  1. The single straight line down the centre of Paladin is also like the sword.

With Dark Knight, the spikes are kind of like the hilt of their sword, but also it's reminiscent of one of their spells, the AoE with lifesteal that looks like a spiky ball.

Gunbreaker's icon being off balance like it is is also like the barrel of a gun being broken, as in the name and origin in lore.

The icon of scholar uses a similar central arc to the summoner imo, since they both arise from aracanist.

  2. There might have also been an opportunity to speak about the classes before you get the job stones, and blue mage (Where would you rank them ?). Otherwise, intersting topic ! I've always thought they're part of the job identity,. And as a SMN main, I absolutely love my icon for no good reason. ;p

  3. Completely dropped the ball on Reaper. 43:27 the circle and the dimple on it represents the player and the way they are facing. Think about the way the player holds the scythe. Thats what this icon is, its a direct translation of the players stance and the direction they face when holding their scythe. Dont even play reaper at all, but it still sucks that you missed that little trait. i always thought it made reaper one of the better looking icons for that reason. Its grim, its edgy, its the player.

  4. One thing to note about the sage symbol: it used to have holes in all of the needles, but they changed it due to possible trypophobia concerns.

The old one also had everything identical size and pointed straight down.

Now one thing I just now noticed about both versions that fits with being a science healer: the center going into the "eye" of the lower one is very much like an injection syringe!

Edit: lol, continued watching and interviewee mentioned the trypophobia side.

  5. In defense of the reaper, if you pick the right dialogue options talking to Zero, she comments that your relationship with your avatar is equitable and the avatar seems like its on board.

  6. The DNC one can be a stylized heart (and is not only present on the artifact gear embroidery but also in the Closed Position icon and buffs which give the impression of two hearts dancing as one) BUT it’s also very reminiscent of the ‘eyes’ of peacock feathers, which is visual imagery that is very closely associated with DNC as a class! It’s on the job gauge, most of the artifact gear and also on the stone peacocks decorating that one dancer’s pavilion in Thavnair!

  7. I'm pretty sure monks icon is meant to be the "Heaven" symbol from "I Ching", mostly known from the top left part of the south korean flag nowdays.

Bard did used to be a caster! They used to have a fair amount of cast times and stylistic elemental spells, they've slowly changed to what they are now over like 5 expansions.

I always saw machinists icon as a weird wrench gun hybrid which was a fun combo.

  8. Monk's icon is inspired by their classic claw weapons, so your joke about wolverine is actually exactly on the mark.

For Sage's icon, I'm pretty sure the bottom of the 4 shapes is just a laser going pew pew, which is why it's distinctly different from the other 3 portraying the nouliths.
