Our Final Fantasy 14 journey continues! Today we are switching things up and doing some chill DRK leveling!

Welcome back to Tiny Blue Games! My name is Csaw or Chris, and today we are talking about Final Fantasy 14 in 2021. Today we are taking a break from the MSQ to level up our DRK. In the last video I received a few comments about how far I had progressed through Stormbool and initially, I was really excited to hear that… but then I remeber that I needed a DRK at level 70 by Shadowbringers and I started to panic. So here we are pushing our DRK to new hights!

As a relatively new ffxiv player, I have enjoyed giving my first impressions of the many different pieces of content this game has to offer. If you are interested in exploring the game yourself I suggest you check out the Final Fantasy 14 free trial. This trial lets play all the way to level 60 (including both the base ARR and Heavensward expansion), with no time restrictions. It was ultimately the free trial that convinced me to dive into the full game and the new Shadowbringers expansion!

👀 How do you like to chill and level?

  1. The Armoury Bonus is actually very simple. If your current job's level is less than your highest job's level, you get +100% experience up to level 70, and +50% experience after level 70. That's it, that's the entire rule. Level 70 will change to level 80 in Endwalker.

As an omni-tank main, and someone who has helped many a sprout begin their tanking journey, I can tell you that anxiety over getting lost or going the wrong way while tanking is a very common thing. I can also tell you that most players in this community are very understanding, and will help you out if you get lost. Just be up front, and tell the party that you're new right at the beginning, and that you've never tanked the dungeon before and people are more than willing to forgive any mistakes you might make, they might even give you tips along the way. I can also tell you that once you get to level 50 nearly all of the dungeons become completely linear with basically no option to go the wrong way, and non-linear dungeons disappear entirely after level 51. The only way you can go the wrong way is backtracking to places you have already been.

Also, if you're still stressed out about it by the time you get to Shadowbringers, know that Shadowbringers introduced the Trust system, which allows you to run dungeons with a squad of NPC companions from the MSQ. And I actually recommend you do this anyway; the NPCs all have unique dialogue commenting on what is happening in the dungeon, as well as recent events in the MSQ. They also have different dialogue lines depending on which other NPCs you bring along, so bringing NPCs A, B and C will give you different dialogue than if you had brought NPCs B, C and D. It also gives you a chance to just stop and look at the scenery between pulls without worrying about wasting anyone else's time.

  2. The armory bonus, the one for levelling a lower level job, doesn't have much maths at all. It doesn't matter how much of a gap it is. All that matters is if there's a job higher level than the one you're on and your current job is above or below level 70. IIRC it's 100% when you're on a job below 70 and 50% when you're above 70. You may have other bonuses though, like preorder earrings, rest bonus and food that further boost your XP.

  3. A note on Shadowbringers dungeons; they are pretty darn linear, so there's not too many places where you can lose your way. And if you're still feeling anxious about the run, you can always do it via the Trust system instead. But you can do whatever you feel more comfortable with!

  4. Shadowbringers dungeons will actually be easier for you blind and solo. It is called the trust system where you take NPCs with you in dungeons so you don't have to worry about mistakes. Plus you can go and look around in the dungeon scenery without burdening other players. It is going to take longer but that is the only downside soloing dungeons.

  5. For frontlines, you can actually queue with the job you want experience for and switch to another job you are comfortable with once in the instance and still get XP for the queued job. Also don't worry about watching videos ahead of time for shadowbringers dungeons as you can use the npc trust system for all of them as I'm sure others have mentioned. I really enjoy your fresh perspective on each new dungeon/trials and thankfully the devs took into consideration anyone worried about group dynamics, tank anxiety or just worried about inconveniencing others when they made the trust system.

  6. Really tanking in this game is not hard, I find Healers more anxiety inducing in this game then Tanks, and you know how to heal.

So some things to say to atleast get your mind set:

Don't think of yourself as the Leader. You are not leading a party anywhere. Other then Haukke Manor, and Wanderer's Palace that can be maze like, everything is incredibly linear. Their is nowhere to lead, because the dungeon will take you where you need to go.

Think of yourself as just a dragoon or a samurai fighting monsters on the overworld, a Tank is nothing more then a DPS just getting hit by the enemy. Hell best thing to do is sorta think of it almost like a blessing, you are a DPS, that doesn't die from a few mistakes, you are hard to kill, and if you die, it is not the end of the world, unlike a healer that die more easily from a single mistake, that can lead the death of a party. A tank death doesn't mean a fight is over.

Don't stress out on pulling too small or too big, Right now you are in the low levels where everyone barely has a single AoE, and healers don't have the strongest heals. Go slow Once past level 50, inch your way in, try double pulls then try wall to wall, and if you find yourself uncomfortable just tell people that you are new and say you going to take it slow..
