  1. I beg to differ about the new starting in the next "arc" of the story of ffxiv. I cant remember which article it is but in the early days of promotion of endwalker yoshi-p was asked about this topic, about creating a new starting area for the new players beyond endwalker and starting fresh for the new expansion, yoshi-p's answer is that he wants for the player to experience the arr-endwalker arc so that new players know that ffxiv has a beginning and an ending story in the zodiark and hydaelyn saga. he didnt want new players to be thrusted to new expansions wherein they dont have any idea what it is about.

  2. I personally hope they don't do anything that treats new players as new adventurers right from 7.0, because that would mean they would have to write the story in a way that the characters we know today would be neutral enough for that to work, or just don't participate in the MSQ at all! Imagine the work it would be to write alternative dialogue for everything the scions say both for the WoL and the new adventurer…
I think they could go the route of having like a recap of everything that happened from ARR to EW when a new players starts that tells them just enough to go through the story without having to know every single detail? They already added the character log that you can read on what happened in the past with the characters we know, that can help new players that didn't go through everything themselves to know who everyone is. And then there's NG+ where everyone can go back and decide to play themselves if they're interested enough.

  3. Whatever the devs are planning, once I read those lines "another great change in this world" I got goosebumps. I immediately thought they are preparing some really huge changes when 7.0 drops and I am eager to know what it is. Yoshida's lines holds a very deep meaning for sure.

  4. I was thinking about this the other day! Threat escalation is a death knell for any plot – it's a finite path. I haven't played Endwalker yet myself, so I don't know what kind of vibe the MSQ ends with/is in, but I was thinking about how much I loved the ARR-to-HW events (in a painful way). We were completely kneecapped and had to flee Eorzea. I think it would be pretty cool if there was some reason or another that put us in that kind of situation again, and we were forced to flee to the New World. Imagine arriving in XIV's equivalent of the Americas and the wild west as an outlaw, on a quest to reclaim your freedom to be able to return home with a clear name. We could end up meeting new allies (perhaps the Scions can't follow us?) and have to adjust to a whole new landscape.
If you take away the WoL's status as world-renowned hero and the tools they're so comfortable with, and there's a whole bunch of ideas that open themselves up.
As much as I like the idea of visiting other Shards, I think there's still a LOT of places on the Source itself that need exploring. Like, I still want to see the New World, Meracydia and the lands Lalafells and Roegadyn came from.

  5. I always wished yoshi p could recapture that feeling he created before he shutdown 1.0. Not sure how he could capture that but watching dalamud fall, patch by patch getting closer until it broke through the atmosphere was such an incredible experience.

  6. Hmm…let see what we left hanging at the end of 6.2 and possibilities.

What if wasted darkness become unwasted and go active again?

What really is Golby's true motive?

    So no Meracydia for us?

And what about other dragon cousin?

  7. I feel that if they are focusing around solo players, it will take away the whole Free Company experience. WoW moved away from guilds and converted to solo players then the community turned Toxic. Hope this doesn't happen to FF14.

  8. I don't know what's going to happen, but everything in my being rejects the idea of having another calamity, especially just for graphical improvements. We don't need a world ending event to give our character a reason to go somewhere new. We ARE supposed to be an adventurer, after all.

  9. I've said this a hundred times. Making a new arc that doesn't rely on anything from 1.0 to 6.x would be idiotic. You'd have to have no character from the previous story and never have ANY references. Otherwise there will be hundreds of questions for new players. Plus you'd be telling them to "Buy a boost" to skip to level 90. Very dumb idea.

  10. FF14 making it so a player can start from A realm reborn OR from 7.0 with the ability to go back and play the original arc would be a great idea honestly. Every online iterattion of Phantasy Star does the same thing. Allowing to to choose from Episodes usually, or in the case of the latest game in the series, lets you choose from the Vanilla game and New Genesis versions of the game.

  11. I personally don't want a "Cataclysm" event. I would like a new story and starting point for new players, but it would be a shame if the new players could not experience older content. FFXIV's expansions are why it is critically acclaimed in the first place. If they could find a way to slit the time lines, and allow free travel between them I believe that would be best.

  12. I, for one, hope it's not another calamity. Not every new change needs to be from being the verge of destruction. ARR began with a calamity and the last two expansions have been about preventing them. I'm sure the team can look for more creative ways. And Yoshi-P has said he doesn't want to keep using the scale. The last thing we need is "The Shonen Problem," where scales/power ceiling constantly escalate it becomes boring

  13. i don’t think tje gonna reset everything. they‘ve done lot of change and streamline earlier expansion to help new players. makin a new star point for new players in 7.0 contradicts what they‘ve been doing. what i could see them doing is they gonna change the progression from vertical to horizontal when you hit lvl.99. new zones will be added. overworld content is going to be more meaningful instead of just a glorified levelling zone. gears will have more meaningful role and diversity.

  14. A Calamity (at least in terms of a "Rejoining") seems a bit far fetched now, given what we learn about the nature of them in the story. That problem has been dealt with. I feel like the "Great Change" is more particularly hinting at the events that we're involving ourselves in with 6.1 and 6.2. And that can go one of two ways — we finally find a way to establish a safe and permanent connection to the Shards/Reflections that allows us to travel between them easily or the Void is actually going to encroach upon Etheirys in some way due to You-Know-Who's machinations.

