  1. Maybe how it could work is with 7.0 release new jobs, but the previous jobs would be locked from 2.0 – 6.0 so if you wanted to play whitemage you'd need to go back in time to learn the old jobs and then you'd be starting from 0, of course they'd need to short the whole thing a lot, mainly focus on the important things and avoid every non critical quest.

They will need to make a new start point, that's 100% for sure, it's tough enough right now to get a new player go through ARR + HW + SB + ShB + EW just to get into the current narrative.

  2. My money says 7.0 is going to be an ARR-style thing. New characters can either start in 2.0 or 7.0. Those that start in 7.0 didn't save the world but become warriors of light (or some eqivalent) by halfway through the game. Like in Endwalker, there will be different scenes when a rookie meets Thancred for the first time as opposed to when a veteran runs into their old buddy. 7.0 will probably use a different client, with freshly built and optimized code, and the sudden MASSIVE drop in ambient aether can easily explain a level squish.

  3. What I am most worried about is people expecting the next expansion to top this one. First, that isn't a sustainable pace and secondly, EW hits so hard because of the years of build up. IF they do another multiple expansion arc we're back to the set up. The pieces must be placed on the board. It's gonna be a slower paced, world building phase. My concern is that people expecting continued emotional escalation will be disappointed and start calling "dead game" cause they don't understand that.

  4. Im gonna need them to completely rethink their content cycle in order for me to really want to continue with the game. ShadowBringers really left an extremely bad taste for me. The story was good and so was the Weapons storyline but thats about all I really liked. So far the Endwalker story was kinda just ShadowBringers again with a couple deviations and the new 90 dungeons really arent doing it for me (with the exception of The Dead Ends). I would try the raid but unfortunately im stuck at an ilvl that is too low and quite frankly i would rather light myself on fire instead of doing dailies or dungeon spams. I cant speak on the extremes for the same reason. Ilvl. Mind you ive been playing since 2.4ish so maybe im just burnt out on the game.

  5. For FFXIV to last another 10years they really do need to change stuff up gain. Like, I love the game's current systems, mechanics for the greater part of my time playing. But, the game has changed so so so much in the last 10years as is. I'd really like to see an Updated Subjob system added into XIV where we can use say something like those Quick Action(R2+R3 or L2+L3 if you're on Controller) dealios we got in Eureka for the Lost Spells, etc., to swap between Two chosen jobs on the fly. Or, even a Merit Point system being added into the game once level 99 is a thing, and we can move away from developing a Level Cap increasing system. Note, I understand both of these are highly unlikely to happen, but I wouldn't not be opposed to seeing this being introduced to the game

  6. This was such a fun conversation!!!

I agree in that right now with 7.0 is the opportune moment to create a setup that allows new players to integrate quicker and easier without having to play 4 expansions in length of content to be "current" or "endgame" or "caught up with my friends who've been playing x years". At some point the story length is going to get ridiculous. And its something that must be addressed.

As for the how? I liked a lot of the ideas presented by you two. I think the Phantasy Star template is an interesting one where we have Timeline A and then the new Timeline B. For current players who have beat Timeline A (Endwalker), at the start of 7.0 or Timeline B they are funneled into this "time skip" moment or something like how Louisoix sent the WoL into the future 5 years and everyone was memory wiped of the event. Not saying a memory wipe, but somehow create enough of a narrative gap for a transition where a new player and a longtime veteran can start the new story at the same point. Perhaps with some flavor text to hint to Timeline A or something.

Or the idea where new players come from a new city where the Scions have a base of operations and a small camp or something or they're somehow connected to the Scions, and they come to Eorzea somehow and hear "the legend of Alphinaud" or something. And because we're on this other continent with relation to the Scions new players aren't awkwardly meeting their "good old buddies" lol.

    All very interesting.

My hope is that the new roadmap plan mentions something about technical upgrades. The haunting "spaghetti code" has been a plague for 10-years. Lets not have it be a further hinderance for another 10-years or something silly. When are we bringing in new technology? When will the major engine updates happen so we can bring XIV up to the same or better flexibility of other MMOs. Because the talking point of "XIV looks old" is already starting to happen and SE will need to prioritize a facelift within the next few years.

  7. I really enjoy the discussions on possible future games/engine talk . I'm very curious what they will decide to do regarding a new engine/game. I'm not the type of person that will want to play on the same engine for 20 years . Things age and age shows the longer it goes . What would you guys like to see ?

  8. To be fair to the long story of FFXIV- there are characters you’re still learning interesting things about from level 35 to level 90. None of the characters seem to really die, because they are frequently referenced, brought back as cameos, and/or have new lore attached to them.

  9. Im expecting not as long as a Msq moving foward may e stories overarching exansion to expansion with alot of patch of the week probelms leading up to a climax kinda like any tv show like you have the over arching threat like a main villian patch to patch is like a henchmen or problem or filler, we even have the option to go back in time to help the ancients avert thier end of days along with all the shards time skip reincarntaions of milf fillia and other characters that died off our friend stalker could come back to stalk us for a trail where what happened to hilderbrand ???? i ned a No2Type B leggings perminant buff with having to use the glam item. i hope it doesnt go the corprate route like assassins creed did and just do things for money i can deal with understand the story not being as good cause how an you top this expansion idk but what all was saying about NFT and loot boxes was scaring me i pay my sub and dont ask questions i hardly play any ther games cause i dont have time this commmunity is my social life pretty much i like it the way it is this is my only mmo experience so i have to go by what you said wow devolved into i would rather them shut the servers down for good then go that route.

