It’s true. While it might seem like there’s a length of New World lore because of the Blue Mage quest and Mamool’ja, in reality those tales are extremely self contained. There’s TONS of new places and characters we’re likely to meet that we’ve never heard about before and I for one am excited for this!

I'm really hyped for Dawntrail for exactly the reasons you cited.
I'm so excited to explore the New World and all the secrets that it holds ❤
I expect much. The story they wanted to tell is done, now this is all new. Same world, new areas, unknowns to run into. Let’s get it! This is adventuring!
I'm not completely sure that we won't set foot on Meracydia in Dawntrail. Vrtra and Azdaja's roars being responded to in the distance was there for a reason and we still haven't caught up with Tiamat after Pagl'than. Endwalker took us to Thavnair, the distant past and the moon. There is plenty of room to touch down on two continents in one expansion. If we don't, that's fine but I wouldn't be surprised if we do, even if it's only for a short time.
This video has made me uniquely hopeful and I wish to say thank you for that
Tural and the New world are all well and good, but with the introduction of those aether current making tools the ironworks made in conjunction with the aetheryte-less teleportation we used to get to Thavnir, I’m more exited to see some long awaited reunions between the scions and the 1st, mainly Ryne and Thancred.
I can't wait for Dawntrail. Look at Marvel and what they are doing, you want that for FFXIV? constant ridiculous world ending nonsense needing ever more increasing BS power to defeat? I know I don't. A new story needs to evolve and new characters need to be built upon and new food needs to be eaten by Graha and I cannot wait.
G'raha will be revealing his new job class: Gourmet!
As a long time FFxiv I would prefer going to San Andreas Seeing the WoL pal around with CJ would fill a massive plot hole.
honestly i feel like dawntrail is going to be more than anything a break from everything else that has happened (though also some important setup for the plot going forwards). It's been described multiple times in the fanfests as a "beach episode" sort of vibe and i feel like a calm-before-the-storm sort of expansion, while admittedly not the most exciting thing storywise (and im sure we'll hear people complaining about it on twitter), is important to help reset expectations/stakes going forwards. i feel like it may be helpful to kind of think of arr-endwalker as a full complete rpg game that has finally now ended, and dawntrail going forward as a seperate sequel game with the same characters set in the same world but with a new plot, exploring aspects the original wasn't able to explore.
Im getting the vibe that dawntrail is going to be like, 60-70% chill small story stuff and then its going to ramp up near the end and begin teasing the big new overarching antagonist/s with the ending/post-dawntrail story by planting some new lore revelations that will lead into the following expansion being the more heavily story focused one. I wouldn't be suprised if the lead up from dawntrail to the next expansion will be the last we end up seeing some of the beloved party members we've had since arr (especially those whose character arcs are all finished) in order to introduce some new characters into the mix and see off the ones we know and love on a more positive note.
Do you think Dawntrail will be a hodgepodge of elements from FFV and FFX/X-2?
Hope to see you in the new world scribe <3
I'm not only glad we're visiting a "blank slate" of story and lore, I'm even more glad if it's just Tural that we're visiting. Storytelling in Heavensward and Shadowbringers imo benefit a lot by focusing on a single place (and they still had a very nice variety in environments)
Stormblood was fine especially because Othard had great areas and a fresh look, Gyr Abania sadly underdelivered.
Endwalker areas felt much more like stuff that had to exist for plot and made us go everywhere, thus making each place we visited less interesting than what could have been
I really want to see Meracydia and what kind of story it brings.
I was not very interested in New World so I am keeping low expectations…. and that's maybe better 😀
For New World I wish to go for a slow journey, to spend as much time as possible in every new place and I hope all the zones will keep my interest and they won't fell just like a…. new kind of forest, new kind of terrain, new mountains, if you know what I mean 🙂
I didn’t care for Shadowbringers, but I’m still looking forward to Dawntrail
I hope Dawntrail has ToAU vibes
I am excited for New World. It has that… the cultural vibes are peak.
It's just hard to get excited for a story with no known stakes or major antagonistic force. I do think they could have done more to hook us into a new story, since we don't really know much about DT's yet. 😅 I like exploring new places with the Scions, but we've done this quite a few times with more stakes and antagonists around. Even ARR still had the Ascians and the Garlean Empire around to move the plot.
