  1. When you're speaking of some side characters it's like you completely ignore the role quests and the story within them. Ishgard and the continuation of the Fury's religion. Fordola and her closing her past along with Arenvald and his resolve for the future.

  2. I don't really have much in terms of "ideas" or "wishes" for the present scions. I think it's cool that maybe the dads are gonna stir up some trouble for us in the future.. Thancred and Urianger are some shady ass mfs, so you know it's gonna be good chasing them around. Was never too big on Y'shtola, I thought she was alright but .. she always seemed like that foreign exchange student you meet at a family friend's house.. the kind that lounges all day in a black bikini drinking strawberry daiquiris and acting like she's too cool for you. Very specific image, but thats what I get from it. I don't really want her to be killed off persay, just maybe find a way to Runar and let her be happy?

I think my BIGGEST desire for the future of FFXIV, is we need better representation in the game for the other races. Like, can we get an actual relevant Roe in the story for once? One we don't immediately sunset the minute they walk through the door? Hrothgars? Important Hrothgars? Like it or not, I don't think Wuk is sticking around long. Its great Arenville is becoming an actual character in the story, surprisingly.. but is he going to become our resident Viera? I don't know. I know it sounds like checking boxes for inclusion purposes, but.. 4 Elezen in the team is a little too much, ya know? Like where's my boy Hoary Boulder? The game has a lot of diverse and interesting people to learn about, and they kind of just ignore most of it and use it for set dressing. It's kinda annoying sometimes.

  3. G'raha is my favorite of them all. He could talk to me about microwaves for 6 hours, and it would be the most inspiring shit I'd hear all year.
I love his exarch personality, and I also love his goofy cute little moments where he slips into that young boy attitude.
I do agree wholeheartedly on him taking on more of a leadership role within the scions, or well.. now group of friends, spiced up with little moments of young boy g'raha. There were aspects in EW where I didnt like that he came off as like his only purpose was worshipping the earth the WOL walks on.

  4. What you described about Thancred is the same path that Ranjit went down. So it might be interesting if he dealt with that, but it would also had to ignore the fact that he had indirectly dealt with it already and saw the outcome.

  5. Urianger: He will probably betray us at least one last time, and that time it could be more damaging than the ones so far. He could be quite nasty in Dawntrail, Thancred too while I think about it. I see two possible endgames for him, either he retire in some librarian job, or he could just kill himself like his master and two of his colleagues to save the world.

Thancred: there's no point having both Minfillia and Thancred dying within a few hours each other. Minfillia have been dooming kids to their death for about a hundred years, she finally resolved the dilemma with Ryne taking over, she needed her rest. Now, Thancred is holding the line while Ryne becomes strong and wise enough to make things work on her on in the First (and Gaia too). He either retire in some lively place, possibly on the Frist, or he die to give Ryne the opportunity to live on.

Estinien: I believe he still has stuff to do with the dragons, he probably have some dragon related thing to do in the New World, or something like that will come to him. I also think he may end up the champion of a third party in the succession fight, maybe even the warmonger who the others are trying to counter.

Y'shtola: I think, ultimately, she will settle in the Rak'tika Greatwood. She's working really hard to get back there. Unless Runar comes with her in Matoya's cave, that is. She'll probably lose a few more of her 9 lives before that, though.

Kryle: I always though she was the perfect replacement for Minfillia… She just do administrative stuff in the background, is strong with the echo and get abducted… Well, at least she has a proper job as summoner… and is scholar enough to keep everyone alive when their souls were in the First. We'll see if she get more action this time around.

G'raha Tia: The poor kid woke up in an apocalyptic hellscape, worked centuries to put everything in place for the master plan, gave up his body and freedom to live longer. After all this work, he deserve to just enjoy fanboying over the hero he sacrificed everything to save. The Exarch will come out every time his fantasy life is threatened though, to our entertainment. There may be other time travel / tower toying in store for him, but a few expansion further down. Can't wait to see him back in the First, wondering whether is should say "nice to meet you" or "long time no see" to Lyna.

Alisaie: She already lead the research to heal the enthralled, she even manage to save Tiamat, she could push the knowledge of the field even further ahead. Maybe turning voidsend into people again? I hope she will have a proper conversation with Halric at one point. She could take over Y'shtola and Urianger for the arcane research at one point, probably with G'raha.

Alphinaud: He will always be at the heart the world's politics. I think he will always be a unattached relation between head of states and commun people the world over. Making things happen, as for the Doman refugees and the Garlemald failed state. And quite possibly, between the Shards as well.

Arenvald and Fordola, I don't think anything will come from them until they make Arenvald more mobile. Such an antiquated wheelchair, can't they have him meet Cid and give him a hoover chair or something? Make him a machinist while you're at it. As for Fordola, I think she is now free of almost any restriction, after the EW healer job quest, she could be available to do some action. Although she is more linked to Gyr Abania and its future, I'm not sure how she would end up out of its border to help us out.

Ryne and Gaia, I see them taking a major part in the expansion where they will restore the 13th. Cylva and Urukalhai will probably be front and center as well. After that, will the move in the Source permanently? Or will they retire in the First to do their things offscreen…

Gosetsu, I think he will probably come back as our master in Geomancy, the expansion we will explore Hingashi proper (and not just the freeport of Kugane). Yugiri, I don't think they have much more for her, she's retired in Doma, like Lyse in retired in Gyr Abania. Her management of the refugees in Mor Dhona was her moment to shine, now she's back in the shadows as the shinobi she is.

Finally Erenville and Wuk Lamat… Erenville would be the more likely to become a Scion. He's worked the world over as a gleaner, he's good at gathering material as well a information, he would be a good replacement for Thancred actually. Kryle will be the poster child for the pictomancer job, will Erenville be the one for Viper? Or will he stay the omni-gatherer we have known so far? Wuk Lamat feels more like she will retire after the expansion and be our big name contact there.

