  1. Why are we celebrating, the problem is still out there and growing. I explain why we shouldn't just celebrate their github being removed in this video. It's literally JUST their github being removed. AccountID is still exposed. Playerscope funtionality still there, the databases very well could be in tact, they could easily host it in private repositories or otherwise. The data is out there. Why are we celebrating?

  2. Only SE can do something at this point but a lot of damage has already been done. Anyone can take a copy of the code and make their own version even if the dev backs down, just like there's a version of mare for the p*dophiles that got banned from mare.

I will say in defense of the plugin that you can have some good from it. Weeding out psychos who create alts pretending to be someone else to mess with people.

Also to let you know Cole. The video cuts out abruptly at the end there. Idk whether that was intended or not.

  3. There's a saying, "Every regulation in OSHA is written in blood".

There's no difference here, this app will kill the 3rd party support XIV has enjoyed. I even now doubt it was for him to track users that were undercutting him. This guy must have gotten paid for the app, was not compensated and decided to release the app to the wild.

  4. PlayerScope is a symptom.

A leaky API is the problem and it is not an easy fix.

Still, if you're using a mod like this – or even okay with such a thing – then I hope you get targeted and have to personally experience why such things are forbidden.

  5. If it's true that they've already got a database of 700,000 scraped playerIDs, it's going to require more than just a hotfix. It will require a full 12-24hr maintenance to not only implement a revised version of the new blacklist function that is entirely serverside and does not expose anything to the client (which is how it should have been ofc) but ALSO to scrub all the existing accountIDs and assign entirely new ones. Of course that still leaves the Lodestone, and I really don't understand how that isn't considered a problem. Japan has stalking issues the same as any other developed country with too-online people in it.

  6. Any viability of the database and plugin is dependent on constant updates. So as soon as SE hashes the accountid any already collected data will be worthless cause there is no real way of verifying its correct anymore. Its like a snapshot of what was true at one point in time. But as time goes on things dont sync up anymore. Ppl create new and delete old chars. They namechange. Change world. Fanta into new things. Change retainers. All this happens organically.

The point of Playerscope was never to give everyone your accountid. The point was to use your accountid to track OTHER data you had. Which they at that point would not be able. It would at most be a guess thats maybe true. So call it PlayerGuess instead 😂

  8. Holy shit, as serious as this is, the fearmongering and sensational nature Cole is bringing to this issue is not good! He explains all the ways people can go out of their way to get this too, why? What are you expecting to achieve with this exactly? More fear? More uncertainty?

  9. ok but do they have your password or billing info? I mean if someone is stalking you turning up to your house in game you can just report them you guys are on 100 over some stuffs that doesn't really mean anything no one is stalking any of your viewership in XIV so why are you hollering about it?

  10. lol Cole unintentionally telling everyone how to reup this add on.

SE is probably relishing in the fact that something else besides their bad game (at the moment) is in the spotlight.
