Why Final Fantasy XIV Isn't for me…

THIS IS NOT A REVIEW. This is a video about Why I QUIT Final Fantasy XIV. This goes over my experience playing the game for 2 months, my thoughts on the gameplay and the community at large. This is not a debate about whether or not the game is good. I personally don’t find it enjoyable, but 14 million people really like it, and thats fine! I’m glad they are having fun, just wasnt the game or the community for me. You made not of had the same experience, and that’s okay. However that doesn’t make my experience any less valid just because I don’t like your particular game of choice.

I’m glad that so many people enjoy this game. I personally just don’t find it appealing.

  1. "I couldn't care less" LOL

There will be comments im sure saying I don't have enough experience to make a video on said experience. That's the dumbest thing I've heard. I may not have sunk 200 hours into the game, but time is valuable. I don't need to spend dozens of hours on something to find out that the game isn't for me. So relax lol
A couple things I want to mention that I did not in the video. I am not saying that the Final Fantasy community is some kind of cult. I was simply making a comparison between groups that only focus on one certain area. The Final Fantasy community prides itself on not being toxic and being a welcoming place, as long as you fit the mold. At least that’s been my experience. If you enjoy this game, I’m genuinely happy for you. You may not have had the experience I did, and that’s great. But that doesn’t make my experience less valid just because I happen to not like your game. The game is clearly a good game for a lot of people. Just not for me, don’t make it personal just because someone doesn’t like the same things you do. That would make the entire world boring.

Also I only recorded footage/and used footage from when I was playing it a few months back. So I’m using out footage and I don’t have the game installed currently. Check the description for sources for my video.

  2. Are you playing WoW PVP ? I play WOW PVP the most since it's the only real rewarding pvp to play. I also like GW2 although I feel it's not rewarding to play. IMO

  3. It's "I couldn't care less". Saying "I could care less" means literally that, that you could care less, therefore implying that you do care, in this case about the opinion of other people about why you should play FFXIV.

  4. On the topic of criticizing FFXIV. I myself might be guilty of this because I try to make my channel focused on positivity so I mainly discuss what I like about the game rather than dwell too much on its shortcomings. That's just the mindset I had in mind for my channel. Nevertheless, there is merit to what you are saying. I do think, to an extent, that it's dangerous for a content creator to criticize FFXIV.

I also want to mention toxic casuals. They are easily the worst part of this community for me. There's a reason the "you don't pay my sub" meme exists. It didn't materialize out of thin air. There really do be toxic casuals with awful mindsets and I run into them more often than I'd like to.

I also want to offer a perspective on what you said at the 4min mark. I don't think liking anime is a prerequisite to enjoying FFXIV. I am someone who never watched anime in my life (besides a bit of Pokemon as a kid) nor have any interest in it. This probably doesn't come as a shocker but I just felt like mentioning it because it might seem like you have to be an anime lover to appreciate FFXIV just because there probably exists some overlap there but there's deffo people like me who can enjoy FFXIV without having any interest in anime.

  5. Don't let the weebs take you down man. You're allowed to have your own opinion and it's your right to share it. I agree with most of what you said. You said at the end of the video that nothing else mattered if you don't buy in. Some people may see that you never giving the game a real chance. You clearly tried to buy in, but ultimately couldn't. That's okay. Im glad you clarified that this isn't a review. I was worried at first because I know you only have like 24 hours in the game (per your post a few months ago). Keep it up!

  6. Think your more so saying authenticity etc. You will probably end up one of those people who when they are old hate all fantasy and scifi.

