There's a LOT of misconception about XIV that has existed for a long while, but seems to be melting away a little at a time. The way I see it, if WoW players want to come hop over and run some Savages, Ultimates or dungeon run, cool! Want to enjoy the story? Cool! Still think it's a "lame weeb game", cool! No one's forcing you to come over.
However… that last one… I think there's a sunk cost into having said "lulz weeb game" for so long that trying it is a bit… tough for those who have been ragging on it for a long while, which I also totally get. Here's the thing… no one cares what you have said in the past… just give it a try if you want to, and if not, all good.
😀 for me the only thing why i wont play final fantasy is the ART style is not my thing
I'm completely okay with WoW players not coming to FF. Sorry, but most raids I'm in with former WoW players? They ask for the least amount of help or advice (probably because of how WoW community is), but then make the most mistakes. How do I know these players came from WoW? Because the "mistakes" are typical conduct and play style in WoW LFR or LFG. One guy in a raid yesterday pulled a boss because the other 2 tanks said they were ready even though nobody else did – guess that's a typical LFR player or something? This same player asked another alliance group to kick their tank at the very start of the raid because the player didn't move as fast as he thought they should – no shit, they said "he must be afk – you should kick" within a few seconds of us starting to run. Then a few seconds later he says "oh, NVM he's here". What an idiot.
So WoW players – if you are going to come to this game? Throw that WoW attitude away and get a new one because that attitude is more why some of us left WoW than even the crappy story.
giving ff14 a second chance was the best thing i ever did been enjoying alot more than wow now
If given the option, WoW will be weeby. The difference is, FFXIV gives the player to be as weeby as they want with glamour system. Besides that, the story covers the topic of rape, slavery, betrayal, cannibalism, suicide, deception, honor killing, sacrifices, and etc. If you think that's weeby than there's something wrong with you.
The whole weeb graphics argument is so tired and frankly at this point kind of just smacks of bigotry with how fervently these people cry about it.
Too much copium =)
WoW players are more than welcome to jump over to Eorzea. But if y’all are just gonna sit here and talk shit about it without ever giving it a shot: stay miserable. More bunny girls for the rest of us.
I used to play both games when both games were good. Legion was an amazing expansion and it depresses the hell out of me that we will never experience that again.
Sorry i'm a wow play that played wow since it first came out. Im now playing XIV and i love it.
I have a few critiques of FF14. Classes (jobs) need something added to them to make them have some variability. Jobs are very well designed and fun, but Thats what I like about wows specs, play the same class in a different way. Also the PvP in ff14 was just left to.die lol. Sooooo much potential. They need to stop making pve based bgs, where you kill nodes. Make a bases mode. Cap the flag. Add a few maps for them. Also dueling anywhere besides cities, and world pvp toggle. You are part of Serpents with pvp and run into a play with maelstrom GC with pvp active yall can fight. Other than PvP FF14 does everything right. Well except also glamour, its very nice in how much detail/stuff you can augment/change, however, should be like WoW, have a vendor where you pay Gil to change outfit, prisms are stupid. Having a transmog currency is dumb.
I never really had any misconceptions about FF14, but i still highly dislike the game for various reasons, fundamentally in game's design. That and there are too many stuipid and silly things character and narrative-wise, and often flat out cringe-worthy, i cannot stand emotional, let alone ridiculously over-exaggerated emotional scenes, or scenes where people shed tears of happiness, or love…ugh. No, it's just cringe.
3:40 holy shit this gave me a migraine.
Trials have two difficulties: Normal (hard) and extreme. They stopped using the “hard” moniker after ARR bc it was just confusing. Normal gives no rewards and is for story. Extreme is challenging, rewards weapons, accessories, crafting mats, music and mounts.
8 man raids have two difficulties, normal and savage. Normal rewards tokens you can trade for armor and accessories with a vendor in that expansion’s endgame town. Savage is the endgame raid content comparable to mythic. Rewards gear, mounts, music, weapons, upgrade materials.
24 man raids are a catch up system that reward gear slightly better than 8 man normal gear. Their basic structure is similar to WoW raids and the difficulty is comparable to lfr/normal.
Ultimate is a completely different beast. Rewards a token you trade for a cool looking weapon. Ultimates are re-imaginings of previous trial/raid series. So Ultima Weapon Ultimate for example is a reimagining of ifrit, titan, Garuda and Ultima Weapon from the ARR story. Aside from sheer thematics, it’s completely disassociated from ARR. Unending Coil of Bahamut is a reimagining of the Coils of Bahamut raids. Aside from its thematics, there’s no actual association with Coils.
