Could this be the beginning of a monthly upload schedule?! Maybe, we’ll see where life ends up taking me. But hey, it’s progress ain’t it!
A friend of mine had the idea of combining Answers with Close in the Distance, and I thought I might as well give it a shot, since both of these songs thematically fit very well with each other. After playing Endwalker, the messages of Answers and Close in The Distance became a lot more clear, with Answers talking about Hydaelyn/Venat’s sacrifice, and Close in the Distance sort of being the resolution to her, and your entire arc with her. This blending of messages we thought would honestly be perfect as the conclusion to a several year-long arc, and I don’t think there could be a better sendoff.
I immediately wanted to do a more retro synth cover of this because I mean hey, it’s in space and all and space is pretty synth-y in nature. I dunno, when I think space I just kinda think synth space opera in terms of soundtrack y’know?
I actually tried including the distorted version of Ultima Thule’s theme that you hear when you first enter the area, and the Answers melody was partly inspired by the 1.0 version of it when everything goes to hell, which thematically seemed honestly pretty fitting. That same friend also drew the cover art for the video you see, please absolutely go check out more of her work! Her twitter’s linked in the description! If you look closer at the cover art, ya might notice a few little details here and there…

I was crying so much by the time I first heard close in the distance and hearing this did make me tear up again, but in a good way. It’s good tears remembering and this is such a good cover 😊
This sounds like the opening theme to an 80s sci fi action movie, like big letters scrolling by like the terminator. But with Final Fantasy logos and Amano art scrolling by slowly.
I love the implementation of the song getting more dynamic over time. Feels like the natural progression (as they did in the MSQ)
The "answer" that I seek.. was rather "close in the distance." TY Calico, I needed this to cope with my EW needs.