  7. You being a more PvP centric MMO player would definitely explain how you feel. For me, I love the stories, Savage Raiding, and world of the game. I’m also into the PvP and crafting but I’ve never been a huge PvP guy so I look at the new mode as a fun mini game when I’m bored. add-ons for parsing and aesthetic shading can be added you just have to not promote or talk about it in game/ parse shame folks. I think that’s fine. But yeah, if PvP is your main attraction then it makes sense that FFXIV would not be a game for you 😀

Another thing I wanna add is that the base game goes up to lvl 50, and the expansions are 10 levels each after that. So Heavensward is lvl cap 60, and so on for each. ARR was the relaunch of a failed game and though was successful at the time of relaunch, the low budget shows. The expansions are when the game truly becomes great with really good voice acting, gameplay, writing, just about everything improves significantly. But yeah, I’m sure you’ve heard this before haha. I’m into JRPG’s and a playful Nintendo kind of vibe so those were pluses for me that seem to be negatives for you. For me, I actually didn’t like SWOTOR very much when I played it, although I loved KOTOR when I played it years ago. Not sure what the disconnect was, but yeah. What SWOTOR is for you, FFXIV is for me in terms of a comfy place to have fun. Enjoy what you want and don’t take this kinda thing too serious, its just games at the end of the day.

  8. I've looked at FFXIV and just can't get into the anime thing. I like Wow ( a bit, they skew the LOTR universe too much for my taste), and I like SWTOR… I'm sure I could enjoy playing FFXIV if I wasn't looking at a squirrel butt or whatever.

Ignore the Final Fanbase, come back to the SWTOR side!

  9. So basically you really don't like MMORPGs which is fine. And probably do not like being forced to play with others which is also fine. As a person who's not into anime myself and also have never really enjoyed having to find parties Etc to play a game, The compelling part of final fantasy XIV for me is the characters and the well-written stories and some of the beautiful areas that have more realistic look than world of Warcraft which I played for years and loved very much. once I went over to ff14 at the behest of one of my now passed away son's (rip warrior of light), I couldn't go back to wow. I found the travel system way more frustrating than teleportation in final fantasy 14… The characters less detailed and more cartoony, the music I once enjoyed no longer as catchy because I'd been exposed to ffxiv…And although I did not have to do dungeons in world of Warcraft which honestly is the only negative I have with final fantasy XIV, as I can Solo in WoW., . I do enjoy seeing other people play the game that I love even to the point of enjoying watching them stream to see the reactions to the sweet story lines that many of us have spent a lot of tears and laughter on and that make the death of my beloved admiral Taylor seem like childs play. . I also like the games within the game of final fantasy XIV.. ocean fishing is a blast.. the Cac-Pot lottery system .. spearfishing… Decorating your home or apartment.. minion or Mount hunting.. dancing with strangers or family as in my case in Limsa lominsa. The entire thing is compelling and enjoyable and though there are a few things that don't live up to Wow like the glamor system.. it's not enough to have me going back to wow or leaving this game. I wish you all the best fighting games that you enjoy soloing in;) and if you find yourself committed to wow I totally get it.. You do you:)

  10. Wasted 2 years of my life playing this game, I didn’t even liked it, I just had friends to play with. Now those friends treat the game as their own life and I ain’t having any of that, so I left.

  11. I enjoyed this video, because I'm like the mirror example of it: I started out as a huge SWTOR fan and player (I still remember the "Normies" meme related to CE access to the upper level in the space station 😂), then eventually left when it wasn't doing it for me. Somehow, I found my way to FFXIV.

Play whatever is fun, bro. One size doesn't have to fit all in gaming, and everyone's going to have their preferences. There's no harm in that, and it should be that way. Toxicity is everywhere if you look hard enough, even in a game like FFXIV. You just ignore it and find whatever activity is for you, or move on to a different game–again, no harm in that.😁

  12. Yeah, see I don’t really care about PvP in MMOs at all lmao. Absolutely none of them are as good an experience as a team shooter or a fighting game, and if I wanted that experience I’d just go play those games. :/ So I just personally think its unfair to measure an MMO that way, when its the PvE and RP experiences that actually differentiate the genre.

  13. You mentioned your comment section trying to convince you to change your opinion on FFXIV. I am not here to do that but I would like to " Give my two cents."

FFXIV Is to myself one if not the best stories told over media of any kind. This game makes you feel things and that is not me being hyperbolic. I understand that A realm reborn is a slow start and can even drag but there is nothing like the end and entering Heaavensward.

This is not meant to be an insult, I truly feel sorry for people who don't get to experience this 800 hour Rpg. Or are to jaded to let a piece of media touch them like FFXIV can.

Again I reiterate this is not meant to pick a fight of insult.
