Reactions to anything that happened after the Seat of Sacrifice are coming! I wanted to keep the video around the 1 hour mark and couldn't fit the rest in. Expect them soon!
I am starting Endwalker this Friday (the 16th) as well as watching the Cinematic tomorrow (the 13th) if you fancied joining us on the adventure.
47:10 ish – don’t click. Face roll your keyboard 😉
(It allows you to press a lot of things at once. You can do the same with a controller – i tend to just run my thumbs across the face pads. Either way, clicking is the most likely method to get yourself RSI and also fail due to the difficulty. Make sure you’re not typing in chat when you do though. That happens and it’s very funny.)
Time to watch Endy look adorable and smiley through 5.3 (even with the emotional content)!
That little touch how Ryne becomes the narrator when Exarch is gone. The story never ends.
There's a moment that gets overshadowed, but when Elidibus reacts to the incantation, he asks you a question Thordan asked you after defeating him: "What are you?"
Every time I play through or watch someone play through 5.3, I usually start crying during the dungeon (all our friends we made are helping us! q.q) and then it just doesn't stop lol. I'm so glad it resonated with you and you enjoyed it as much as you did! Hopefully, I can break the shackles of the vod squad and make it to one of your streams this week and see you start end walking!
I have to give Endy credit for recalling previous dialogue from earlier in the story at really good moments in the playthrough. It adds a lil extra spice to the immersion. 🤌🤌🤌
"For any soul who has known despair,
that hope is everlasting."
This line is giving me courage to keep on living this world.
The one trick FFXIV pulled off that I haven't really seen an MMO pull off before is they turned your Generic Adventurer, your custom character, into someone with a past. Someone who had been important, had family and friends and loved ones, who lost it all, even the memory of it. And yet stayed true to who they were.
And they made it completely compatible with whatever headcanon backstories we invented for our characters. And they gave us this backstory in a way that made us care about it. WANT it. I don't think I've met anyone yet who's said "This is lame. I don't want to be Azem!" Everyone I know has been reaching for every single crumb of that backstory we can get.
It roots our Warrior of Light in the world. They are still our character, our avatar… but they also belong to THIS world. They didn't just pop into existence at the edge of a forest, they have history and weight and an ancient duty. And that connects US to that world too. I don't know if all of that was the intent, but it really is a potent way to get us invested.
Congratulations on completing 5.3. hugs
Yay, I have been waiting for thiiiiis ! 😀
Still love your takes my man, so glad you get so many things by yourself !
So, don’t know if you remember this cutscene from way back in 4.0.
Go back to the moment when you meet the Temulun in the Azim Steppe for the first time.
Very…enlightening in hindsight.
So, I'm sure someone in chat or elsewhere has probably mentioned it, but I feel like I should bring up some IRL context behind the song for the Warrior of Light fight – To The Edge. When this patch was being worked on, at the height of the covid pandemic in Japan, Soken was battling cancer. The prognosis wasn't exactly promising, and he'd only told Yoshi-P and a couple other of the production team and asked them to not tell the rest of the crew. He wrote To The Edge while he was in a Hospital room – Square had accommodated him so he could continue working while getting treatment at his request. At the time, because of covid, nobody could even come visit him, and he wasn't sure if he'd live to see the song implemented.
That said, his cancer has gone into complete remission and he's continued to compose for Endwalker and is back to performing with The Primals and everything but that added context takes an already amazing song and adds to it some extremely potent emotional context. Not only is it closing the book on the unsundered Ascians and saying farewell to them… but it also serves as a sort of potential farewell from Soken to the community that he had come to really love. To the point that I honestly kind of dread Seat of Sacrifice coming up in roulettes, not because I don't like the fight (I love it actually) but because it's hard to concentrate on mechanics with misty eyes.
It's really cool to see people who let themselves get swept up in the feelings that the story is trying to pull from you. Not to mention the lore and speculation! So glad I found your channel!
5.3 is my favorite as well. The ending is just so wholesome. I cried my eyes our (and still do) on a lot of occasions.
Plus i screamed when G'raha joined the scions
Beautiful video Endy, it was a joy to experience this alongside you ❤
I love how this game constantly feels like it 4th wall breaks. Its not always explicit but so many lines can be related to real life.
The dialogue with Temulin is really great, and if you haven't revisited her yet she gets new lines after this fight.
Though one of my favorite details is that the part of Lakeland you drop into at the start of the expansion is "Forest of the Lost Shepherd"
47:38 A masterpiece in visual storytelling, and "Show, don't tell."
The snap, and the wave. You know exactly who that was, even though not a single word is said.
Very poggers my dude, keep on trucking fella
Nice fun fact, the first time you arrive in Shadowbringers, you arrive in the location "The forest of the lost Shepherd".