  15. Joshi P if by any chance you read this dont remove ARR HW SB SHB ENDWALKER even if im still or free trial and dont have the right to say anything about other expansions and have a plan to stay on F2p for some time i think that going Destiny 2 road will kill the game for many (even new players that did not play any FF so far) as it did for me in case of destiny

  16. I legit choked up when I saw Yoshi having his character talk to us with the message. So much of late with content have felt like a thank you letter to us the players. Making one feel so appreciated

  17. STORY SPOILER:

In 6.2 Y'Shtola talked about wanting to "fix" the 13th. In Shadowbringers Emet explained that the ascians accidently pushed the 13th too far into darkness so the rejoining never happened. Maybe as Y'Shtola goes about balancing the 13th's aether back out the 13th will be pushed back to that tipping point. Then, we have a rejoining on our hands.

  18. You said "share your thoughts" so here are my two cents. I find it hard to get emotionally invested in FFXIV lore/story after the terrible ending of Endwalker. Let's face it, folks, Endwalker ending was bad, rushed, and poorly written.

Endwalker ending in a nutshell: Spoiled brat with daddy issues who destroyed an entire civilization because life was too "mean". Cry me a river. Not to mention that a lot of characters were introduced way too late in the saga, and finally, there is time travel, and we all know that time travel = lazy endings. am I excited about the new story? Nah, Once bitten and all that…

  19. a time skip maybe? as the big change? I heard yoship isnt into that idea but it could allow a shift like from 1.0 to 2.0. The new npc of the event gives me the idea that new heros will arise and a lot may retire. maybe we visit the new world, or the continent to the south thats shrouded in mystery. Like the beginning of one piece when all those ships set out for adventure

  20. Well the world is returning to "pre Carbon" levels lol.., so that in of itself is gonna cause a lot of shit

    edit:
    I hate trimming the past..,
BnS did that to the extreme and killed all interest.

  21. I'm a sprout. I started a week ago. I am completely hooked on the MSQ and I'm still in ARR. I hope they don't shorten it/remove it or anything, because it's so much better than anything WoW offered me for 15 years.

  22. I can see why a lot of people would see a new starting point as a bad idea, and that people need to go through the story as is to get the best game experience. And I would largely agree that the game experience is better if people play it through from start to finish. However, of all the friends that I've tried to get into the game, less than a quarter make it through ARR. And about half of the ones who made it through ARR finished Heavensward. So while it is a good idea to get people to play through the whole game, it's quite daunting, and a lot of people aren't willing to spend months playing through the story just to "catch up."

I think it would be a good idea to set up a new starting off point. And once players finish the new new player experience, maybe have a way for them to go through the old content if they are interested in the old story. It could be NG+, but it would be cool if they had another way to do it that would let people gain xp on jobs. Perhaps some kind of shenanigans involving the CT or something. I think they could tie a lot of the mechanics and signals/icons that players will need to learn in story duties and other kind of new player scenarios, and probably do it in a way that's more clear and concise than how it is now.

Either way, it's an interesting idea to consider.

  23. One additional thing to keep in mind is that YoshiP has also shifted in his tone regarding a sort of Hall of the Novice expansion. He used to be all "Nah, we don't need it, we're not going to do it" but now he has actually been positive on it when the topic has been raised. An expansion of the tutorial system that teaches a lot of the mechanical stuff we've seen over the years in condensed form would go perfectly with a new starting point for the story

  25. I totally agree, there might some sort of "calamity" where something happen to our WoL that causing entering 7.0 will feel fresh if you start as a new player or something similar like legacy player in 2.0 if we are using our existing characters
also I think for our story to visiting the 13th shards is related to how we are going to visits all other shards easily, since apparently void can open they're gate anywhere they want even in the first

  26. Personally I don't think it'll end up with a new, "big bad," problem. No something a little more obtuse. Personally I think there needs to be some changes to starting areas, make open world ACTUALLY open world and not separated by zones. Also to encourage new people to give the game a chance said starting zones need to be less miniscule and more robust. One thing that usually dissuaded new players was that for about 10 levels you were stuck auto-attacking. I would make combos more baseline to make things interesting.

    SPOILER ALERT
At the very end of the Endwalker expansion even Emet Selch will refer to new areas YOU as the player haven't explored yet. He even tells you, "you think this will be the end of your journey?" If anything I take this the possibility of seeing new areas.

  27. I really don't think there is something to gain from letting new players skip all expansions to start with the newest. This game isn't as much about endgame as it is about the journey and story, so imo it would only harm the experience and I hope they never go for it. You also don't tell people to start with "The return of the king", because the story before is just so long and daunting.

  28. Honestly, I would love a "fresh" start somehow. I'm tired of the scions and the same old people that barely ever change… I'd love to meet new companions, new adventurers and new characters overall.

  29. I think you might be sort of on the right track, also not the first time i have heard the expanding on the trial account being mentioned, it would sort off make sense. It's also quite enjoyable reading the other theoriesideas in the comments, i am going to be looking forward to what it is going to end up being.
