  1. Honestly I wish they'd take a page from Neverwinter for the housing.
Have wards purchaseable for FC's with some customization. And let FC members purchase plots and build what ever size they can afford. Make it a real credit and Gil sink.
For solo players just have the same system we have now, but relocate FC's to FC wards. Let em shift the house to what ever plot in that ward they want.

  2. Fun fact: the article author used to write for Kotaku… which makes the article's "accuracy" somehow even less surprising.

EDIT: WOOWWW… She linked to HER OWN Kotaku article…

  3. Just my opinion on it, but no I don't think it is fair because of certain things specific to housing both FC and private. For one you have to have an FC house to have a workshop to do expeditions which you can make gil with. Same with gardening. You have to have a house to do it. Also it's an MMO, people want to have a place to hang out at the least. When someone buys up multiple plots it really does deprive players from these things. I have this problem on my server where someone decided to buy up 8 plots in order to make a make a bunch of venues.

  4. sigh I would have expected better from Bloomberg. Housing still remains a problem, but I believe that Island Sanctuary is a sign that they are working to solve it. Not because Island Sanctuary will become housing, but because the technology used for IS will be used to build a new housing system. It will be instanced but not by house, by neighborhood which is what the Ward system was supposed to do, but was not implemented correctly. The current wards are not truly instanced, which is why when one ward fills up, you can see effects in adjacent wards, which should not happen. The old code is too fragile to fix, so a new system will likely be implemented. Island Sanctuary is proof of concept for the new system I think.

  5. The Bloomberg article definitely a bit of a joke.

With that said, I think the people with 28 houses mentioned in the Kotaku article did nothing wrong.

    1) The article was written in 2017, right at the beginning of SB. The people who bought up 28 houses did it during HW on a server that was basically dead until SE did the free transfers bit.
    2) In FFXIV, the amount of gil someone makes is, in fact, a direct function of how much effort they put into making gil. No one starts 'rich'. There's also no system for inheritance. Every gil you have is a gil you earned through your own efforts, either by playing the market or socializing with people around you. Everyone has an equal opportunity to do whatever they want to try and earn gil. It's all about how you choose to focus your time and attention.
    3) Nothing was stolen from the people who went to Mateus during the free transfer period. The plots were never theirs to begin with. The plots had always been available to anyone who played on Mateus, but the people who cried about it didn't want to play over there until transfers were free. They could have made characters over there or bought a server transfer earlier, but they were more interested in staying put at the time. That was their decision, and it cost them the houses.

  6. the thing I genuinely don't understand is why the fuck we have an instanced island and they won't just make some kind of extension to stick a god damn house on it where you can choose the size and pay for upgrades if you want to make them later

  7. I still genuinely feel the people who abused the system to buy a ton of houses should have a limited amount of time to get their stuff out of the extra houses followed by said houses going back to the lottery offerings.

  8. Meanwhile, I'm just here wishing they put a balcony in apartments that let you use outdoor furnishings. Honestly though, I don't really get why there isn't an option to buy an instanced house for our island sanctuary or something. I'm not a game dev so I don't know why it's so difficult but I really don't care about seeing other players that aren't my friends or FC that I can directly invite if I want them to see my apartment/house.

  10. ROFL! well-connected. I've been trying for a house in FFXIV for more than a year and all I have is an apartment. Honestly, I'd be satisfied with my apartment if I had at least a balcony of outdoor space so I could cross-pollinate seeds, and could give alts access.

  11. Most articles have no idea what they're talking about, contain little facts or actual news, and are really just opinion pieces written by idiots. They all sleep very well publishing crap. I commend them for actually being employed.

  12. I think your take is wrong. I agree with how FFXIV actually handled it. Half the wards for FCs and the other half personal houses, and half those between those willing to put in the effort on the sign and those that want to do the lottery. The only thing that shouldn't be limited is apartments. The one draw back is stables and garden plots, which is an easy fix.
