  1. other tip for vesper bay, should you run out of tickets or are a hoarder like me: teleport to limsa lominsa lower decks, then teleport to archanist's guild, then take the ferry, and you're right there.

it's more clicks, but it's still significantly faster than the classic walking way

  2. If you finish your Hunt Log for each Class that you can (up to lvl 50) you get a Nice Glamour Ring for completing it =D
If you aren't as big about the time it takes to do things, you DON'T have to use the Aetherite Tickets to anywhere. Wander around the world, take in the beautiful world that the developers put together for us! I hate teleporting because this world is just so large, vast, and varied. Take your time to explore it, look at the plants, animals, creatures, other players, Mounts, and minions that you come across on your way. This is an MMORPG, it isn't a race, it can be taken slowly, and enjoyed.

  3. I think it's important to note that "trial testing" jobs at higher levels via PotD only really works if you've gotten that job's respective soul crystal after achieving level 30. Otherwise you'll still be limited to that job's base skill set (i.e. marauder skills instead of warrior skills).

  4. FF14 does have specs, its just that the specs are other classes/ jobs, since you can play all jobs on one character. Meanwhile, your class choice in something like WoW is more to think about, as once you create your character you are stuck with that class unless you want to start another character. So, if you choose Warrior in WoW you are stuck with being a Warrior on that character and only being able to be a DPS or Tank on that character, while if you choose Marauder you can at level 10 choose to switch to another class if you feel Tanking isn't for you, like, for example, Rogue, a Melee DPS.

  5. On GC deliveries, make sure to set the filter on the dropdown menu to Hide Gear Set Items or you risk turning in equiped gear. I learned this the hard way.

  6. Tip regarding the blue quests: That a quest is unlockable at a level (e.g. lvl 50) it doesn't mean that it is recommended to do them at that level. The trials and raids unlocked after each big story part (end of ARR, end of each expansion) were for adding an additional endgame content that was hard at the time it came out. (Like extreme versions of the primal trials.) Some people still do them at this level with the best gear available at that early stage, but mostly for challenge and nostalgia. You'll wipe a lot and that can be frustrating at times. Therefore it's better to wait with them until you are above that level, then you also don't even need a full group but can go in with a bunch of friends.

Tip related to this: If a quest belongs to an extreme trial, wait with activating it, because you can only have a certain number of quests active at the same time. It can even lead to you not being able to continue the main quest, if your journal is full. (Luckily, there is an "Abandon" button to clear it the fast way. You have to start over with the quest later again, but when it comes to extreme trials, this often only means reading two or three dialogues again.)

  7. I think the biggest tip that I can share is don't be afraid to tell other people that you're new.

The community in FFXIV is largely very different from the community in other games, if you're a new player people are much more likely to take note of that and do what they can to help facilitate you through your play experience. If you don't know what you're doing in a dungeon or feel like you need help ask and 9/10 times someone will be willing to help you.

The other thing I can suggest is to really explore the settings of the game, if you have things that annoy you there's likely a setting that will help alleviate that. I didn't know for the longest time that you could auto-skip cutscenes you've already seen for instance. Or that you can turn off the setting that makes you auto turn toward your target when you press an ability.

  8. “The MSQ isn’t going anywhere.”

I agree, but only after I’ve unlocked flying in ARR zones at MSQ level 50. I’m only barely into Heavensward, but I like knowing that the good stuff is just there waiting for me when I get bored.

  9. Imo Beast tribes > MSQ > Blue Quests > Side Quests
Beast tribes give a very decent amount of exp and take weeks to 100% so unlocking them early will benefit you in the long run.

  10. You can also take a ship to vesper bay by teleporting to Limsa and warping to the Arcanist guild. Talk to the NPC behind the desk to the left of the guild. Takes you right to the waking sands.

  11. Where the quest is listed on your ui. Sometimes a quest has an item you need to use to complete it. Or an item to use on an enemy to weaken it. You can actually just click the item icon in your ui to use it! Don't have to go through inventory and mess with menus. Just target the destination or mob, and click the little icon.

Side tip, clicking the blue text under quest name open the map where you need to go, and clicking quest name itself opens the journal entry.

  12. Most side quests are not super important (they're more for additional lore) but there are a few side quest chains that unlock blue quests. Some also unlock stuff like emotes. One big example is the quest chain for unlocking a certain Heavensward beast tribe, you won't see the blue quest until you have finished certain side quests.

  13. Never played an MMO thats so tedious like FFXIV. When i think about it i have never in any other MMO where i have been runing back and forth so much as in FFXIV and i have played Black Desert, GW2, WoW, Tera, Blade and Soul, SWTOR. I'm at lvl 49 and something tells me it wont get better. You also get alot of loading screens because of areas being instanced same as Tera. It lowers the experience of an immersive world and thats one huge thing i don't like about instanced MMO. So far FFXIV feels kinda meh. It's a little bit fun though playing midifiles as a bard so not everything is bad with FFXIV. Oh yeah i refuse raid for reasons and i heard Crystal Palace is mandatory so i guess my level progression will halt at that point.

  14. I can't thank you enough for this video. I just switched from WoW to FF two days ago and I'm lost. The learning curve is steep for me. Oh, and I agree about tanking in WoW being super stressful. I stopped because I just wasn't having fun in end game content with tanking or healing even for that matter.

  15. It shocks me to this day that no matter who I talk to, we ALL remember the pain of the Waking Sands. We didn't have tickets back then… we just had pain. How that got past the dev phase I will never ever know.

  16. I really do love how a lot of people have to tell people to "Have fun" It's funny to me because on one paw it's true, Have Fun, on the other it's WEIRD that we have to remind people to do that. Has WoW really torn the Fun from us?

  17. Don't skip cut-scenes you haven't seen and actually watch them. Especially on the MSQ. As tempting as it is when entering a dungeon for the first time, don't do it. Enjoy the cinematics and story. If you skip them you can quite easily get lost plotwise if you miss something important.
Do skip cut-scenes you have seen before. There is an option to automatically skip cutscenes you have already seen. When running roulettes you don't really need to watch every time.
Do let the rest of the party know when you are doing a duty/dungeon/trial/raid for the first time. They may give hints or pointers on specific/unusual mechanics and should check if you are in a cut-scene before pulling bosses. Some may even give commendations if you do a good job first time out (or as a reward for those extra poetics they earned). Even when watching cut-scenes you can pull up chat by pressing enter.

  18. something that annoyed me is that your class mechanic is so far off somewhere random on the screen probably default position now if that is what you are comfortable with fair enough but oof

  19. When you mentioned the walk to the Waking Sands, I thought the tip was going to be to port to Limsa and take the ferry to Vesper bay.
I didn't even realize that I was getting these, or what they do.
    I'm level 52.

  20. I made the mistake of taking every single quest that I possibly can take and I fell into the same "I'm 5+ levels higher than the MSQ" trap as you did. And doing that actually made me NOT want to play ff14.. watching this video and you telling me to just focus on MSQ and the blue quests was a life saver, and I thank you for that. I'll definitely have to come back to ff14 now!