  6. I think everyone completely misses the point of why Urianger lies, I've always seen it as him suffering from survivors guilt after moenbryda dies, and being so terrified of losing any of his other friends that he'd lie in an attempt to protect them, even if it wrongfully takes away their agency over the situation he's trying to protect them from in doing so.

I viewed his talk with you on the moon as being the point where his trust in you is stronger than his fear of losing you, and the talk with moenbryda's parents is him finally getting closure.

as a result, I think people are going to be disappointed in him in dawntrail, because I do think he will use deception like he has before, but I've always seen his real issue being that he's forcing decision making on the scions, while in dawntrail, I think they are going to treat getting the person they are representing to win as a competition among themselves, and he'll still use deception to get an edge over the other scions as part of that competition.

I think the context is extremely important and as a result won't view it as ignoring his character growth in endwalker, but I do think a lot of people will view it as ignoring his character growth, sadly.

  7. Urianger is great at subterfuge. He needs to be directly in the middle of the shenanigans to find out stuff and hide it from you, even if you don't see him. It need not be duplicity.

  8. this is a great video and I loved the 'casual chat' nature of it . always interesting to see opinion pieces and appreciate you guys taking the time to do longer form content like this!

For the next one, however, I do think you guys should refresh your memories. A few of the points you raised have actually been answered in game either through side quests or in the MSQ (Krile deals with her grandfather in Eureka, Thancred accepts Ryne is her own person in ShB MSQ, etc). I'd love to hear if your opinions changed after a refresher/full context gained!

  9. I personally would’ve liked if they benched all the scions after Endwalker. Have them do their stuff like the twins helping in Garlemald etc. and let the WoL go on a solo adventure for at least one expansion. Maybe let Estinien or Graha join but I think most scions would’ve been better if left alone for a while.

  10. Uriager is my favorite Scion and I would hate to see him go so I really hope he doesn't. Y'shtola actually feels like more of a McGuffin character than he does. I feel like anytime we need something done she inexplicably has the answer. Whenever she shows up in the story I know that she's going to have the right answer no matter what. On the other hand, Alisaie is super freaking annoying and she could piss right off but she kind of comes as a package deal with Alphinaud, who I like so I know she's not going anywhere. Krile is a close second so I'm really excited that we're getting lots of her in this expansion.

  11. Just a little thing about the rules of time travel, its actually really simple and easy to sum up. (and consistent)
Alexander time travel (HW and Elpis) = stable time loop
Alexander time travel + omega technology dimension hopping (SHB) = Diverging timeline.
The game does take effort to explain this, but the gaps in irl time between alexander, the twinning, and elpis are so big that its understandable to not put the pieces together.

  12. I know that the game treats the “older” Scions as being old but they’re barely breaking 30. They can’t take up senior advisory positions in the world yet imo. lol

  13. These comments have affirmed my fear for the future of FFXIV from a narrative perspective, which is that many of the scions have no room for growth but the community are so attached to them that they will likely stay in the story regardless, clinging on without much of a purpose.

Personally I would like to see some of them be cycled out for an expansion or retired from the story once their arc is complete. However if done right and the moment is earned, character deaths should not be off limits.

  14. I think they will do the same formula as One Piece. The first saga is more characters focused with the scions, then the second saga focus on the world and grander narrative. So I don't expecting much when it come to major development for each scions.

  15. I don't understand small subset of the fanbase who have an obsession with killing off characters. Have they even played any Final Fantasy games? This isn't GoT, this isn't AoT. There's always a core team who support each other through their trials and tribulations. Yes, characters can die through tragedy or sacrifice, but killing them off just because "they've been around too long" is astoundingly stupid. When I started playing ARR it was the found-family theme of the Scions that got me interested in the story. I can't imagine actively wishing for the best part of the game's story to be removed just for some emotional points.

  16. Gonna go against the grain in these comments and say, yes, some of the Scions need to get gone or die. Especially with so many characters on the bench that can and should be on the team. Personally I would have preferred a parting of ways for a while, but since Dawntrail seems to be doubling down it seems clear something drastic needs to happen to create an actual split. Also for god sakes age up the twins! The Wol went from like 18 to 40 and the twins went from 14 to 16.

  17. Fun fact. I've hated Estinien since arr. I thought he should've died during heavensward, and I hate that they keep trying to shoe horn him into every expansion since.
That being said, he did redeem himself in my eyes in endwalker, during the radz at han stuff.

  18. Not sure the insistence on having Urianger and/or Thancred retire/leave the Scions. They're not pushing 40+ and should become teachers/mentors of the next generation. They've both easily got 5-10 years of galivanting about the place in them. Considering time is annoying static in 14, they're going to leave it's because of plot be that some serious event or death.

  19. For thancred his good time to die has passed, so I think thr best way for him to have a legit reason to step away from being a scion is if he incurred a serious injury and was essentially forced to stop active duty. Something like Arenvald's disability, then he could maybe pass the torch onto either Ryne or Erenville, given his experience as a gleaner, he probably knows a thing or two about getting in and out of sticky situations, thereby fulfilling the espionage role of thancred and probably be a fighter, and promoting him to be a new scion.

Estinien I think may have more of a story in the DT patch MSQ IF they start setting up Mericydia as the following expansion. From there, I wouldn't mind if he retired there overseeing the dragons along with Tiamat.

  20. We already went through the “Minfilia and Ryne are different people arc” dude literally accepts that he truly lost Minfilia right after the Ranjit fight. Though he should’ve been the one to kill Ranjit, that’s my biggest criticism of that story arc. 😂
