Where can I watch the vod where he played ffx? Kinda wanna watch it now.
I totally agree with rewiring your brain for FF games. As a WoW player I was surprised at first that I didn't need to pick up items for quests or otherwise. I needed to pay attention to the story because it matters. I love it now. So much to do. The story gets better and better.
I have to wonder if people who compare FFXIV to anime have ever watched an anime in their life. Or maybe the Naruto generation has a much more superficial and cynical view of entertainment mediums in general and are incapable of discerning any kind of nuance. Just parking everything they consume under a broad umbrella. As someone who has been taking in RPGs and anime both since the early 90's, I have no comprehension of this prevailing mindset. Meanwhile games like WoW which are literally crafted to look like a cartoon are considered serious forays into fantasy.
I think the most important thing that makes FF14 stand out is that, regardless of how “anime” it might get, it’s very sincere about the story that it’s telling. So many media properties feel the urge to add in a snide wink to the audience whenever they use well-worn tropes, but FF14 is content to say “the power of friendship saved the day! and that’s awesome!”
I recently started FFXIV, and I got through everything in time to start Endwalker, starting in July last year, and finished Endwalker MSQ during the early access weekend. So you can say that I burned through the candle of my life quite quickly in getting through the game. But, even during ARR, when everyone was saying that was the "bad part", I kept saying "if this is the bad part…" because I loved ARR. I loved the feeling like I was an Isekai protagonist waking up on that cart and getting that call to adventure, joining an adventurer's guild, the whole RP experience. And then to see that story evolve the way it does: phenomenal.
What lead me back to ffxiv for 2nd time after I loss my interest just from 1 hour of gameplay are the scene where Nanamo cry and the dinner scene in 2.55. This maybe why I enjoy ARR and post ARR more than HW perhaps, I just had a singular goal to know the context of why those scene happend and that keep push me forward and try to get in detail for everything. I'm a weird person, spolier about ending without any context make me enjoy story more than spoiler free.
WoW definitely has burned a lot of people's brains and made them unable to enjoy any other game without serious effort rewiring themselves. this was blizzard's plan all along puts tinfoil hat on
I always tell people if you can't watch LoTR then you might not be able to get into FF, its a process of world building then the meat then the end.
I think it’s like books. Usually when I read books it takes a bit to get to know the situations or characters and I go on thinking it’s investment. Thinking this game is a long saga, you need a bit of patience. I liked arr and sh too but I know if there are 10 tastes. Some expansions 8 out of 10 people like it, some 9.5 (According to score). It is what it is but if it suits you, this will be an amazing adventure and more than the average number of people (almost top) who like the other games like this adventure.