There is never going to be an ifrit savage (ifrit is a trial) and there’s no Alexander extreme (Alexander is a raid series). Extreme is the harder version of a trial, savage is the harder version of 8 man raids. Ultimates are completely separate from either.
Not WoW players, mmo players.
As a WoW refugee, I'm sooo happy I came over to FFXIV. I came over waiting a better story in my MMO, but I stayed for everything else. I would rather have The Golden Saucer over The Darkmoon Faire just as an example.
"Why WoW Players WON'T Play FFXIV!" We have the term "wow refugee" for a reason. It's wow players coming over here and starting playing ff14 and likeing or dislikeing it. They WILL play. So your tittle is click bait and obviously wrong or over generalized. I'm going to assume that's just to get people watching, and that the real tittle is(or should be) "Why some wow players don't like ff14 and never will: not just the story" or something similar.
2:33
Disciple of Magic – all magic damage + healers
Disciple of War – tanks + all melee + all ranged classes
Disciple of Hand – all crafters
Disciple of Land – all gatherers
😉
WTH is the weeb graphics in FFXIV? That honestly confuses me. FFXIV has a semi realistic art style. There is no overly large eyes to help convey emotion dominating the face styles. And that is the only thing I can think of that someone would outright say is weeby.
I know has a WoW semi caricature art style, where certain features are exaggerated. But I always figured part of the reason for it was due to the limitations of the graphics engine they were using.
But if that is the reason why they call FFXIV a weeb game, why don't they call ESO a weeb game? They also use a semi realistic art style (more in medieval peasantry and dirt) for their characters. And note I said semi realistic, cause they have other races outside of human. So if FFXIV is a weeb art style, so is ESO and anything else using a semi realistic art style.
Dude, where do you think most of the WoW players who quit WoW went? They went to FFXIV. Just sayin'.
I have played FF14 since 2.0. I did not really pay attention to the story. Skipped alot of cutscenes. I played a ton of content. Dabbled in solo content, pvp, raids, extreme raids, pve stuffs, quests and side quests, raised chocobos, built my own squadron, hung out with the FCs, did dungeons, tried most jobs, and all at my own pace. What I liked I did – what I didn't I tried and just left it. No biggie. The story is great and I've watched other ppl go thru it but didn't myself – still no biggie.
I think that mmo players forgot what gaming used to be and should be. Try something, if it's good then play it – if it's not then play something else.
Former wow player here.
I quit wow in patch 8.1. Just after the new raid at the time (I think Battle of Dazar'Alor?). I couldn't take the constant grind anymore. The story was trash. Artifact/Azerite Power grinding drove me crazy.
I kept an eye on the game, and it seemed to me like more and more players were feeling that same sense that "something" was wrong with WoW.
Then the Blizzard controversy happened, and the mass exodus began. And I constantly heard "Try FFXIV! try FFXIV!".
I checked out the trial, and I was honestly surprised, because I actually thought that FFXIV had died years ago (1.0). So I started looking into wth was going on with this game (the NoClip documentary and such) that I thought was long gone.
After being rather surprised at that whole 1.0 debacle, I said screw it, and went and got the trial…. and realised just how massive the trial was.
Things were slow. Slow but interesting. The things I disliked in wow wasn't in it. The things I DID like were in it! And things that had been tried but failed in wow, were running spectacularly here (things like Player Housing).
I was shocked. Alot of people say 2.0 is the weak point of 14, but even if that's true, its still bloody good (albeit the 2.x patches outstay their welcome. I know they were trimmed down in the past, but for sure they could be trimmed down further).
Anyways, onto 3.0, and i loved it. And then I hit the end of the story that I could.
So I bought into the game. And I've loved it since that day I started playing. I wish that i could have played it earlier in life, especially since I deleted my wow account after the coliform lawsuit came up lol!
For those saying there isn't hard fights in the game, there for sure are. Look at how some of the world first wow raiders have enjoyed, ACTUALLY ENJOYED figuring out the fights! They might be impossibly, take 300 pulls hard. The game is exceptionally balanced between tough but fair and fun.
The lore, the story, its so good! I actually jumped out of my seat when I saw the final boss for the twinning because I wasn't expecting it, I shocked, but it made complete sense!
There's something for everyone in this game.
