The HUD in Final Fantasy 14 is totally customizable, and every player will have a different looking HUD. There is no “best” or “optimal” HUD layout – it’s entirely dependant on what you value as a player. This video aims to teach you some concepts that you can use to better place some important HUD elements by showing you how I’ve assembled my own HUD layout.

What would you put on a cooldown bar for MCH? You could make arguments for Reassemble, Wildfire, Drill, Air Anchor, Chainsaw, Barrel Stabilizer, Double Check, Checkmate, Tactician, and Dismantle. Way too much stuff.
I guess you could conserve space by omitting abilities that correlate to another ability, ex. if Barrel Stabilizer is up then Wildfire should be up soon, so maybe leave Wildfire off.
Ok this is awesome. Rearanging my hud again today😅
The cooldown hotbar is a good one, amma try that.

Excellent advice. I use something similar to your CD bars in my layout to break the habit of staring at my bars during fights. Two 6×2 bars around my character hold anything that has a CD or a proc to watch, so my eyes never drift from the 'feet' zone. At first it was to hide my main bars so I couldn't look at them even if I wanted to, but I decided to keep the main bars hidden and only use the two tracking bars. Having everything centralized in a little box around my character has made it so much easier to keep track of mechanics.
Although I hope we get more bars at some point. Between macros, menu and job change shortcuts, mounts, and consumables I have like 3 bars dedicated to things that aren't related to the job I'm playing but I couldn't live without. And I would love to space out a bunch of the abilities I'm tracking to make them look nicer, like how I might with weakauras over in WoW.
new plyer here
but having an mmo mouse, i've found myself loving the 3*4 shape for the main hotbars i actually click to, it visually match the mouse layout
i dunno, it confuses me less than memorizing the keybinds although is literally the same
Would love more XIV videos from you, especially in the guide/education category.
Thanks for watching everyone 🙂 I've always been more of a streamer and I'm pretty inexperienced with editing videos, so I hope this one was at least somewhat watchable and that you gained something from it!
