping

  5. I cried so hard when the trailer hit and then for the next couple of days everytime I wanted to log in and realized I had dead software on my desktop. Like yeah it was terrible in the beginning, but like Koji said, I think they did some of their best work on it and I truely would love to be able to reexperience the game as it was in 1.23b. It charmed me instantly when I saw the original openings with answers playing, held a large chunk of my heart when the world was destroyed and became so much more over the years.

  6. 1.0 had only classes, no jobs. So we had Conjurer, Thaumaturge, Pugilist, etc but they did not evolve to jobs. Instead you could use skills across classes. Later on in 1.21, job crystals were added as a specialization. You gained new role-specific abilities and lost the flexibility of using cross-class skillsets.

  7. Think your chat have wrong info regarding Legacy servers. Sounded like they were implying it’s some sort of secret servers for only Legacy players. It’s not. Anyone can join. On Chaos DC for example Ragnarok is the Legacy server. You could have joined it but chose Omega instead. You can visit any time with world visit tho. So yeah. Not the super secret Legacy only thing chat implied.

  8. what he said because programmers aren't all good (everyone can't be or isn't an amazing programmer), they had do make sure they're managing everyone to avoid mistakes and to optimize their time through a scrum type project management style

  9. I played FF14 1.0 beta, and like yoshi-p talking about the UI, it also made me quit within 5 minutes.. although it took longer than 5 minutes because there were a lot of tabs to go through and each one lagged before it opened… I didn't look back until they released A Realm Reborn, so alas, I missed out on the fancy back tattoo legacy players that transferred from 1.0 to 2.0 got

  10. I may just have to keep an eye out on your videos, Albsterz. Your content seems very wholesome and endearing and I would love to witness your journey through FFXIV. I'm, personally, taking an hiatus from the game after having played off and on since 1.0, but I'm still frequently keeping tabs on how the game is progressing. Youtube often gives me related recommended videos to watch and that's how I stumbled across your content. Seeing new players come to the came and showing love, support, and passion for this game really warms my heart to see, as my memories with this game are filled with many, many cherishing moments. I've made genuine friends thanks to the communities playing in this game and I'll never forget any of it. This game has unwittingly become a part of my life and the memories I've had will be everlasting regardless of whether or not I'm still playing after Endwalker releases.

Thank you for making me smile today. You've earned my sub.

    Much love

  11. big fan of ur ff14 videos, some constructive criticism. As a youtube only viewer, i think id be better to only include your comments on the video. Your interactions with your twitch chat are confusing when we cant see them. We want to see your reactions and comments, but its hard to follow you chatting with twitch chat. Or maybe include the twitch chat in the video so we can see what your responding too. Either way keep on keeping on!

  12. For everyone's own good do yourself a service and don't watch any commercials released post fanfest I know it's tempting but it's more exciting to see it later in game rather than being spoiled on good amounts of the dungeons, ost, assets and scenes outside of game

  13. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like chat is making things more confusing for you, as you try to piece together what was in 1.0 and what is in FF14 *now*. (And also what was in FF11)

  14. I cant wait to come over to your data Center and play with this mini community. With enough people we could do a custom alliance XD 24 people. We did it on Jenova, it would be fun to do it with the Albz community

  15. I agree that you should watch the Speakers Network mini series on this. Watching the fall of Dalamud through player's eyes did make me cry. I got to see a lot from a player's side and it was amazing to see.

  16. "Before being a developer, they are human beings"

This line alongside the one on the next part of the documentary where he gave advice for people to take a break from the game from time to time is why I respect that man. And I respect the company for going with a radical idea that paid off in the long run and became a living myth in the process in order to gain the trust of those that stuck by them.

  17. 8:26 It's better because of (natural, kinda) selection. In order to reach the international market, Japanese games has to be translated. For that you need money, which came from either brand familiarity and/or good quality. Bad games that did not earned much naturally did not get translated, thus did not enter the international market. Stupid comment is stupid.

  18. I'd like to go through a playable version of 1.x. Not in the state it was in, obviously; I very much appreciate the gameplay and QoL the game has now. I just wanna experience the story firsthand rather than watch a 3-4 hour compilation on YouTube.
