  1. I'm sorry if I'm going to hurt some people but Square Enix can not make good video games anymore I'm not talkin about Final Fantasy 14 because is a special case but tell me for the last year what good game Square Enix publish or produce if you're struggling let me help you none and this year I will argue it's much much worse in 2021 Final Fantasy 7 and the new game coming soon forspoken it's one of the shittiest PC ports ever seen in gaming history okay maybe I exaggerating a little bit but it's still bad and forspoken the "game play" trailer was so bad Square Enix had to delete it from YouTube I am not going to speak for outriders or Marvel Avengers we all know it's just bad games and that makes me sad just hearing for the legacy of squaresoft work it looking now the only thing I have to say is shame just shame

  2. I played the original FFXIV game. Bought the Collector’s Edition, new PC (as I played FFXI on PlayStation & Xbox), etc. it was so bad, I only played for a couple of months. It took the pandemic and a streamer (not one of the WoW content creators) to bring me back.

  3. Really interesting question about the game's popularity in the east vs west. I get the sense that in Japan it's wildly successful, but I imagine also that China has its own thing going in terms of popular local MMOs (but not sure).

  4. The reason why FFXIV is just better overall, is bc their bosses admited when they were wrong. You could have a blizzard or Activision executive at gunpoint with all the proof of their wrong doings, and they would still die on the hill of short term profit they could make over trying to make any long term benefits. And now they are acting like they care to change, but it's too little too late. We are done, we are tierd of the corporate pandering, and even if they truley made better choices for the health of the game and the players, we are just done.

  5. Japanese , korean, Chinese players love grind games.
As for 'following as lead', FFXIV just this year got successful, it is only now we can observe.
All I can predict is they will follow the lead by starting with 'subscribing their games'
because ultimately, if you want good fund for a developing game you need a huge chunk of monthly income.
I don't think free to play or once-purchased games will thrive beyond their capabilities beyond because the payment stops.
Because of this, monetizing comes in, and that ruins all. So …. it's mixed feelings. Besides, they are all competitors.
Unlike other games however, FFXIV takes great inspiration of other games. I just think many game devs these days think of how to make money, not how to make good game. Most don't play their game, Yoshida is a player among us (and I still crack up at him wanting to rage quit savage when his static fails)

  6. I think if there were a 1.0 server the real appeal would be the tourism of it and there are better ways to do that than bringing up 1.0 servers. Yoggscast for example has a playthrough of old FF14 you can go watch and boy howdy it was bad. For example; they pick Fisher as their starting job and if not for the other player in the starting area, I think they'd have actually been trapped and unable to complete the intro.

  7. FFXI is not a bad game. It’s old and built on old design. philosophy. Due to its age, however, they’ve added a lot of systems the compensate for the lower population. Trusts come from FFXI. In XI, they’re doubles of characters you’ve met all through the game that you summon to fill certain roles or give you certain buffs. They’ve also added weekly, daily and hourly challenges that give you currency to buy gear as the auction house is far less active. There’s also a ring you can buy with. increases your XP gain by more. than double. It is a LOT easier to get into FFXI and enjoy the story without being bogged down by grinding.

  8. It's not about the CEO wanting to say more, it's not his job to know what is public information or not, whether it's so marketing is more impactful or really any reason lol. It's not like he's jailed behind it, it's in his interest for the PR to keep track of what he can say that's why he pays them and why he asked 😛

  9. The issue with the different scripts conflicting with each other was pretty common across the software development space back then and still exists in some respects today. It's usually a problem when you have multiple teams working on a project with very little to no cross-collaboration, communication or integration.

  10. Yea no, you do not want a 1.0 rerelease. It's not like a wow classic situation where one could argue there are good things about wow classic that makes it playable where 1.0 was ACTUALLY unplayable XD.
