It seems Bellular has finally finished FFXIV ARR and it’s been quite refreshing to see him genuinely hyped about a game which is a stark contrast from when he covers WoW nowadays.

i mean the story of the patches is excellent…..but the questing felt really patience testing. For example: Crystal Braves? fuck yes. Going around all three cities to be rejected by 2 out of three npcs while recruiting Crystal Braves? FUCK NO, worse the most important member of the Crystal Braves wasnt in that mission.
I wasnt the biggest fan of going around Rhalgr's reach, but at least that was one city and not three and felt less pointless when somitimes i could easily guess wich of the npc would reject becoming crystal braves.
But i will concede this, my experience was colored by the fact that i wasnt enjoying my job (Warrior) so i was looking foward to Dark Knight for a change of airs and the patches felt like they were getting in my way. If i had picked Paladin (a job that im enjoying a lot more) i probably would've had an easier time with the patches and ARR in general.
I've come to terms with the fact that my experience with ARR was a 6 in part because of my job choice (in other part because im still salty about my first time in Preatorium) but if i had started in Ul'dah (i fucking love Ul'dah now) with Gladiator it probably would've been a 7 or even an 8.
Honestly i wish my friends didn't tell me that arr was boring and for me to rush to heavensward.
Later i went back and saw streamers playing arr for me to catch up on the story, but I would've preferred if i had experienced it myself.
I can only speak for myself. I did the arr msq years ago, when they had a stupid amount of filler quests. It was boring and awfully paced. I always told people its badly paced but when it hits the important story beats you need to pay attention. I haven't gotten back to do the msq since the rework but I hear its way better now.

FOTM [Flavor Of The Month] rotation of what is good or isn't good via nerfing classes, is a tactic for them to artificially increase engagement metrics. You gear 1 class, play it for a while, next patch it gets nerfed, something else is better, now you need to go get that alt, get it through all the BS you did on character 1, AND the new patch new to boot. And that one change caused them to increase them engagement metrics a load.
Why ELSE would they so obviously avoid honest attempts at incremental balancing. Give it a thought. Especially if you take into account, some people say eff that, and boost that alt. ta-daa metrics AND cash.
You gunna talk about his coils video?
Post ARR still by far the most boring part personally but it's indeed not bad and it's setup really well for HW
I'm just a little past the first end credits for Heavensward right now and in my opinion the events around Nanamo's invitation to her announcement and the aftermath are currently my favorite part of the story easily. Overall I think HW is a lot better than ARR, and a lot of the post-ARR stuff can be a bit dull, but that one section is the best from the game as a whole so far. The only thing that really comes close for me right now is the Haurchefant stuff.
The Nanamo/Raubahn section was the part of the story that made me sit up and start taking it seriously. I was enjoying it for the most part before then, but after that I was emotionally invested.
Oh also, found the original remix video I believe

cheers
I stopped for a week when I saw there was more quests. And more and more. But glad I took my time to finish them
blizzards cinematics are the payoffs to things they haven't bothered to build up
Thanks Ruri! I was really depressed and you helped a bit <3
Yes, absolutely. Patch ARR content is better than some of Stormblood.
0:50 I did it, but it really as the ending in patch 2.00 lol
Post ARR is only boring if you’re not really invested in the story, but if you are really interested it’s actually good content
1:00 I did it, but at the time it was actually the ending. We had to wait for 2.1 for more story… 😂

Let's be fair. What people need to understand now about the climb from ARR to Heavensward is that the questline between the two was full of fluff content to pad game time for endgame players. It was only recently the massive list of quests was cut by a third or more to help streamline the experience more. For a lot of players who went through the original grind there is still a lot of bitterness directed at that point in the story. That was also the point in the game where a lot of people quit. I only made it to Heavensward because I had friends keeping me sane and pushing me through it. It may not be as much of an ordeal now but we do have to recognize that it was the single worst point in the game's timeline for many years.
i just finished it too, god it drags on
I want that remix of Bozja so bad
