For those out of the loop, a recent modding project called Project XIV Voices has been revealed and there have been multiple instances in the past where FFXIV modders have done things that draw extremely unwanted attention to parts of this community that the FFXIV team themselves have openly turned a blind eye to. A lot of this attention from some recent official contests and events have led to a consistent pattern appearing which is modders using in game assets, be they datamined or slightly edited items that the FFXIV team created, then subsequently paywalling them. We talked a little about that today and the problems that come from paywalling mods in general.

I'll just leave this here, for what It's worth, as It was posted on the mod author's original video.
"Leaving a comment for anyone else who stumbles on this thread: XIVV is now moving to a donation model and is completely free for all users."
For posterities sake I want to put here, in case anyone gets the wrong idea from this segment of stream. I like this mod. My issue is with modders drawing unwanted legal attention to the modding scene via their method of monitizing the work they put in.
at first i thought ment they bringing voices to voiceless but instead its adding emotionless voices to people with voices making it kinda >_>
I agree. paywalling mods is retarded.
I think what he means with the "Sync with the server to allow you to download the latest voice files" means it automatically updates? Like as he updates and changes the voice lines and improves the quality and such then it automatically downloads them. Instead of having to wait like 3 months for a massive update with all the new and improved work you get it as he publishes in the server you download from.
But yes very weird wording and maybe just my rose tinted glasses looking for the best meaning
Personally, I'm not a fan of pay walling mods. Not from a legal standpoint, but from a moral standpoint. I feel that pay walling mods is a scummy practice, especially when a paywalled mod uses assets that were not created by the mod creator. As someone who creates mods for the game, FFXIV modding requires hard work and it's understandable when someone believes that they should be rewarded for their craftmanship, so they monetize themselves. The problem is how they monetize their modding. A good way would be through donations, or commissions. They should not straight up paywall mods, or have a subscription service like FFXIV voices.
I literally had a realization as I typed that last sentence. Why the hell is there a SUBSCRIPTION SERIVCE, for a MOD of a game. What a world we live in.
Someone I know took a printed out gpose of her character, posed with a minion glamoured to look like Erenville, while she was wearing datamined clothing, using a body mod to give herself bazoongas, with custom face and hair with reshade slapped on it to the London fanfest… and had Yoshi-P himself sign it. Boggles my mind that people don't care about not shoving it in people's faces as if Squex doesn't care.
i came directly from TERA to ff14 after TERA installed an anticheat software that traced your PC and scanned it for mods etc. the software essentially killed what was an already dying game. if ff14 gets to a point where they force an anticheat on you, the playerbase is going to drastically drop. let's try and save each other all that.
it's like the wow pay mods i just download them for free
cute 3d avatar and good takes subbed
