WoW Refugee To FFXIV Lalafell – Dancer, Gunbreaker and Void Ark – Heavensward Part 5

WoW Refugee to FFXIV Lalafell:
After 15 years of World of Warcraft, I finally took the plunge to try FFXIV around 2 months ago and it was the best decision I’ve made. This game is absolutely incredible and I’m so glad I’ve become a WoW refugee and found a new home in FF14.

I’ve already completed an 18 part series through FF14 ARR and this is part 5 of the FFXIV Heavensward series. In this we go over the unfortunate series of events that lead to losing a bet and turning into a lalafell, trying the new lvl 60 jobs and going through the Void Ark – the new Heavensward alliance raid of FFXIV.

I really hope you’re still enjoying these video’s, I can post the full 3 tiers of the Void Ark on MiL if people want to see it. They’re also available on Twitch if you want to check them out or come watch more WoW Refugee antics live on Twitch:

  1. Been really enjoying this series so far. I've finally cracked and downloaded the free trial for my PS4 despite never having been an MMO kind of guy. (I tried ESO for a couple of weeks about 2 years ago and UO for about 3 days around 20 years ago). But there is something about this game that just looks so fun.

  2. I like how so many people put themselves in situations where they have to go a lalafel but its "out of their control".

I don't want to go lalafel but I have to. smh

we all know it the best race but no one wants to admit it to themselves. so they concoct and elaborate ruse that will eventually give them an excuse to do what they always wanted to do, deep down….play the cute race.

  3. Dancer is a great Job, its just fun to play if u are sick of melee jobs for a while and it has alot of utility to boot! As for looks, i play a female character so the clothes look alot better, and most of the ranged dps sets look great with it since u can share it between those classes.

I have't tried the Gunbreaker yet, but i'm sure its a blast since i have only heard positive things about it.
And the raids are just fun, especially the story of the HW one,the whole sky pirate thing somehow just fits.

And keep up the videos, i also try to watch your streams when i can and its alot of fun 🙂

  4. imo Gunbreaker is a tank that is at its peak in dungeons – it has more defensive cooldown abilities, so you can have them up more often, and awesome AOE abilities. Its cooldowns aren't as good as some of the others so it loses out a bit on trials/raids where you don't have the trash pulls to live through, but bigger damage spikes to mitigate. All classes are viable in all content though – skill always matters more than class choice 🙂

  5. Although I tend to stick to just one or two jobs for doing the MSQ, I have taken the time to level ALL the War/Magic jobs up to 70, with intent to get them all to 80 further down the line. I've found that there's something to like about ALL the jobs, and I love being able to switch between them when I find using a particular job starts to feel a little stale.

Don't be afraid to swap out and play something different for a while 🙂

  6. So I have a gnb at 80 with almost maxed out ilvl and I main tank extreme trials and savage raids on the regular. It's definitely useful, now it's not as pure tanky as say pld and drk but you can still take it into any content.

  7. I never considered dancer until I saw how cool it looks in action. Now it’s my main job. The rotation is relatively simple yet variable enough to keep it fun, and the freedom of mobility is unsurpassed. I love the dance partner concept as well as the other utility the job brings. The words beautiful, elegant, and graceful come to mind, which fits my aesthetic. And yeah, it looks way better on a slender race with long limbs than it does on a lala.

  8. I definitely hope you get to change back to your preferred character before tackling the Heavensward patch MSQ so you get to be fully immersed 🙂

Also happy to see someone else like the Heavensward alliance raids as much as I do! The edgy and creepy Mhach aesthetic is so cool. Can't remember what the raids revealed so here's a spoiler free condensed lore bomb about them: The Mhach were an ancient city-state who heavily tampered with the Void as is shown in the raids. They also had a war called the War of the Magi with city-states Amdapor and Nym (the latter being where the scholar job originates from). Their war caused the sixth umbral calamity which caused huge floods that wrecked Eorzea.

  9. Every single class is like, within a couple percentage points of each other in terms of balance. There's really barely any difference so no one really talks about is X better than Y.

  10. Heh, unfortunately I love the dancer aesthetic and style, so I can't help you there. I will say that the gameplay is very straightforward and fun though. After coming from Summoner and then Red Mage, I've joked that sometimes Dancer feels like playing on easy mode, with being able to move wherever and still attack and ALSO getting those dashes in. It's one of my faves for going into fights blind, because I can be very reactive, even to mechanics I'm not familiar with. It's a good time!

  11. If memory serves me well, people called it the 'Wiping City' largely because of Ozma. At the time we hadn't really been introduced to split group fights like that, leading to a lot of confusion. Also the mechanics hit a loooot harder (you depositing your meteor next to the other team as seen in the video would have probably resulted in a wipe for both groups). There's a lot of fights in the game that have been subsequently nerfed in later patches, such as the Steps of Faith dragon fight before Heavensward. It would take multiple group attempts to get a single clear in that place, resulting in people immediately quitting the instance over all over. It was grim.

Btw, if you like the Ozma fight, a much more challenging version shows up in Eureka, which is it's own completely unique and polarizing thing in the game, requiring a lot of time and grinding. You do get the awesome Ozma mount for completing it though.

  12. LOL… your transformation is complete. Mmuh-ha-ha-ha-ha! You really need to spend some time in Japan with a mission of understanding The Kawaii. If you don't embrace The Kawaii, you'll never get it.

  13. I love seeing some gambling in the game come through! In my circles we call 'Death Rolls' Devils Dice, and start at 666. If anyone plays on the Aether DC, look up PBM, and come gamble with me!

  14. Happy you did it. I love them, especially Dun Scaith 😀
Many "new players" are just doing Crystal Tower, and skipping all Alliance Raids from Heavenswards and on, which … sucks.
Also, you can see how much they got better with everything, since they were done with ARR and dealing all the problems of 1.0 version. It's just getting better, so do not drop your rates for old content xD it's still valid and cool! 😀

  15. I like both the aesthetics and playstyle of the dancer but the lore and the dances they show are just cringe. Especially when it comes to the part where they name them… and the names are german. I don't know if that would be changed if I switched my game language to german but I prefer english in general. And I'm a german native speaker so that just makes it totally awkward. The names are literally something out of an old cliche teenage-girl-superhero anime – not saying I don't like anime, I do, but you don't actually want to know the meaning.

  16. I want to play all the classes as well (and I got all of them above 50, quite a few higher already)
If you look out for it you will also find lots of people that have all jobs lvl 80 … that is just the beauty of FF XIV… though MSQ should come first (yes I finished mine, but I did get distracted leveling, not combat classes but gatherers and crafters xD)

  17. I get goosebumps the 1st time during the lifegate dps, the atmosphere, the gravity of the story and the MUSIC! I still get goosebumps everytime I do it to this day. Heck watching you do it had the same effect

  18. Gunbreakers are outstanding tanks. They do respectable damage for a tank, have very good mitigation and some strong offtank and raid utility. Easily my fave job. Also, BUSY… which is pretty fun.

  19. Play whatever Tank you like! They're all viable. I personally love GNB because of the aesthetic and the playstyle, and it has a lot of tools at hand, so no worries about being squishy.
