The Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival opening keynote was home to a slew of announcements regarding the beloved MMORPG, as publisher Square Enix shared new content and features on the horizon. One of the biggest surprises came when Xbox head Phil Spencer walked on stage to announce that Final Fantasy 14 is coming to Xbox Series X/S.

Naoki Yoshida himself introduced Phil Spencer to a crowd of excited FF14 fans in Las Vegas, Nevada. Final Fantasy 14 will come to Xbox Series X/S, skipping out on last generation’s Xbox One. It’s slated to be released in spring 2024. Final Fantasy 14 had previously been exclusive to PlayStation and PC, and the new Xbox release will come with full cross-play support.

  1. This was a huge surprise to me too. I was listening to the stream while doing roulettes and then heard "Phil Spencer," immediately distracted me and I left the queue to watch this announcement. Some were upset in the stream (mainly due to Sony fans not liking Microsoft for some odd reason) but those in the community shut down that toxicity real fast. Expect a large crowd to welcome you all to the game during the open beta and official Spring launch

  2. SQUARE ENIX has been losing a great deal of money thanks to Sony locking up their AAA games to the PlayStation platform, Microsoft has played the gaming market very well, by purchasing major gaming companies, which made everyone realise, the xbox/game pass is a very important source of income. Sony tried to stop Microsoft but they had poor argument.

  3. Wow the new CEO of Square is really expanding the business, very good. The old CEO was more happy receiving "bonuses" to keep the content exclusive for Sony. Especially Online games should be cross-play and multi platform as they are dependent on many people play at the same time. Very happy to see Phil Spencer enabled cross-play and is getting more future titles to Xbox

  5. Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV? With an expanded free trial which you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and the award-winning Stormblood expansion up to level 70 for free with no restrictions on playtime and now available on xbox as well.

  6. I'm interested to see how this is implemented. My guess to why it hadn't been brought to console in the past was both financial (Sony) and technical. Microsoft tends to have strict requirements for games on Xbox fully supporting their Xbox Live services (achievements, chat, XGDK for Game Pass/Streaming) etc. Maybe Square rejected accepting some of these terms so negotiations fell apart for a while. If they now have all these features implemented that would be a pleasant surprise.