The flip side is we're open to big secrets and reveals. No one knew about Meteion or Ultma Thule before we got to that part of the game. I want some good surprises, and they need to establish new stakes and plot for the next few years.
Hope they pull it off. Just sucks to wait until then. 😅
I can't remember which FanFest it was, but a quote from the FF14 developers during said event comes to mind…
"Dawntrail is, in effect, the equivalent to a swimsuit episode in an anime series."
I'm paraphrasing, of course; but even with that in mind, I see Dawntrail as a breath of fresh air and a relatively "light-hearted" excursion in terms of story elements (no pun intended).
And I DOUBLY look forward to the expansion after Dawntrail. Because that's when things get intense and gritty again (my inner Darknight revels in the potential edge)!
I am excited for Dawntrail
and as for Meracydia, I have this feeling that they will make it into a 24 man Raid series. Same way we explored what was basically this worlds version of Ivalice/Dalmasca via the 24 mans in Stormblood, even tho it could have been a whole expansion in its own right considering the rich lore and culture it has thanks to being probably the one FF realm that has had the most installments take place in, to me Meracydia feels lke it will receive much the same treatment.
never thought about that. honestly it would be nice to see the "not scions" get a chance to have characters moments without * DESPAIR * hanging over every conversation.
that was something that i felt was missing from endwalker until the patch quests is there wasn't a whole lot of characters interacting with each other that wasn't plot mandated like in shadowbringers or even previous expacs. less moments of the twins being siblings just because they are siblings and not "they are being siblings and bonding in a moment of crisis". heartfelt and heartwarming but i would also like more scenes where alphinaud tries to pretend he wasn't just laughing at alisaie's clay pig.
endwalker had so much plot to resolve there wasn't a whole lot of moments for characters to be characters without PLOT being the driver of that interaction.
I keep an open mind for whatever we'd be doing next. Had we gone to Meracydia, I know some dragon fans I know would be excited to see what we could there, and maybe even meet these actual dragon people who revered Bahamut–and more to do with Vrtra's family. With that said, I'm genuinely curious and excited for our trip to FF South America and what kind of story they're going to tell with it!
I am extremely excited for the New World. I have always loved Aztec/Incan/Mayan/Olmec, basically anything to do with ancient Central and South American civilisations.😅
I know some people haven't loved post-Endwalker's story content, but I have a feeling they will down the line. These writers are brilliant at revisiting content (the surprise visitor in The Ocular proves that one).
The idea that the stories of the 1st and 13th may yet continue excites the hell out of me.😁
I trusted the writers to take me on a fantastic ride from ARR thru Endwalker and have never regretted it; I don’t want to be the guy who jumped off the train too early like some of the 1.0 people, only to regret not being there for the start of the next great story. This dev team has earned my trust.🙂
i am ready for dawntrail a nice vaction to the new world does sound great for next year
i'm incredibly excited for Dawntrail! not just for new environs and lore, but also because of the story and how it'll pan out. this 'contest' putting the Scions at odds makes me anxious, mostly because of the tight bond they all share. Found family is my fave trope, and the Scions fit that bill, and i just hope nothing shatters that family. Ik people love joking about 'Thancred's the dad, Y'shtola's the mom' etc, but if we look at it like that, the WoL is the heart, and i'm one of those poeple that sees that little bit of personality the story gives them. i'm just excited to see where it goes!
There was a bit of lore of the New World because when Stormblood introduced Blue Mage, Martyn reveals that Blue Magic was discovered by the Whalaqee, a Hyur tribe living in the New World. And the fact he has two Mamool Ja as assistants hinted that Mamool Ja came from the New World. I mean, that's all we know about Tural from a limited job that nobody plays because it's a grind, but I am eager to see if the Whalaqee where Martyn got Blue Magic from and the Lapis Valley which you had to finish in the Level 50 Blue Mage quest will be visited in this expansion. 😉
while i liked endwalker, it does feel rushed at some points especially if you're not doing the role quests for the final days, the garlemald>moon transition and elidibus suddenly remembering about elpis and sending us there (though this finally gets explored with pandaemonium) for example. But at the same time there are also points where it dragged (both loporrits sections and first thavnair visit) so they probably could've done better with the pacing even when it is indeed two expansions smashed into one just like stormblood. Not saying the pacing issues doesnt exist with shb as well tho since in 5.0 there are some sections that dragged a bit too long, but never rushed aside from maybe thancred death fakeout after ranjit and suddenly reappearing like nothing happened lol
I've been wanting to go to the new world ever since doing the blue mage quests. We get a lit of neat tidbits in the blue mage spell descriptions, and I want to see what they're like. A bit odd that the Whalaqee haven't been mentioned in a key note yet, but I've got a feeling they will be important to the old west zone.
