  1. The narrator is Emet-Selch! What does that possibly mean beyond him just being a very good narrator? No idea! You're now just as caught up on that as the rest of us.

  2. There are a trio of level 80 quests in the Crystarium – The Hero's Journey, One Step Closer, and A Bounty of Hunters – which are only unlocked in succession after you have completed all four role quests, completed the quest which unlocks after doing all four of them, the level 80 quest Safekeeping, and completed the extreme versions of the Heavensward trials Ravana, Bismarck, Sephiroth, Sophia, and Zurvan. Some have speculated that the end of this quest line suggests a possible destination of yours and some of your possible new companions after the end of Endwalker 6.0 and the Zodiark-Hydaelyn arc. It's hinted that two of your possible companions are the sundered souls of the same Ancient. You have to have at least one tank, one healer, one physical DPS, and one magical DPS each leveled to 80 to unlock it, though.

  3. Here is what I'm thinking, recall that Hydaelyn made Zodiark a moon bound. But in the Azim lore, Azim(our character Azem and represents the sun (same symbol on our Convocation Crystal)) became mortal of Nhaama's children (represents the Moon, as well as defines Hydaelyn). Also given the fact that Zodiark is the will of the planet yet the planet we are on is called Hydaelyn. From this I am inferring that we have been on the Moon this whole time, and the "Moon" we see is the original world that has been drained do to Hydaelyn being a Primal. Also that pause you did 6 minutes in, if you take a look at the logo without the text you can see what appears to be a giant hole, almost like something was removed. This is why I think the Darken Moon Zeno's mentioned is the world we are on since he was told everything by Eldibus before he left (Also if you re watch the scene from 5.0 Elidibus talks about the people being ignorant of the past while looking at planet, but kneels down and looks down as well when talking directly to Hydaelyn). This could also mean that the dreamer is Zodiark since Zenos was in an undisclosed location in an airship at the end of patch 5.2. Either way looking forward to Endwalker and trying out SMN as it's also my main since ARR.

  4. The music includes the themes from the prior expansions. The bit with Estenien is the HW theme, Fandango staring at the map is Stormblood, Y'shtola in the Forum is Shadowbringers.

  5. It doesn't bother me that Fandaniel has Asahi's face. The only difference between him and Yotsuyu is that he didn't get a sad backstory for everyone to use in order to justify his horrific actions.

  6. Urianger and Thancred were in Radz-at-Han, the major city for Thavnair in the Near East (and where dancers as a job originate).
From what we've seen of pre-release material, EW has very heavy FF4 references (going to the moon, one of the new dungeons, and I guess you could say the WoL switching from DRK to PLD like Cecil did hahaha). There's also some more FF8 references thrown in for good measure (when the moon turned red, I was personally heavily reminded of the Lunar Cry).

  7. I would love to see character deep-dives from you as that seems to be one of your strengths. I thought your shadowbringers review/impression was great because you really focused on character development and you brought up stuff that I either forgot or missed the first time. It would be interesting to see you apply that to other characters or talk about a character growth through the entire game

As for content to play, I would recommend the following in this order:
    – Alexander raids (if you havent done that already)
    – The Twinning Dungeon (read the data logs on the ground)
    – Scholasticate Quests (Best side-quest story in the game. Absolutely essential if you love Ishgard too)
    – The Sorrow of Werlyt Quests (Shadowbringer Trial quest-line)
    – Save the Queen – The Blades of Gunnhildr Quests (Awesome quest, but has a lot of prerequisitess and its a pretty big time investment. Worth it though)

  8. For your next steps, as pretty much everyone said, Omega raids are recommended by the writers, which kinda implies we'll be seeing some tie-ins with the dragon origins.

If you want to find out what happened to the Garlean legions that were away from the capital at the time of Zenos' insurrection, then the Bozja storyline tells that, BUT… you'll need to do the Ivalice raids first (24-man SB) and then the unlocking of the story will take a lot of time, which you might not have. Since Reapers and Sages will most likely utilize Bozja content to level up 71-80, the content will most likely not be deserted post EW launch, so you could catch up at a later time.

Finally, the Sorrows of Werlyt storyline (the Weapons trials) also shed light on some Garlean stories, specifically on the Wolf and his extended… family, so to speak. The entire thing is great, intense, and highly recommended. It's basically Evangelion FF-style.

  9. I would love an update video of you going over the characters you lerned more about or found friends in. Like the video where you were talking about that stuff in ARR 🙂

  10. I agree about that Sharlayan and Fourchenault stuff. I think that is going to be the plot twist, he's trying to keep his kids away from something that's going to go down in Sharlayan. They make a point in game to say that it was weird for them to send someone as important as him all that way just to say "no". He might still be a shit dad, but there's definitely more to that story.

  11. Dear players of FFXIV who have beaten the MSQ – Here's your checklist for the story content that you need to see before EW Launch (According to the Narrative Writer).

