  1. The great thing about implementation of FSR, even if it's 1.0, is that the modders commutiny are quite active on those scenarios and are even able to make an (almost) perfect mod that changes FSR 1.0 to FSR 3.0 and 3.2.
Kinda feel good about these changes and what will become of it.

  2. There's a few issues with statements that you made in this video. First of all, there isn't a single situation where FSR is better than DLSS if you have both options available as it pertains to quality. Secondly, you toss these two terms around in this video like they're almost interchangeable but you should have clearly mentioned that DLSS utilizes AI upscaling techniques while FSR is algorithmically generated only (you touched on the terms but you didn't specify that there was any sort of a difference in this regard). Of course, the BIGGEST thing that you left out is that these two technologies are not even on the same version in their implementation in FFXIV with DLSS being the 2.0 version while FSR is simply using the 1.0 version. There's a huge golf between FSR 1 and 2 as FSR 1 performs anti-aliasing BEFORE the upscaling which can lead to much poorer image quality if the anti-aliasing in the game is poor whereas FSR 2 performs temporal anti-aliasing after the upscaling which is closer to how DLSS 2.0 works minus the additional of machine learning tricks to improve imagine quality and stability further.

The reason why they likely went with FSR 1 is that it is able to work on almost any PC or console (it even works on the Nintendo Switch) whereas FSR 2 would require a slightly newer GPU to work properly. Because the PS4 is still supported along with fairly low end PCs, I'm sure the team wanted to ensure that the game could continue to run on these machines while maintaining a similar performance profile. It is also suspected that the team used FSR 1 for Final Fantasy 16's upscaling so with that game also seemingly using some variant of the FF14 engine I'm sure BD3 has learned a lot about how to implement it in ways that are not horrible to look at (which is also likely why they came up with new anti-aliasing methods to get away from using the incredibly outdated FXAA).

  3. So I tend to get confused with the tech talk, so would the dlss work on my nvidia geforce gtx 1070? My computer is just above min specs for dawntrail(its about 10 years old) but still worried if i can run the game ok or not.

  4. if dlss image quality bothers you, use dsr (or dldsr on rtx cards). I'm on 1440p. i set dlss to always on and i had the game upscale run at 3413 x 1920. Got better performace than native 1440, and the images were sharper too.

What is happening is the game is running at 1080p, then upscaling to 3413×1920. Then dldsr bring that down to 1440p. It's meant to negative the visual issues that come with dlss upscaling

  5. I mean this is a nice sentiment and all, but DLSS, the better of the two options, is only available on cards that 95% of which are already at the recommended spec anyways. While FSR is helpful, the benchmark enables it by default and many people are still struggling to run the game smoothly on the settings they want. Dawntrail is also only supporting FSR 1.0 which is notoriously bad compared to its later versions and other options from competing companies. XeSS isn't even anywhere to be found. And yes, the Benchmark isn't the final version of the game, and I doubt CBU3 is the type to forgo optimization just because of these upscaling tools like a lot of companies do now. That being said, if you got a subpar score on the benchmark, these tools aren't going to magically make the game run the same way it does now. If the benchmark was running choppy, it'll likely continue to be choppy at release.

Unfortunately, the 10-series cards aren't going to last forever. If you know you're under spec by a good bit and got performance you're not happy with on the benchmark, you should look into upgrading. You don't need a gigachad $5k PC to run the game well, but the potatos from 2014 definitely aren't up to snuff anymore.

  6. If you have a 10 series card you need to upgrade. It will run ok for a bit but you will have a problems in the future. DLSS and FSR will help for bit to but upgrading will be the safer option in the end.

  7. i used to get 40 fps even in standard laptop settings in extreme situations, now in dawntrail benchmark, even with fsr and resolution scaling i get like 15 =(

  8. I'm in a jam having a non-upgradable M1 iMac. I got Slightly Low with the benchmark using XIVonMac. I bought the Mac before I started playing FF14, so I was not expecting to be gaming on it. I decided to upgrade to a Windows PC.

  9. Honestly the FSR implementation (1.0) looks horrible, and DLSS looks broken, rendering some things as complete pixelated blobs or making effects look wrong. Both are not in a good shape at all. Native resolution is the way to go. Actually injecting DLAA is the BEST, but that's not natively supported and needs to be modded in with a tool.

I'll add: There's already a mod to replace DLSS with FSR2 or XESS for those that can't use it. Isn't perfect but better than FAR 1.0.

  10. I have an older video card, and would consider upgrading. the benchmark gave me "Very high" , but not 'extremely high' with a score of 12105. THink that is good enough to leave as is or should I jump for a better video card?
