Full guide for fixing launcher issues and non-Steam Square Enix account usage with the FFXIV Trial on Steam Deck.
Steps:
1. Use Discover to install a text editor(gedit) and ProtonUp-Qt
2. Launch and use ProtonUp-Qt to install GloriousEggroll Proton
3. Open Dolphin (file explorer) and Show Hidden Files
4. Navigate to /home/deck/.local/share/steam/steamapps/compatdata/
5. For demo open 312060 for non-demo open 39210
6. /pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV – A Realm Reborn
7. Edit FFXIV_BOOT.cfg changing Browser and BrowserType to 1
8. Back to Gaming Mode
9. Change FFXIV Steam Play compatibility to GE-Proton…
10. Add launch option NOSTEAM=1 %command%
11. Enjoy!

Thanks for the video! I just wanted to check something since I have the non-steam version for desktop use and wanted to use it on my Steam Deck. If I install the demo, would it act like the traditional non-steam launcher once I logged into my service account? Or would I have to download the client externally out of Steam completely. Thanks!

Hi! Great video! Unfortunately I cannot even get as far as where you are…… The directory you show where the config file is – I have that directory but it is completely empty. There is nothing there for me to edit! How do i even add my FFXIV to steam on the deck in the first place. I have the non-steam version. I've never played it on steam before – even on windows. What I did today was download the FFXIV installer, add that as a non-steam game, run it from steam desktop mode, and that installed ffxivboot.exe and bunch of stuff in /home/deck/.local/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2182175551/pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/SquareEnix/FINAL FANTASY XIV – A Realm Reborm/boot. I added the ffxivboot.exe as a non-steam game, but it won't launch. It just dies immediately. I'm obviously doing something totally wrong………… Any help or suggestions would be appreciated – basically – how do I add non-steam FFXIV to the deck?? Anyway – thank you so much for your video!
Great video… thank you… I wouldve been lost with out this video.. saving it so when I get my deck it will be the first thing iI will be doing..
So I'm gonna get my steam deck, sometimes next week. I have all the expansion. I'm not a steam user for FFXIV, Would this method make it work If I don't have FFXIV for steam? I'd love to be able to do casual content and be in bed lmao. Savage and ultimate I'll use my PC.