    – Omega Raids
    – Bojza + Rabanastre Raids
    – Weapon/Werylt Trials
    – Eureka (Takes the longest)

  12. You weren't mistaken, it was Emet's voice actor in the trailer. I expect him to pop up again in Endwalker, perhaps as a spirit entity who talks to you only. He was Azem's (your character) best friend.

  13. I've well and truly loves seeing you both get so engrossed with ffxiv. Knowing you were both so pvp focused in wow and then enjoying all the pve stuff and loving every minute of it all just makes me smile.
I couldn't play through ffxiv myself due to time and money restraints, so I'm getting the experience through your videos.

Thankyou to both Cob and Soph

  14. The sharlayan have access to some ancient tomes that essentially have the events of the future written out and so that have used that to survive calamities as they come.
The reason they're so convinced that theyre safe is it's not supposed to be the end of days, it's supposed to be the 8th umbral calamity. So they are expecting nothing more than a calamity, with black rose. So they most likely have preparations for that event.

However, over the story of ShB we changed the course of history so their information is no longer accurate or reliable. The next part is me guessing, rather than actual lore:

The telephoroi were never supposed to exist, nor the towers. Seeing this, sharlaya probably wanted to know why this event was happening despite it not being recorded. Which is why they sent out the twins father, when they normally just decline invitations and don't come.

  15. I'm really excited to visit Old Sharlayan! ^^

Did you ever do Coils of Bahamut? (Sorry, I ant remember 🙁 ) That is definitely something you could prioritize 🙂 Just running unsynced through for the story is definitely worth it. The Sorrow of Werlyt is also definitely worth it. Really nice sidestory (Starts in The Lochs). Those would definitely be my top suggestions after the Omega raids.

  16. Others have focused on what you should do, so I'm here to drop why Zenos got the Reaper class: It's of Garlean origin. It's Garlean farmers who were forced from their lands by other countries (back when Garlemald was weak and squishy because of no magic users), got sick of it all and went to retake their lands by making pacts with void sent.

  17. You’re the first person I’ve seen talk about the ship at the end. Maybe the ship at the end is from Sharlayan… maybe? If they have a secret weapon, with the Greek reference maybe the ship is the Argonaut or whatever that ship is called… since all the Ancient stuff has Greek Gods feel to it with Emett/Hades. That and the 12 gods seem like they’re probably the opposite to the Convocation of 14, the group that summoned Hydaelyn.

I am fully expecting Alisaie to go Reaper, for the luls.

  18. if you're looking for something you can whittle away and haven't tried yet, maybe Bozja/Save the Queen; any of the relic weapons its something you can do retroactively from ARR onwards. Not necessarily stream-content but def something for you and Sophie to try out together I think. The Bozja resistance weapon instances and raids are definitely a lot of fun with the critical engagements and the three large scale raids.

If you are levelling alt classes – go do the role quests (and subsequent questlines following that). Though as you are levelling, I would highly recommend doing the Warring Triad story as well before jumping into the follow-up role quests at level 80.

I'd like to ask what you found to be the most impactful MSQ moments (or side story moments) from ARR to ShB, and as players/writers, what are your perspectives/opinions on how the team have pulled off those memorable moments?

  19. Yay my xpac has come! o/ (Lalafell PLD main since 2.0)

One thing I love with this trailer is that there is a slight difference depending on the language you watch it in. The lips are synced to the language spoken.

The place where Thancred and Urianger are is Radz-at-Han, which will be the small city for the xpac, like Idyllshire/Rhalgar's Reach/Eulmore. Old Sharlayan is the big city for the xpac, like Ishgard/Kugane/Crystarium.

My thoughts on Zenos' plan is that he wants to absorb power from Zodiark and Hydaelyn like he did with Shinryuu so that he can have the best possible fight with us.

Part of me thinks that the twins' father disowned his kids so that a) they are not hindered by their name because he knows they'll be searching around stuff they're not allowed to anyway, b) he can avoid ramifications for their actions, or c) both. It does seem like a cop-out to me if they go that route, however, and I will still punch him in the knees if able.

  20. This is your game, and only you can figure out what provides you both with the most entertainmant, but I would suggest you try doing what you think you might not like. The jobs in this game are miraculously fun and interesting and ones that you may have written off, might be a new favorite. I have everything at 80 and only one or two would I consider to be on a slightly lesser level than others. The game offers so much, as you’ve seen, don’t hesitate to take a bite from everything to find out which one tastes best to you. I hope I can run a dungeon with you both some day. Keep enjoying yourself.

Borja and Eureka might be fun. With so little time less I don’t recommend going all-in on the resistance weapon, but that’s something to do as well.
Check out a house rave, or any of the craziness the community puts out there.
Go back through the zones and find all the “!+” quests. I don’t know if either of you played Nier Automata, but there’s a level 80 raid created by Yoko Taro in the game.
I don’t know what you may have done off stream, but there are a lot of “What to do before Endwalker videos out there to give you ideas.