I found an FC of aome really nice people who let me play with them, understanding that I'm mainly just playing casually, but that I want to go into fights unspoiled so I can figure it out. They've been great to me.
I personally had to take a break after finishing the EW 6.0 MSQ due to college, but I'm looking forward to getting back in over the summer, and jumping head first into extremes and maybe Savage content.
Even if you think the game might not be for you, give it a try anyways! The trial is so huge, it's not just a meme. There's so much game for free.
BUT I WILL ADD:
WoW players, if you're joining in, throw your knowledge away. This game has its own way of doing mechanics. It takes a little time to learn, but when you get to understand just what the devs were going for, and it clicks, it feels magnificent. Don't just dive in thinking you're going to thrash the boss immedietly. You're not. You'll get stomped for your hybris. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the game.
Ans though the battle system (GCD) might seem slow, very slow indeed, at first, but you'll be glad for it later because there are times where you'll need to think about what you want to do.
The biggest thing for me is the Duty roulette system, WoW seriously needs it, The fact I can actually play with my max level character with my friends just coming to the game and be rewarded for it aswell as boost the XP they earn in content is just a clever idea,
I just don't understand why WoW doesn't have something similar they have all these legacy raids that veteran players seem to absolutely go feral over but as a new player you don't get to experience it, My own personal take is Blizzard need to stop seeing World of Warcraft as a seasonal game and start incorporating expansions as legacy content and not just a play it and forget it. As a Final Fantasy player I still go back to the lvl 80 NieR raids, Not because I get rewards for it but simply because I find them fun.
As someone who does high end mythic plus (top 0.5%) the main reason people push is to see how far they can go. They want to optimize and get score and push leaderboard ranks. Also they want big numbers. Many people also love blowing up trash mob packs doing 300k dps.
In FF ultimates are doing successive mythic fights back to back to back to back. That is why most of their phases are just individual bosses. Many people who clear ultimates will say it is more of an endurance test especially because the further you go the less familiar you are with that part of the fight. For example you can’t practice golden bah in coils ult on repeat like you could practice mythic pain smith and only that fight. You need to do it all at once. If you took the individual fights they could be a savage tier but together they are more than that. I love that but very different from M+.
Imo most people would not push M+ if there was no score. Only thing close to this would be just parsing in FF with FFlogs. Which people still do. It is human nature to want to compare and to want to be better
I'm playing FFXIV and graphic things are my some of my issue, without Gshade preset I cannot enjoy it that much and luckily hearing they will remaster in the coming 7.0.
Its that everything unlocks or becomes available around progression of the main story.
I guarantee most of the people who still use the "weeb" game excuse couldn't even define what they mean by that. Just admit you don't want to leave an environment you know like the back of your hand for one in which you need to start over like a scrub. "I don't want to be that newbie again… I don't want to start from scratch, I don't want to have to ask for help… I don't want to learn." It's fine. That's a normal human concern. Just be honest with yourself.
The "weeb graphics" argument automatically makes me tune out pretty much anything else a person says after that. It's a western high fantasy RPG. There is nothing "weeb" or "anime" about the graphical style. It's a JRPG in story structure (to its benefit) but it's very much not beyond that. The game was made by a bunch of Japanese guys obsessed with dungeons and dragons ffs.
all cap, the WoW players who havent switched over already, dont care how good the competition is, they arent leaving WoW because they've been playing it for almost 20 years and nothing short of the game going offline is going to make them switch to something else.
Everything else is just cope excuses trying to knock the game they arent playing.
Unpopular opinion incoming: I like everything about FFXIV except the combat. I like killing stuff in WoW much more. It just feels better. Maybe it is the class I play or what, but the general combat in FFXIV just doesn't flow as well. I wish WoW had the systems that FFXIV had.
FFXIV have way more to offer than wow in my opinion, and tbh I was always looking for a game like this, with a main focus on being a RPG that you can experience alone, with friends or with random persons. And tbh, I wasn't a fan at all of the cartoon style WoW have in some aspects.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I love how FFXIV brings content with story, its not just "boom you reached lv 57, you've unlocked this and that and this dungeon". The fact that everything is gated behind quests made with such love and consideration into making the player feel immersed really made XIV way better than WoW for me.
Ok, then they won't.
XIV was fine without the wow refugee wave and it'll be fine with them or without.
