I'm kinda shocked how little this affected you. Haurchefaunt was the one nice ishgarduan we met in ARR and the reason we were able to escape to ishgard at all after the bloody banquet.
However I do agree that Count Fortemps's reaction is by far the hardest part of this sequence.
This devastated me. He took you in when everything fell apart. He was also you greatest champion when you were trying to get the airship to battle Garuda. I’m a sentimental person and this hit hard.
Not everyone has to have same thoughts/emotions even on iconic moments, thats the beauty of FFXIV, so stop forcing people to have same reactions as you had it is unreal to expect and if not then go watch someone who fakes shit geez people!!
playing through this section, I was…in a similar boat. I respected Haurchefant, admired that he was there for us in one of our darkest hours, but wasn't really attached to him as a person. then, playing through the Vault as a White Mage, left me just upset that my character couldn't do more to ease his pain before the end. frustrated, not sad.
but that return to Fortemps Manor, holy hell I cried. and now I can't look back on the Vault without feeling some measure of sorrow.
"A smile better suits a hero", now that you're in the know, is the eternal " " code phrase for guarding against spoilers. Obviously Haurchefant didn't do it for you as much as the Edmont breakdown did, but I think you might see how plenty of players would bawl at your valiant shield and #1 Ishgardian fanboy.
Remember, Haurchefant was the first person to help you after sht hit the fan at the end of post-ARR. he's been supportive every step of the way. even gave you that flying chocobo.
Haurchy got hit by an unhealable spell. you'll encounter it when you do the Extreme version of the last boss of this expansion. when a player gets hit by that, they cannot be revived anymore.
Samesies. I was said Haurchefant died, but it was his dad breaking down that got me. A parent shouldnt outlive their child and it broke me. I wouldnt want to my own dad to break down like this let alone anyone elses.
you think you do but you don't
Haurchefant doesn't get everyone in the feelings…. but his dad afterwards? Yeah, that hits pretty hard.
FYI the blast severed his spinal cord. No healer, even if one was available immediatrely, could've saved him.

The point where XIV really begins to show its teeth…as it bites you right in the heart!
What's messed up part about this is I used to cosplay my Lalafell as Haurchefant and /playdead near the quest NPC after the dungeon and afk.
Was getting ready to disown you, but you came through in the end by being moved by Count Edmont's reaction.
woah you're here already?? nice!

Man i felt so bad when this happened to me
You must hear what Haurchefant said in japanese, is 100% way funnier and better XD
Haurchefaunt dying is kinda sad – but his father's reaction is what makes it sad.
