Also, sorry for the video glitching around the halfway mark. It goes away pretty fast but I’ve never done a video in 4K 60FPS and it takes like three hours to render so I suppose you live and you learn.

Endwalker takes you to the moon and is the big conclusion to Final Fantasy XIV’s ongoing story. It also won Best Ongoing Game at The Game Awards so that was pretty cool. There’s a lot of epic trials, dungeons, and more that were added to the game, as well as a whole load of other new, exciting content. Endwalker brings the tale of Hydaelyn and Zodiark to a conclusion eons in the making. To unravel its mysteries and conquer its challenges will be no common feat. May these records of key figures, looming adversaries, and lands yet untraveled serve you well. The addition of the brand-new jobs sage and reaper is accompanied by updates to the battle system, including new actions for existing jobs and a raised level cap. The long-awaited male Viera playable race is only one of many exciting additions and upgrades that will enhance your upcoming adventures.

  1. I think a lot of your criticisms of the quest design and the dungeon designs are valid…but…

I also feel like you're kind of missing the main point of the game. Endwalker , the MSQ at least, is like 95% story driven. Even some of the quests that you hated, like Out in the Cold, are there to support the emotions that the story is trying to evoke in the moment.

Out in the Cold is supposed to enhance the anxiety and the powerlessness that you're supposed to feel at that moment in the story, by literally making you anxious and powerless in the gameplay. Now is that fun gameplay? No, absolutely not…but it's not supposed to be, it's more of a storytelling mechanism than a gameplay one. So when you look at this from a pure gameplay perspective, of course it's bad.

The same is true of all of the "talk to X people" quests. They are there to enhance your connections with the characters or delivery story points. And I get that if you don't care about the story they will be boring, but that's kind of like watching the Godfather and constantly complaining about how people are just talking, why isn't there more action??

Now all this said, I do agree that the gameplay elements of the MSQ could use some improvement. The "follow this person" quests can be frustrating, and I would have liked to see more gameplay interspersed with the story than there was. And like you said, the dungeons all follow the same formula that has been followed for years and years. But all in all, that's a minor criticism for me, because the core of the game, the story, was so excellent that the weakness on the gameplay side doesn't matter as much.

  2. Ive felt the same way about the body swap section. One of the things I hate most in video games are when they handicap you or take away your power after earning it. I was mad, frantic, and anxious to get thru. But i soon realized that was the point of the mission. To convey various emotions during that helpless moment. It also teaches the player how OP the WoL is compared to lone soldier. After understanding that, I've thought it was pure genius design because I sure fell for it.

  3. FFXIV is an MMO renowned for its compelling and incredible storytelling. That is its emotional core. You made a review of FFXIV starting off by admitting that you skipped most of the cutscenes. It’s like making a review of League but admitting that you only played bot games, or reviewing WoW by admitting that you never did any dungeon or raids. It’s not a very useful review at all, because you missed out arguably the main point of the game.

  4. The story and dialogue is a masterpiece (occasionally slow paced, but happens). I'm guessing you didn't follow it, in which case I'd be inclined to agree with you, game's just not that fun if you're not following the story. I'd rather play league of legends
