It has been a long journey, but I have finally made it to FFXIV’s First Expansion, Heavensward. I watched the trailer and have been completely blown away by how well the game has come together and why its best to watch this after playing the game.

Context does matter a lot in this game! A lot of music, lyrics or scenes or trailers get new layers of meaning even within one expansion beginning vs end, not to mention from expansion to expansion. And in my experience sometimes the context is SO important that the piece loses a large part of its emotional value without it. It may explain why ppl who skip the story struggle to reconnect with it later but also why this community has such a large base of people watching others experience the story for the first time. Not only you get to see the reactions, but also look at the events with your new understanding of context. Also you have really great insights on the game and its aspects, been really enjoying following your experience, glad you like it here!
"that's a lot of dragons"
yes… that's the theme of the expansion honestly
Arr is… Soooo long.
Heavensward is my favorite expansion in terms of story.
I havent been able to watch your HW streams but its soooo much better than ARR. Looking forward to your time in there.
How do we get him to do min ilvl Garuda/titan/ifrit extreme ?
Heavensward is where the game goes from good to great.
why do I always cry after every single cinematic of this game ?
Maaaaaaaaaaan, all the other trailers too, can't wait to see your reactions to each one
3:03 — Not Estinien, but basically any dragoon of their order: they all wear the same armor.
10:35 — Same. I cant watch any of the trailers without bursting into tears. Now, I get emotional when I hear music, it just gets to me and it goes through my bones – no kidding. So when I watch these… yeah, say good bye to composure.
Music is a huge part of the game. They use it to really convey the emotions they want, and the wide variety you will experience is just so amazing. From "high gothic" to freaking "pop" music, you will not be wanting for great music.
This is the expansion that did it for me, (of course Shadowbringer is awesome and the best) But this one is the one that truly make me feel the story telling and action of the game, what I felt is like Realm Reborn is a political warfare while Heavensward is just open war for survival (as the trailer shows so no spoilers at all)
You should play Nier: Automata before it's featured collaboration raid in FFXIV, for context and all that jazz.
When do you truly start Heavensward?????? i wanna see you go through my favorite expansion Dx
So to clarify about Meteor
That isn’t his Actual name, more or less a fan name given that he’s, by definition, a Meteor Survivor via Answers
Heavensward is the expansion I started playing in, and the gothic/medieval aesthetic is a favorite of mine, so maybe I'm incredibly biased… But the music, imagery, plot tension, etc. included in the Heavensward trailer makes it my absolute favorite out of all of them. Still gives me goosebumps.
Heavensward is still tied for my favorite trailer for FF14, tied with Shadowbringers for so many reasons that I cannot wait for you to discover. o7
I still go back and watch all the trailers. And even now they still hype me up.
Entering Ishgard through those gates for the first time was a big deal for some players. It was the gates that you could not enter in 1.0. this. area was never put in. New players would not have known the diff. if they had skipped over this. They realized the promise made from 1,0 in 2.0. Just one of the reasons their. fan base is loyal .
Congrats on stepping into Heavensward! Do you think you’ll unlock Dark Knight after wrapping up the msq?
I've always viewed ff14 trailers as not something there to pull in new players but rather something to hype up current/old players while potentially tickling the interest of general FF fans and the curious alike. Something closer to an anime/tv shows different season intros and further away from something like a movie trailer.
ARR trailer hits even more after latest expansion. But it must been a expierence seeing first half of it as 1.0 version shots down. Glad you enjoy the game so far. Give a extreme trials a shot for a little step up in dificulty.
The last part of the trailer never fails to get me pumped even after all these years.
Ohhhh you're getting it.. lol the wheels are turning faster and there's no brakes. The weebest fighter with golden fists
So, one hint: rewatch the ARR trailer once you finish base Endwalker. Plz remember this comment in 2 years :v
Every trailer for this game's expansion have been peak moments of hype for me, but nothing can replace that feeling of Finishing ARR for the first time, go through the banquet and everything that follow, sit down, watch the trailer and then walk into Ishgard with my friends. Then logging off for the night.
Welcome to Heavensward!
Yeah, context truly matters in FF14. Especially the music!
The main songs of each expansion can have drastically different meanings as you progress!
any FFXIV trailer is good but if you think this one is your favorite, I can't wait until you see the trailer of <redacted>
The drachen armor has an adjustable visor. You can actually raise and lower it like the trailer 💜
I think your trailer reaction highlights the games greatest strength and it's largest weakness, such I'm sure you're already aware of. It rewards investment and paying attention to an insane degree – but also that can leave it feeling weird or even alienating to someone who rushed through the story and didn't really take in the scenes along the way.
I'm glad you've finally stepped into Ishgard. I've been excited to see your reaction to the end of 2.5, which is where many people will say "omg now I need to know what happens next"
Honestly, this is why I always kind of groan when I see other fans pester new or yet-to-start nonplayers to watch the trailers for each expansion. They have ZERO context and it's just not gonna hit.
Before I started, someone pestered me to watch the Endwalker trailer and I was like "those sure are some Final Fantasy looking characters and locations" and it didn't register.
BUT when I came back after finishing Shadowbringers? Chills.
to me the fun of watching the trailer is good before and after the game
Before the hype: Who/what/when/where i wanna know what this story is this is cool (Cool trailer to cool pumping that adreneline), the song is ok
After the context: oh thats cool nice touch , that parts great like that. thats great, this song be bopin its so great (Now i got the emotional connect Less Hype but more emotion and the song goes on the playlist)
Or to put it simply i get more enjoyment out if a non-context blind Cinematic/trailer as it gives the drive/battery/selling point to get into the book.
were as with context its less exciting and just a fun oh hey that a neat tease to the 80hour book i read/play
and that goes for all games.
The Smell is Part of the tast afterall
Your going to love this expansion. I'm in end walker and heavens ward is still my favorite story
One thing that hit me during this trailer as a longtime fan. The dragoons are always portrayed as loners. Perhaps the last of their clan.
And for Heavensward? The war is on. SQUAD UP!
ARR trailer only makes sense if you played v1.0 — Bahamut is Yoshi-P recreating Eorzea from the ashes. You should search for the v1.0 in-game event where you can literally see Bahamut about to destroy the world. Up until today, Heavensward is still has the best story telling followed by Shadowbringer — the rest are meh. Welcome to the dragoon corps.
Will you be posting your reaction to the ending of ARR?
The music is why I started playing this game. I got the new Theatrhythm game and as I played through the FFXIV course I got more and more curious about the context for this AMAZING music. Then I hit the final boss theme for Shadowbringers and thus began my journey down the rabbit hole and just under a year later I'm never leaving.
Caff…I realy hope you get to your dream: "Full-time-streamer" soon…because your re-caps and these videos are AWESOME. And I know they are a lot of work…..and with the next expansions you have to edit even MORE…. Folks…if you not subed…if you can be member…DO IT NOW!!!! Thx for your content, Caff
i played ffxiv but i think its to dialoq heavy
This trailer made it very hard to find any worthy replacements for the level 60 dragoon gauntlets and helmet until Endwalker patches.
I'm about to head into HW too (again, I made a new character after 6.1) and can't wait to re-experience it with you.
I have seen that trailer so many times and I still get chill bumps 😂