I have a lot of questions with the end of hydaelyn. Are we the warrior of light anymore? Yoshi-P has intimated that we are not. And with hydaelyn dead, we have likely lost the blessing of light. So can we still fight primals in other lands such as meracydia? Do we even have the echo. Its something that has been shown to be attainable artificially but its kind of assumed that the echo is part of the blessing of light. so do we need to reattain this power?.

onto more meta topics. I strongly feel they need to give us a starting off point for new players. It is completely unreasonable to ask new players to go through 400 hours of narrative content to get to their friends, and it is certainly unreasonable to encourage them to buy a boost, especially given the vitriol the FF playerbase has toward this practice. Its the best thing for the health of the game long term. Of course new players should be given the option as to what storyline they want to start at, but there should be a clear warning that it is a very long journey.

I would also like to see the team take more risks with quest design. Its one of the worst parts of the game.

  11. I honestly don't know what to expect. But, according to the msq, my character is only 8 times rejoined. I want to know what it would be like to be fully rejoined and made whole. Perfect opportunity for a lvl reset and a new progression system.

  12. Most of my fun ideas probably would put me in a minority, since it yoinks many from FFXI. Like city sieges, or garrison attacks, or heck DYNAMIS-esk raid (like the crystal exarch's source timeline)

  13. There might be threads already in the game. After A Bounty of Hunters in SHB you look into the void and it's hinted the 13th can be restored. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if we go there in the future. Maybe not 7.0, but eventually

  14. So listening to Brian made me think of an idea for a possible "starter zone" for new players to learn the game's basics in 7.0.

New players could start on a reflction on which the balance has been broken by the Ascians. Their character would play in a way similar to how we play as NPCs, with a toolkit specific to the job selected at character creation, to help gettimg a taste of how it works.

They would get to help people out, fight monsters and learn the basic game mechanics, UI stuff and inventory management. As the player progress, things keeps getting worse until reaching the breaking point where the rejoining occurs and the player's soul merges with the WoL on the source as the 7th umbral calamity unfolds. From there you could opt to either have a recap of the ARR – EW saga and dive straight into saga #2, or to start from the very beginning.

I highly doubt they would set up something like this, but I feel it would be an interestimg way of setting up.

  15. I think once the scions lose their importance as characters within the narrative, it could be a great time to drop new players in while regarding the acts of more veteran players who lived that story with those people as legendary within a "story so far" type narrative. "Once there was a group, they killed the myriad gods of this land to protect those who didn't share their immunity while aiding those in need with no regard for their own safety."

  16. The concept of Zodiark wasn't a bad plan, though it was the solution for a problem they could not identify the source of. What WAS the problem, was the Ancients being deluded they could reclaim their impossible Utopian dream, and instead of trying to work towards it with their own hands, they rather give up their lives to reach iI. Zodiark, ultimately would have led to the destruction of all life on Etherys, not because of the power Zodiark commanded, but because the people where willing to give up their lives so easily.

  17. As I see it, SE should upgrade the engine of the game and I hope also a rework of the combat system (Global CD's on spells). The new chapter FF is going into should feel fresh and up to date for the next 10y to stay ahead and keep innovating the game.

  18. Having a great time progging the raids. Doing raids blind without something shouting in your ear and figuring it out yourself as a group is so fun. Can't wait til 6.1 for the alliance raids and the Island Sanctuary. I'm curious about the roadmap. I'd like Square to actually commit some serious resources. I honestly couldn't think about what Yoshi-P could do with a giant budget.

  19. Since the mother crystal/hydeion is gone and we are no longer the warrior of light, how do we justify our characters strength in future content since we no longer have the blessing of light?

  20. Adding meaningful zones are much harder than useless zones just for the sake of adding something. That a thing that can’t happen in XIV as they need to write the story for the zone and make it so that it’s actually working in the frame of the expansion alone with the MSQ. Otherwise, they would make it troubling to understand if you revisit back to the zone itself

  21. Honestly if they wanted to fix the main problem with level skippers, all they would have to do is make a mandatory hall of the novice for the class upon use before they can play with other people.
People who know the classes will breeze through it, new players will learn or get stuck until they read it and learn. There's honestly nothing worse than someone who doesn't know any of their actions in level 80+ content.

  22. That's just a shitty WoW attitude to MMOs (must be at end game). As an existing player past story isn't a barrier (obviously) and alts you can just have a boost/skip. As for new players, why would you want a game with less content? If I was a new player coming into FF14 in 9.X I'd want to have a thousand hours of content sitting there waiting for me. Why the everliving hell would you want to deliberately not experience the Shadowbringers and Endwalker payoffs.

The only real barrier is playing with friends but isn't that what alts are for?

  23. I haven't started Endwalker, almost done Shadowbringers… the story of Shadowbringers is so amazing. Pulling in a lot of different narrative threads and weaving a cohesive and beautiful story! I am excited for Endwalker.

I am curious about the future. One how many players are able to "fit" on the data center. ie theoretically, how large would the game community grow with one data center per region?

Also, finishing at lvl 90 doesn't make sense, but I can't see another expansion before a "new" XIV Story arch

But they probably will do a Destiny that after next expansion we start as a new character or time jump.

I would love 7.0 to be a new engine, new character, etc.

  24. I think adding an additional zone or two at some point during the patches would be really cool. Getting to a new zone is one of my favorite parts of the game in general, would be nice to get that at some point during the patch cycle. Also a great way to add new materials for gathering, and could have some optional lore in sidequests pertaining to whatever happens in the patch MSQ.
