  1. it sounds kinda ridiculous to me, how much he praises the FF events. Sure they are fun for 20-30 minutes and interesting. But why end the comparison at WOW vs FFXIV? Guildwars 2 has several annual events with huge replayability. Some of them give you hours of playtime, jumping puzzles, special game modes, seasonal decorations, achievement chains and special rewards. FF events are hardly worth mentioning compared to GW

  2. Doing RP for the first time, I was blown away that your head and mouth move when you say things in chat. Emotes and dances are so vibrant and expressive in FF14. Epic Raid Progression is pretty poggers.

  3. Blizz won't learn. They haven't for years. Even with the mass exodus, the massive real life issues, nothing is going to change for WoW. If they were to take the lore serious and course correct, it won't be in the next expansion, or if it is, maybe in a patch. But not the main story. Nor will they fix combat or systems or new player experience or how to retain subscribers. Even with the 'council', they won't listen. I loved WoW, but I'm glad I cut ties. FFXIV is a great game, and yeah I don't play it regularly, but when I return, it's still inviting, still easy to get back into, and when new stuff drops, awesome, things to do! Plus I don't feel obligated to login – I'm playing SWTOR right now, and I feel obligated because of login rewards, which hit a bad trigger. I just want to log in and play the story, not worry about anything else. FFXIV is like an old friend you haven't seen in years, but within the first 5m, you feel like you've always been there. Other games are abusive in some ways – sure they're great to play with, have fun in, but there's still red flags that can either be ignored or only taken for so long before its time to go our separate ways.

  4. I did the Moogle event via Praetorium. I level alt jobs and gather poetics, so I semi-regularly run Praetorium/Castrum roulette. It took me like two weeks for the jacket, but at this point I also got 3 mounts on top of it.

  5. 6 months is a drought? i feel the need to laugh in city of heroes.(and cries mournfully in champions online) no mmo can keep up with content grinders, thats why you look to get into side activities like crafting, pvp, harassing mentors and the like. because ultimately mmos live and die on community interactions. It takes time to create content and the grinders will tear through it on launch day.

also, prae is good if you want to time cooking a pizza.

  6. The things FF14 does with all the various events, just seems more organic to the game as the months and seasons roll around in the game. While WoW has its own, I’m not sure you can compare both against each other as if players live for the seasonal events. They just seems like fun side story to engage in while living life in game and just taking time to participate for some fun.

  7. I wished he’d mentioned Deep Dungeons and Ultimates. To me they are optional content that kept a lot of people subscribed because we had free time. For me they were better reasons to stay subbed than seasonal events.

  8. I disagree with the blue mage thing being a 30 minutes then unsub. I'm sure some people did that yeah, but this event alone got more people to level blue mage than any blue mage content that came out before. I keep seeing more PFs of blue parties to get spells and even the raids for the mount. It exposed so many players to a job they were overlooking because the memes of "BLU KEKW". It would have been easy to nerf that by just removing turn 2 from the list but they didn't do that. And, not everyone did it the BLU way either. I know of people who still do prae because they want to and don't have the time to level BLU and get spells for it.

  9. Rebuttal to they are too busy to nerf blu tome event:

When Zadnor came out it broke duels and people can clear duels in under a minute. They legit just let people have fun.

Someone: Did you hear that people are absolutely destroying Turn 2 with BLU and farming massive quantities of tomestones in record time?
The entire dev team collectively: Shut up, I haven't slept for 4 days and I honestly don't give a shit.

  12. Mike is right, I have all my gear and weapons as far as I want to get them but havent been bored at all. I have been collecting Triple Triad, leveling up my mahjong (which I have grown to love actually), leveled up almost all my crafters and gatherers, and farmed lots of mounts. I have really enjoyed this time where I could focus on completionism

  13. Zepla makes a really good analogy. The seasonal events are like the icing on the cake, and most of us enjoy the cake and eat the icing when there's no cake left. Bellular wants to take our icing and put it on his cake but that won't help much if the cake itself is bad.
