Final Fantasy 14 | A Realm Reborn to Shadowbringers (5.3) – Final Impressions

This is a final impressions video made after a 10 month-long blind playthrough of Final Fantasy 14, starting from A Realm Reborn (2.0) until Shadowbringers (5.3), created from the perspective of a non-MMO gamer, but a long-time fan of the single-player Final Fantasy games. This video is designed to inform said gamers of what their experience playing Final Fantasy XIV will likely resemble in terms of the story / character / gameplay experience relative to the more familiar Final Fantasy games.

While Final Fantasy 14, from its 1.0 inception to its 2.0 resurrection and 5.0 climax, may have started as an MMO game first and a Final Fantasy game second, at its heart, it is a quintessential Final Fantasy game that deserves to be ranked among the best the series has had to offer in a long time.

  1. Great video and glad you enjoyed your time with XIV and are looking forward to the future of the game with the rest of us, well, after Endwalker of course! Also seeing and editing these old clips must have been a fun walk through memory lane lol

  2. When I finally decided to play FF14 my goal was to play it as a single player FF entry just with a massive amount of side content and that worked surprisingly well. For context I haven't enjoyed a FF or bothered to finish one since X & X-2. I abandoned 12, 13, and 15; each time faster than the last. FF14 is the game that made me a fan of the franchise again.

The end of ARR (2.5?) was the turning point for me when I realized I was actually invested in the characters and story so I was going to stay and haven't regretted it since. Also I had the inverse reaction to Stormblood where I enjoyed the Far East but the Gyr Abania side dragged for me. I didn't hate any of it, but the split narrative never managed to come together for me so it always felt like 2 expansions smashed together.
