  1. As my journey through sprout-hood continues, thought now's a good time to talk about some of the more BRUTAL lessons learned since starting out in ARR and getting into the Stormblood post-patch content 😁 Not to be used as a guide, of course. What'd I miss?! What's the roughest lessons YOU remember learning back in your own sprouting days?

  2. Got a small house a couple of weeks ago. I think I legit tried it for a whole day and the very next morning i got up super early and finally managed to get that one and I'd still consider myself lucky to "only" spend 1 day to get one

  3. Number 10 was my biggest thing I regret, you only experience the story for the first time once. I skipped story for 6 years in FFXIV. It took me that long to realize my mistake. It was the Shadowbringer trailer that made me curious enough to go back and replay the game. Thankfully for me, I had enough time to do that before Shadowbringer launched so I was able to experience the expansion at the same time as everyone else in the matter that was meant to be. FFXIV reminded me that past MMORPG I have played conditioned me to play an RPG the wrong way. Going back to replay the story wasn't as genuine as a sprout because all the dungeons, trials, and raids were spoiled to me for years. Most of which I have farmed so I knew them intimately. I just didn't have the frame of reference as to why those places existed.

  4. That Nidhogg stack marker is really well-done as training for what stack markers do 😂

You don’t know the HALF of how terrible lala are! Gegeruju, the twat that ‘owns’ Costa Del Sol keeps popping up in other quests proving how much of a monster lalas can be. Now I want mashed potatoes 👀

  5. Another harsh lesson for a player coming from WoW to FFXIV is: that incoming boss damage isn't going to hit where you think it's going to hit xD Initially, you will get hit by everything lol

  6. Your healer anxiety made me smile. I started as a WHM about the same time as you and I finished the MSQ with it today.
It's been great, and quite different from healing in say WoW Classic or SWTOR. Running into packs of trash with the tank and popping Holy is a very new experience! Most of the time in boss fights I'm spamming Glare and letting the tank take enough dmg to build up my monster Misery attack.
It's actually some of the best AoE dmg abilities in the game with a sideline in healing.
Pretty stress-free in MSQ content, tbh.

  7. My harshest lesson learned. Don't be like me who spent millions of gil for expensive dyes (Jet Black and Pure White, costs 200K-300K gil per bottle in my DC) everytime I setup a glamour plate. Dye the gear first with the most expensive dye you like before storing it in the wardrobe for glamour. That way, you don't have to re-dye it every time you use it for a glamour plate. And you can dye over them if you want another color. They will maintain the dye they had on when you stored them.

Use /isearch [item name] command when looking for any item in your inventory, chocobo saddle, wardrobe, retainers' inventory etc. That way you don't need to spend a lot of time combing through all of your storage. It doesn't need to be the complete item name, just a part of it.

  8. Mine would be not to beat yourself up for not being amazing instantly, also if you don’t seem to be clicking with one job try something you’d not consider as often they will surprise you.

  9. I can attest to the housing one. My boyfriend and I both have small houses and have been playing very on and off for around 9 months now. Our sub time is 100% dictated around when we get the auto demolition email so we don't lose our houses. Then we'll play for a month or two, let our subs run out, and repeat the process.

  10. I think the 'harshest' lesson I've had was to just stop using Cure 1 on my White Mage. Coming from WoW I had the mindset of Cure 1 being my cheap, efficient heal for light damage and Cure 2 being there for bigger damage spikes. Turns out it's better to just do damage until another heal is needed, rather than using Cure 1 every time the tank drops to 80% health. Took me a while to break that habit.

  11. I've heard several former WoW players comment on how the game has become nothing more than a rush to endgame, and I agree, ffxiv doesn't have that kind of feeling to it. then I learned about the Limit group from WoW, and while I'm not entirely sure if the whole group used jump potions, I'm pretty sure some of them did, simply because they came into ffxiv with the wow mentality that endgame is all there is.

  12. If you've finished Stormblood you definitely NEED to go back and do the Four Lords raids. There's a lot of Tataru in there 🙂
We pet Lalas because it annoys them, not because they're cute. It's a revenge thing 😛
What's funnier: When the sprout runs with the stack marker or when he runs TOWARDS the group with the move away marker, hehe.

  13. On the first tip, a lot of players also seem to not know about what are commonly called "Towers" Any sort of static place marked on the floor that requires a player or players to stand in and soak the damage. Usually if you see a marked spot with something above slowly falling into it or if it looks like there's some kind of empty indicator that lights up when you step in it, it means you're supposed to stand there. Quite frequently these will actually wipe the group if not done properly so keep an eye out for them.
On the second point, and it was sort of mentioned in a side comment, but both Red Mages and Summoners have combat rezzes. RDM has arguably the most powerful combat rez in the game because they can easily chain rez to bring up 2 or 3 other players in a matter of seconds. Healers and tanks should always be priority one, but spare a thought for the Red Mages and Summoners. Conversely, if you are a Red Mage at high enough level, you do have a combat rez (and a mediocre heal as well). Learn how to use it and be ready to use it. If you're in a 4 person party and the healer goes down but you're still standing there just DPSing you're doing it wrong.

  14. My personal heal prio list 1st at least one tank 2nd yourself 3rd other healers 4th RDM/SMN soon Reaper because the are able to rezz and then everybody else. Im so hyped for Endwalker the last Main Story bit is long time ago for me.

  15. DPS = deaths per second. Seriously, part of the issue with rezzing DPS is well, it needs to be done when the healer has a spare moment and when the healer isn’t just rezzing the DPS just for the DPS to die again 5 seconds later. Which happens all the time.

  16. My harshest lesson was that getting addicted to this game is worse when you play MSQ alongside your Husband who has less time to play that you do. It's like watching a series and having to wait ages for the next episode. 😭😭🤣🤣
