BLM sucks is the issue if u are goin to take away the playstyle and make it rigid and then on top of that make it do mediocre dmg thats just not it fam
Ive unlocked both but haven't touched them yet, partly because i can't decide which one to focus on. Initially ive been wanting to do Pictomancer so maybe.
I finished MSQ with my main and now working on the crafters and gatherer's.
Having a stockpile of 90+ leve quests has helped with gathering levelling.

Right now, pictomancer has EVERYTHING. High mobility, high damage, buffs and mitigations. I think they should just lower some potencies, because the gameplay is really good, it's like a summoner-black mage hybrid. About the other jobs, I can't say because I'm kind of biased against the leveling pattern in this expansion (at least for the classes I leveled, Viper, Pictomancer, Warrior and Bard). The role action buffs are really nice, 40 second Swiftcast is huge, but classes like Warrior get just one more button. It's not that I don't like it, it's just that for me it doesn't feel "powerful" enough for level 100.
I have always healed and havent looked to much into it personally, but isnt Black Mage usually on the lower end the beginning of an expansion due to being so reliant on sub stats?
So do YOU have an opinion about any of this, or……..??
No offense but I could have just read the blog post on Mogstation and got as much info and value out of that as I got out of this video.
Pct is fine, other classes have suffered at the bottom since the beginning while blm has been at the top forever. It's not like blm has become bottom tier or useless. And it's not like PCT is miles ahead of the class below it.
Edit: If you actually look at the logs, it shows that these numbers are for dungeons, which is a high movement activity, of course BLM will be lower, but if you bring up actual DPS (not normalized) BLM is on top, meaning they're still pushing out top damage if I'm reading that right. Also, there's 6800 PCT parses with only 1900 blm parses.
If you look at just damage to bosses in the dungeon parses, Viper is actually on top (both norm and per sec) with pct behind it and then sam, etc. BLM is in the middle. Again the delta between the classes is minimal, they need to just either improve BLM numbers (which I believe they're doing) or improve the game play (which blm gameplay is horrible in my opinion). PCT also has a bug where they achieve higher dps by removing the buffs (however that works), which could also be affecting these numbers. As of right now that's all SE is doing to PCT.
Again, wait until raids are out and we get numbers from that, gauging dps from dungeons is pointless.
If you use parse or logs in ff14 then you’re part of the problem.
people are complaining about picto when the next three classes in the game are the most braindead dps classes in the game. picto has to atleast manage movement with their abilities and their two minute window is can be stressful when leaving and having to return to finish getting the buff. the other classes dont have to adjust anything viper only has three buttons they are getting rid of some positional. if there was any class to be mad about it's viper.
Glad this is getting addressed early, I don't think them being a little stronger is an issue right now, but I could easily see people wanting 4 pictomacers only for the upcoming savage raids just for that few extra % faster clears.
I saw somewhere of the DPS in TOP. PCT is absolutely blowing every single job out of the water in that fight. It's incredibly overtuned. How this was allowed to go past QA is wild. I remember when starting DT, I glanced over at PCT after getting a handle of it's rotation and was shocked at how often the high potency skills are used so I knew this data was gonna come out eventually. And when the trials came out, I wasn't wrong. PCT, a job that isn't that hard to play, shreds on everyone else. I know SE won't nerf it so they're going to buff all the jobs instead, which is a double edged sword.
Problem is BLM does so little damage. High Fire and High Blizzard got gutted basically, each one doing only a measly 100 potency so they're not even useful for AOE. AOE is now just High Blizzard, Freeze, Transpose, Flare x2, Flarestar. Just flat out skip high fire. As for single target, yes the ceiling was lowered a bit but PCT is still far easier to play than BLM and is just flat out better. The buff to enochian was not enough.
It’s either overpowered or the other casters are underpowered. It has healing, shields and a party buff yet is still on top. By their own logic (it’s selfish dps so it should be high) doesn’t follow.
I'd rather see BLM buffed (and a lot of its rotational strictness around Flare Star, Thunder, and no Ice Para fixed) than PCT nerfed. I think having non-raise casters being able to duke it out with the melee top dogs is generally a good thing.
If BLM isn't pushing out pure damage, much like SAM, then there's no reason to take it over a job with far more utility, of which the other casters have in droves.
PCT is fun as hell in PvP. They get a Madeen death ray cannon that binds and also tends to kill anyone hit by it and has insane range, they get a set of instacast spells (Aero in Green etc.) and a set of slower casting but more damaging spells (Blizzard in Cyan). Smudge helps them escape sticky situations, and their LB is an AoE regen + defense boost.
the classes are pretty balanced in numbers for anything to be necessarily stupid op to need nerfs, i think black mage does need some potency buffs to justify its playstyle but it always gets some love and potency buffs since its usually weaker at the beginning of an expac
They can never allow a caster besides BLM to outshine the entitled mongo melee, and the only reason they allow BLM to compete is because it's so outrageously rare for it to perform on par with melee that in practical terms most melee will still outshine most BLMs.
Ridiculous game balance entitlement, when melee barely have to worry about uptime anymore, true north has trivialized positional frictions, they have 10-11k more hp than casters with better self sustain and snap mobility. Melee LB3 is the most useful LB3 by far.
But it is never enough. Casters have to rot with the physical ranged dps over some shitty swiftcast rez that is of niche relevance in most content that ehavily punishes deaths with tight dps checks or body checks.
The AOE is just terrible, and the level 100 new skill is equally awful but I'm sticking to my BLM because it's the only class I like, and I only do very casual content so I'm not changing my rotation while I still play but, each time I forgot, and run out of mana, several seconds were wasted pressing buttons I never used before. Probably the healers did more damage than me, several times, thankfully it was roulette
For those which changes jobs according to their enjoyment or damage, I don't think there's any reason to play BLM, you still have the long casts but with lesser damage, and to top it all, you have to manage your mana. Such delightful new playstyle!
How about Buff every job to pair to pictomancer , ffxiv community is annoying can’t have any job that does good damage with out someone like well if my job can’t do that damage then this job is broken like Ninja like bard an many other jobs that came out with great dps now they suck ninja damage is so awful now days monk is bad bard is bad mch is bad blm always been the top dog because everyone assume due to it being yoshi P job he play as game will never be balance there always going be a job that does more than another either had support jobs that don’t do as much damage an do more utility or make all the dps jobs the same dps an the player would be the reason why they top of the chart
If we look at a normal PF scenario, I don't think that the 95th+ percentile is going to be the standard, we will probably see 75th to 80th max, where viper and reaper easily take the top spots. While picto is good in an optimal scenario, there's no need to panic. We can also take into consideration the 1% dps increase that was discovered by removing the aetherhues buff manually to pump out more water casts. With that removal, alone, the 95th percentile parses will adjust, accordingly. (Black mages still are a bit lower than expected)
Picto is fine as is tbh. It’s not the strongest job by far. What they need to do is either make blm not be shit or remove some of the buffs from picto. I like the idea of having a caster on par with blm, like viper with samurai. Would be a shame to ruin that tbh