The bigger XIV gets, the more Squenix will squeeze it by adding random bullshit. Already it's using XIV to fund failed projects like Lost Sphear, Balan Wonderworld, Babylon's Fall or who knows what (Forspoken looks bad IMO too). Since 2013, look at Square-Enix games and their results. Most or all of that was fully or partly funded from XIV money and most of it failed spectacularly. Soon they'll be making NFT's or some other bullshit.
Don't coerce people to come, if they like mmos they'll come to XIV maybe one day, if not, that's fine, they'll go somewhere else. This is the benefit of having a core playerbase, and keeping them happy and steadily growing the service.
I tried FFXIV a while back but its just not for me, i just don't like the visuals and for me visuals are a big deal. Maybe i will revisit once they do their graphical update
I tried FF14 shortly after leaving WoW but I just could not get into it. I’m not sure if I just didn’t put enough time into the game to reach the good part of the game, but I really felt overwhelmed by everything and I didn’t feel any connection to my character or the story that I played through
The first expansion is hard to get through. There is a lot of story into it. I have been told once you get passed all that, I gets better. I just had a very hard time getting there. I stopped playing it. I am just having more fun playing other stuff right now.
LoL WoW players saying FFXIV has weeb graphics while WoW itself has Saturday Morning Cartoon graphics
At this point if they're saying things like that, They're just looking for excuses not to play.
Weeb stuff you encounter in ffxiv:
1.Catgirls
2.Spell/flashy melee attack looks
3.The power of friendship
The rest is literally just western inspired high fantasy
Edit: small typo
Did that last person say "weeb lore"? lmmfao Damn, that copium addiction runs deep for whoever said that.
Dungeons
24man Alliance
Trials – Hard -> Extreme
8man Raids – Normal -> Savage
Ultimates
Each are essentially they own content, with only trials and 8man raids having a secondary harder difficulty.
I love the Alliance Raids! It’s my favorite part of the game!
I will make this simple of the difficulty levels.
Trials (Warring Triad and other boss fights) = Extreme (Rewards are weapons and mounts)
Raids (Coils and Alexander) = Savage (Rewards are gear, weapons and a mount from the final boss in the tier)
Ultimate Raids are unlocked from the 4th boss fight of a raid tier. There are currently 3 (2 in Stormblood and 1 in Shadowbringers) and a 4th coming in Patch 6.11. (Rewards from this are Weapons and a title)
Just to clear things up about content difficulty:
Trials – Normal/Extreme
Alliance Raid – One difficulty slightly harder than what normal mode raids or trials would be
8-man Raids – Normal/Savage
The order of difficulty would be Normal/Alliance/Extreme/Savage/Ultimate
Ultimates are their own thing where they take a combination of old 8-man raids or trials then redo, rework and then ramp them up to the hardest difficulty in new ways. For example, Ultimate Ultima uses garuda, ifrit, titan and ultima in one fight with new and harder mechanics.
There is also unreal trials where the devs take one old extreme trial and instead of scaling you down, the fight gets scaled up and balanced to the current max level. These get swapped in and out during different patches.
I've always felt it came down to two things. One, is the slower gameplay, focus more on skill over gear, and more strategy based combat isn't something they enjoy compared to the faster chaos, gear progression and various specs in WoW.
The other is just plain bias against anything people perceive as "weeby", which always makes me laugh as people can never really settle on a real explanation of what makes a game a "weeb" game outside of it being made in Japan.
cause alot of em will be banned for being toxic. you can say whatever you want in WoW and get away with it.
I really tried FF but after 100h I quit at the end of HW. And its basically because it's modern game design (easy as shit leveling) with old school leveling speed/class mechanics and just an overwhelming amount of content which I have to play through with this extremly boring gameplay. I felt like it would take me another 100h to get to the modern mechanics. For me the argument of enjoying the story by taking it slow did not work, because I want also fun gameplay. In MMOs I either like a challenging and fun slow leveling phase or a quick chore. Single player RPGs offer you different difficulties, but FF forces me through 200h story mode. Why can I not have both in MMOs, fun gameplay and good story telling? So SE make it either fun or quick, but don't let it be slow and boring. Give me a classic WoW difficulty in leveling and a better item progression and I play FF leveling for 400h. Or reduce the filler content from the old expansions so that I can play through the main elements of the story more quickly. I really think this is valid and fair criticism.
biggest complaint I hear about FF aside from the very long msq is the 2.5gcd. Now you will feel that GCD in the early game because you have so few skills but later you will be weaving ogcd's in and you will not feel it. You will not be sitting around idle waiting like when you play lancer in early game
