  1. Sony has announced a partnership with discord earlier the year. They plan on releasing… Something in 2022 which should negate the voicecomms issues.
Also, managed to change from mouse and keyboard to controller with about 2 weeks of practice. It is a learning curve but definitely doable

  2. I'm glad the stigma to console/controllers has been going away. I can remember back in Heavensward that there was an incorrect stereotype that because I played on PlayStation that I wasn't going to be good in the party because of the controller. Probably a good time to get this reminder out there now that we're getting such a massive influx of new players.

Also there's some stuff I even learned as shortcuts watching this even after watching! But a few other things. Most people just use the X button to target an enemy as opposed to the left and right d-pad. And removing buffs doesn't need a macro, if you tap the pad/select button you can cycle through various parts of the screens, get to your buffs, and hit the X to remove it. Though as you said, there's almost no reason to to this… except back in the day where you'd troll your healer by taking off stoneskin and then asking they why they didn't cast it 😛

  3. I personally cannot play on a mouse/keyboard. I can only use a gamepad. I can personally guarantee that you can play just as well, if not better, than someone on a keyboard as I've been raiding since ARR released and never suffered anything major.

  4. One of my oldest ingame friends is a console player and I have never seen anyone else be as quick about ressing people that die. So cross hotbar players can play the way just as good as anyone. It all comes down to muscle memory. Use it enough and you'll master it just as you may master kb+mouse.

  5. Great video! I play a mixture of controller and mouse on my pc due to carpal tunnel issues that tend to flare up more easily with just a keyboard/mouse setting for extended periods of time. I'll use the mouse for things I cant easily access as quickly as I'd like such as raises on people not in my own party, any sort of inventory sorting, or some things I have on a floating hotbar I don't use as much.
It's definitely nice to have so many accessibility options in games that people can adjust and choose to whatever works best for them.

  6. I've been playing XIV for a year now on PS4 and the cross hotbar with expanded double tap controls works great. Have done savage content and no one even notices I play with a controller.

  7. I think you were the first cc i found for help on the set up and it helped me out more than you know. I have my cross bar set to only appear when i hold triggers for muscle memory practice and to clear screen clutter. Default settings are a joke, ive literally changed so much of the UI and controller settings that it feels like im playing a lower graphic FFXV. Thank you so much.

  8. honestly the only thing i struggle on with controller is healing , more specifically, party targetting. If in an 8 man pt and you have to spot heal someone with a benediction or something it's possible they are several dpad clicks away before you've targeted them + using the heal itself. It's far from impossible, but im likely not going to be able to do it quick enough to double weave it like i might on keyboard. Who knows though, maybe I just need more practice!

  9. What I love about controller is melle jobs it just feels like you have to play on controller when you in the zone you don't even look at buttons you just doing rotation like you playing a fighting game. I also use double tab and hold hot bars always have fast access to 3 full hot bars

  10. as a HC FF14 raider who has cleared all 3 ultis, 4 savage tiers while they were relevant content (and more at min ilvl syncing back) I can't play on anything but the PS4 pad. And no, that's not because I play on ps4 or ps5, I play on PC.

And I main Astro, a job many believe is difficult on pad, although I think it is fairly easy to play on pad.

@5:25 you missed out on the most crucial option for targetting. That being holding R2 and then using L1 to cycle left and R1 to cycle right. This I find to be far smoother than using the dpad, inact, i've never used the dpad.

  11. Controller was overwhelming at first but man I fuking love it now. I can press any key without looking with 100 percent accuracy. I guarantee the number of people who can say that about their big ass keyboard is MUCH lower.

  12. I'm disabled meaning I have to play the game with my feet, therefore I physically can't play MMO games on a keyboard and mouse. FFXIV controller support is amazing and is the only reason I been able to even play the game. Thanks to the games amazing controller support I been able to play in content and I cleared multiple tiers of content (cleared the second tier of Eden and first tier of coil). I even Included FFXIV controller support on my dissertation where I discussed how disabled gamers use games to socialize with others using games. Whoever invented the system is a genius and I thank him for making FFXIV the first MMO I been able to play to my full ability!!!!

  13. Lol u forgot the main way to target enemys. With holding trigger and then use bumper to hard target switching. With dpad u do only soft targeting, that will only register the next spell or confirm enemy with X button (ps cobtroller) to select it as your hard target. Also with touchpad u cycle through ui and it will cycle to the buffs and u can click them off with X.

  14. You can also select enemies by pressing L1 or R1 while holding down L2/R2 to cycle enemies, this way you are still able to select enemies while using D-pad hotbar actions.

  15. Would have been nice if you actually explained how to do ground targeted AoE instead of saying use a macro. Macro placing earthly star isn't super recommended, at least all the time, esp. pre-pull when you might need to put it in a very specific location, 15 seconds before pull, where no one is currently because it'd pull the boss. Some other cases like pre-placing a soil somewhere to indicate where folks need to stack for a mechanic, but needs to be placed before anyone is actually there (UCOB has a couple times where this is useful, Heavensfall Trio for instance). Macro's also cannot be queued, so relying on them is bad practice in many situations

  17. Lack of hotbar space was problem in HW and early Stormblood, but since then many abilities were removed, or come as upgrade instead on its own. And additional "doubletap" crossbar(XHB) was added for less important abilities, so it doesnt occupy space on your main two.
As BLM, my main two crossbars are completely full, which makes me worried in expectations of Endwalker(i could probably free one or two slots), but im sure they will reduce/upgrade it again. Its just matter of organizing it to fill your needs in every situation. Its easy to build muscle memory once you settle on layout.
Gamepad is my preffered way of playing since beginning and as i said, besides quick target selection in big group of targets its equal to mouse/keyboard. Better in some cases, imo.

  18. Oh yes, you can definitively combine crossbar with normal bars, you can even click on your crossbar with mouse, which is usefull for lazy crafting or gathering(you dont have to hold gamepad in hands, just click with mouse while eating, like example). Thats another amazing thing on entire system, you arent locked to one control scheme exclusivelly.