  21. Your thoughts on their dad protecting them by disowning them fits with my theories. For example, what if he knows they will go against the forum and in doing so get them killed so he makes it clear they aren’t welcome so they skirt around the forum. Or the forum would get in their way so he’s pushing them to break in and get the information they need

  22. Definitely the Sorrow of Werlyt, which starts just outside Porta Pratoria in the Lochs, and kicks off with the Ruby Weapon.
Even without knowledge of Nier, the ShB 24 man raids are really fun, and an enjoyable disaster much of the time.
Ivalice 24 man raids (SB series) are quite good, starting off in Kugane near the marketplace, if I recall correctly.
You may also like popping your head into Zadnor or Eureka (ShB and SB relic zones/exp grind areas)

  23. Love your comments ❤️

    A few notes-

-the moon played a large part in FFIV so it was kind of a logical choice. The relic dark knight and paladin weapons are a nod to the main character Cecil. He starts out as a DRK and becomes a paladin part way through the game; the DRK set looks a LOT like Yoshitaka Amano’s design for Cecil. Likewise Meteor was a DRK in Shadowbringers and became a paladin for Endwalker.

-The quest The Sorrow of Werlyt is the quest you’re looking for. It leads to the Ruby, Emerald, and Diamond Weapon fights which are really fun but also has a fantastic story as well. Feelsbringer is not done with you. Also great raids with a good story is the nier raids. Basically do all the raids and primals if you can, it’s all great 😃

-For additional non-react videos I’d be interested in you and Sophie’s takes on how things like the multi-job systems feel for you after coming from WoW and having to play one class per toon. The Endwalker digital CE comes with earrings that give a 30% XP boost-between that and other buffs you get (rested, FC/squadron tickets, food) leveling another job is not difficult at all. Crafting/gathering are also both amazing if either of you are into that; everything you make is still relevant including being able to make VERY nice endgame gear!

-Get some rest, hydrate, and collect all three sets of tomes in preparation for EW!! Don’t worry about buying gear now, the new gear you’ll get in quest rewards should be more than enough to carry you through the expansion. If you want 80 gear you can get it through Eden tokens while capping tomes.

I love Sophie’s endscreen art, it’s so cute!!

  24. Others have made suggestions already, but I'd like to cover what kind of topics each of the questlines brings up, so you can kind of pick and choose based on what sounds most interesting.

    8-Man raids:
Coils of Bahamut (ARR) — Alisae investigating the details of what happened when her grandfather stopped Bahamut.
Alexander (HW) — Goblin politics, and the first hints of time travel to set the stage for Shadowbringers.
Omega (SB) — Mostly fanservice, but it digs into the ancient history of dragons as well.
Eden (ShB) — You did this one already

    24-Man raids:
Crystal Tower (ARR) — Done already
Void Ark and Mhach (HW) — Continuing the Void stuff from Crystal Tower, and history about the War of the Magi.
Ivalice (SB) — Some more history about what the Empire did in and around Othard, and a look at a different kind of primal.
Nier (ShB) — 99% fanservice, 1% looking at dwarven society in Kholusia.

    Trials:
    Primals (ARR) — Done already
Warring Triad (HW) — Primals, history of Meracydia, and some empire stuff on the side. This also digs into the Void a little, and Elidibus is involved.
Four Lords (SB) — Tataru and Soroban's Big Adventure. Includes some Othardian folklore.
Sorrow of Werlyt (ShB) — Revisiting Gaius and Ultima Weapon, plus a look at part of the Empire.

    Other sidequests:
Hildibrand (ARR) — Comedy from start to end.
The Paths we Walk (HW) — The epilogue to Heavensward, going back and revisiting some of the people you met along the way and seeing how things are going now.
Doman Restoration (SB) — Rebuilding Doma, and a look at the local culture. This has weekly quests to progress, so you won't be able to rush it.

There are the relic quests too, including Eureka and Bozja, but they're very very grindy and you likely won't be able to finish them before Endwalker comes out.

  25. I think the reason Alphinaud didn't do anything when Alisae was upset over the disowning was that he knew what their father intended, but hated the method, so he clenched his fist to reluctantly follow the plan. I believe having the surname causes a bureaucratic nightmare in Sharlayan. Them going as free agents keeps the dad in the Council as well, so he can work against them from the inside.

  26. I do think Zenos will become the new heart. But you're forgetting one minor detail. Zenos has shown that he can take over primals as he did with the powerfully summoned Shinryu. So it's likely Zenos will in some way take over Zodiark in much the same way.

I still have many questions I look forward to seeing answered. What happened to the heart of Hydalen? Who was the asian in Elidibus echo he admired for fighting for people that cut away just before the face was shown? And just who are we really? Lot of interesting stuff still ahead for sure.

  27. If we take what we were told as true back in 3.2, we were told by the Voice of the Mother (Minfilia) "Thus was I forced to banish Him unto the distant heavens, to forever remain apart. A moon bound" which would imply that Zodiark has been bound in or on the moon, it would kind of explain why Elidibus would return there so much considering what we learnt of him in 5.3