I wanted to go to Merycydia
Honestly no. Exploring the wonky copy of ARR was low on my reasons I liked Shadowbringers. Endwalker's new areas filled me with more wonder cause I could kinda say oh so just like Limsa or what not. Dawntrail however will be the first time we don't have to mirror or fill in old gaps. Okay a few gaps but still hyped. But I'm a fellow that loved Shadowbringers but felt Endwalker and Heavensward beat it out.
I'm just excited for Dawntrail in general at this point the WoL is likely the most powerful being in the source. For several reasons, one being that we are the only person to have regained a shard of ourselves from the First after stopping the planned rejoining there. Not to mention our long list of accomplishments and the magical McGuffin' that is Azem's Crystal. We need a power reset of some kind, and the "Beach episode" could help relax and reset those stakes. Plus we've been told Krile is playing a bigger role and I'm always happy to see our popoto's get a chance to shine.
Hyped. Really can't wait.
A slim possibility:
One of the scenes displayed at the Lodon Fan Fest showed a lab or mechanical room. What if, at the end of Dawntrail allows the ability to go to another shard via technology rediscovered there? That would open the door to almost endless story arcs, expansions, and possibilities.
Honestly, I'm mostly excited for Fantasy Mesoamerica. Such an underutilized setting rich with so much culture to be inspired by
Is this not the same type of video as when Endwalker was supposed to come? Keep dreaming, don't make your hopes too high
I must be strange. While I enjoyed Shadowbringers, I really enjoyed the closing of threads and the reveals we had in Endwalker more. Yes, Dawntrail will be opening of many many new options, but we're going to understand very little in the end. In Endwalker, because it was the closing of things, well, not all was revealed, but we could revel in the reveals.
You have a point and its a completely new plot and subcontinent. Norvandt wasn't that dissimilar so unlike others yes I am REALLY looking forward to this expansion. Although to be fair I have been looking at WoW hardcore on occasion but that alone should be a red flag. When Classic WoW is more popular that old retail WoW, even with Dragonflight backing it, that tells me Blizzard isn't exactly putting their heart & soul like they used to back during TBC and even Cataclysm to a certain extent. So I'm excited for Dawntrail, x10000.🥰🥰🥰
I can't say I'm excited. My excitement largely died due to other circumstances, when I finally accepted that good roleplay no longer existed in the game and I would be perpetually homeless, so to speak.
So, excited, no. Curious and interested, yes.
I can't wait for the expansion that follows because that means we can have blue mage quests in the New World.
I'm praying that we get a fresh set of main protagonists, the scions are getting rather boring to me, and having to deal with them more even after DawnTrail would make the story worse in my eyes.
i disagree since Ishikawa isnt writting it so im keeping expectations low. though part of the reason i loved shadowbringers is base stormblood was so trash my expectations were in the basement
Not gonna lie, I was hoping that 7.0 was going to take place in Meracydia. But I'm just as, if not more excited to explore the lands of Tural! Maybe not so much about the area, but more so about what story the developers plan on taking the game in beyond the Hydaelyn/Zodiark arc. Where do we go from here? What objectives does the Warrior of light, the Scions, and other new comrades we meet along the way have to overcome? I'm less curious about the lands we get to explore, and more excited to learn what the next big story arc is going to be, that is what has me excited most about Dawntrail.
I mean.. yes, everything on point… but the same holds true then for Othard and Ilsabard. We knew about the New World, every Blue Mage knows about at least a little part of if. Its not some unheard of island somewhere in the South. We know as much about it as we did about any other place we would end up in. Whats positive, and what it has in common with ShB, is that all new zones will be in one place, and not disjointed as in SB or EW, where you hop from one zone to the other, completely disregarding the rest of the world inbetween. As for this expansion being a "blank slate"… well, lore- and storywise, of course it will be, simply because we will enter a new story arc. I do believe that DT will be everything you just described and more. Its just a shame, its still so far off… 😀
I am seriously looking forward to seeing what Dawntrail brings us. It should be wonderful to see what they build in the New World, the people and places.
