Final Fantasy 14 NEEDS More of THIS!!!

Final Fantasy 14 is one of the most feature dense MMORPGs out in 2022. FFXIV has so much content in it… but that doesn’t mean I can’t ask them for more! In this video we discuss one thing Final Fantasy 14 should be doing WAY more of, and its something that Guild Wars 2 does fantastically… Jumping Puzzles!

Final Fantasy 14 is not as movement focussed as Guild Wars 2 is, but jumping is a feature in the game, and Squeenix should capitalise on it!

  1. I can definitely agree with the sentiment here, the jumping puzzles and really xiv at large needs more things to collect or reasons to do things like JPs outside of just sightseeing. So many of the JPs like like firmament, shirogane etc are literally just for “nice view”.

That said it’s def a tacked on system. You can find this early jank as far back as ARR sightseeing before flying was a thing there.

Coming at this perspective as an oldhead xiv player just now getting into gw2 pretty hard I can honestly say that if xiv can even attempt to try to match things like JPs in spirit a little more it would be to their benefit.

  2. I gota agree with aether curent idea of puzzle jump, but as a FXIV veteran (playing it for almost 10 years now lol) There verry technical issues. I don't bother with FFXIV jumping puzzle in the first place cause they are pointlessly hard, why that? Cause of the technical issues of a lot of thing. FFXIV jump is stiff, it's a verry bad and classic jump mechanic, no air control, but also server side some input doesn't register proprelly, and to end my point : THERE NO Z AXIS in FFXIV, any skill you wanna use as the Ninja teleport, a dragoon jump or anything will bring you to the ground faster cause server side your hitbox always touch the deepest ground it can. In GW2 i can jump, air control my jump, CHEESE some jump with my class defining abilities, i can TELEPORT my friend or be teleported by using class mechanics or item, shit i can even return in time with one of the Sandswep isle item, all of that make a pretty good mix to make GW2 jumping at a whole, one of the great experience it is. FFXIV jumping is absolutely garbage, puzzle jump design are borderline boring in design, and also, far from what everyone think, FFXIV devs are lazy, and won't bother one day to rework or redo this whole part of the game, so no, the jumping puzzle for aether current would be a verry bad design choice, and even someone like me, who love GW2 jumping puzzle, would hate it period in FFXIV. Thanks for the video, great work as usual guys <3

  3. The no flying restriction can easily be enforced anywhere by using the no mount debuff the game uses in several locations already. That's really no point of the discussion in my opinion.
Other than that, due to the aforementioned accessibility concerns and the fact that people immediately don't want to do something they feel forced to do, jumping puzzles in XIV absolutely must remain optional. But the game already drowns the player base in currencies, vendors and side activities. Make jumping puzzles just another one which randomly rewards gil, MGP, orchestrion rolls, pets, glamour items, what have you – similarly to most other side activities like deep dungeons or firmament crafting, and let each player decide for themselves if that's something they enjoy doing.

  4. I enjoy your videos, alot 🙂

Yes moving in gw2 feels so good. I have completed all 44 JPs on guild wars 2. I'm including all on the hero panel -> general -> jumping puzzles. There are new ones with eod.

  5. I don't play FF14, but I play GW2, and forced JPs are the worst thing ever. Especially when they are added to group content (fractals anyone?), but that's just another level of outrageous. The reason hidden areas are fun is because they are hidden and not a lot of people get to see them, and you get to see the world from a perspective that not many people do. That's why getting to the airport above Ironforge before cata was fun, and why all of the awesome places that GW2 takes me with those JPs are an absolutely annoying chore when I have to do them all for the Aurora collection. Everybody's been there, so you can't tell your friend about that cool corner of the game world you visited that was not seen by most people, and most people didn't know existed at all.

WOW on the other hand did have such places that were rarely visited, because there was no content associated with them, and they were out of the way of where people playing the game for rewards would ever go to, so nobody was there, and I'm not talking about just the glitches. You could take your friends on an expedition just to enjoy the exploration, and that's what made these things worthwhile. But funneling everyone to those places destroys the appeal, because the people funneled there are there for the rewards they can't get through the content that they actually enjoy, and people who would enjoy doing that exploration don't enjoy staying in those places because they are crowded with people who are just there for the collection.

TL;DR JPs should be hidden and should not have significant rewards associated with them to maintain what was actually fun in glitching WOW.
