What is the BEST FFXIV JOB for a WoW Hunter refugee in FF14? | WoW veteran plays FFXIV

WoW refugee looking for a FFXIV pet class, or simply want to play Final Fantasy 14 similarly to your WoW Hunter? FFXIV Pet class situation is not as straightforward as it might have been in World of Warcraft, but fear not, as I have some solid suggestions for you here!

I’ll talk to you about each WoW Hunter spec – Marksman, Beastmaster, and Survival – indicating what FFXIV job would be the closest in playstyle to your favourite WoW class and spec.

Massive Disclaimer – I clearly point out that FFXIV is very different from WoW, and the games should not be compared 1:1, so you won’t find an exact match to your WoW Hunter class. Also, this is not pretending to be an extensive FFXIV job guide.

But FFXIV classes or jobs are somewhat similar and should satisfy the interests and needs of a FFXIV beginner coming from WoW or some other MMORPG.

  1. So glad seeing you doing your part for both communities as well as stepping your foot into new jobs and playstyles that the game has to offer. Bard to me was really fun especially in end game raids because you have to "Always be playing a song" for the whole fight as well as juggling between proc skills, and personal buffs. Summoner has a 2-minute rotation soooooo it can be a bit overwhelming if you're not used to using it in 8-man boss raids XD

  2. The summoner in ARR and Heavensward used to have a ranged dps, tank and a melee dps pet, but it used to be a source of headache as even with enormous buffs those pets still ate AOE and died fairly early in boss fights or just made things work in a way the designers didn´t like. As you can see now, that went away and pets with the exception of the chocobo work just like a sattelite in gradius, the only interaction they provide is to add damage (or heal in case of scholars). I would suggest machinists for hunters, but sadly you need to reach heavensward before being able to create one.

  3. Great video Gyro, I should mention that personally the closest to hunter that I've found is the Machinist, although you have to start the Heavensward expansion to get the job (it's in the free trial still). It's basically a MM hunter with extra aoe and mobility and you can summon a freaking robot to fight for you, also flame throwers! Another benefit is that is shares gear with Archer/bard so you can save a bit if you level archer first then eventually go machinist. I surely miss not having pets in the game tho.

  4. Machinist is a very mobile and enjoyable ranged. At lvl 80 you also summon a badass robot to fight for you for a limited time as long as you have 50/100 of your resource.

Anyway great videos bro. I am glad you enjoy the game yourself and it's awesome that you wanna try to help your fellow migrants. You are all most welcome!

  5. I loved my BM hunter in WoW so I started an archer. I'm a bard now and I really enjoy it! I just got my summon able chocobo, I just have to finds some greens so I can keep him up all the time. LOL Great video as always!

  6. Very nice video. There isn't enough info out there for a WoW refugee to decide what they may like. Just from 1 job in FFxiv can be split between like 3 others in WoW, with some even over-lapping. Not saying it's better but in ffxiv you will have to decide what Job best fits your spec.

  7. Keep up the great videos and I hope you enjoy the ARR content at whatever pace you enjoy! One thing that I have really been curious about however is a WoW veterans opinion on Blue Mage – its a limited class/Job and can't be used for "current" content, PvP, or auto queue (Duty Finder) stuff, but it seems like a pretty unique class. This is unlockable after you complete the first 2 or 3 "level 50" MSQ's if it seems like something you want to explore!

  8. How on Earth can anyone play FF over WoW is beyond me. I played FF extensively for 2 years and the Korean style animations, armour and overall general feel is awful.
Unless you are a girl this game is NOT for you. Very female and feminine in so many ways. Never felt right playing it.
Its just not meant for the western market. Baffling so many play it.
Until WoW shuts down it will always be the number 1.

  9. As a rank 11 classic pvp survival marks hunter — tank spec chocobo + machinist feels amazing and only thing I hate is you can't tell your bird to attack

  10. I played hunter in WoW up until the start of BFA, and I loved hunter. Especially as a gnome, where your pets are big enough to be your mounts.

So quick equivalency up to there:
Marksman Hunter = Machinist or Bard + Chocobo pet set to DPS
Beastmaster Hunter = Machinist or Bard + Chocobo pet set to Tank
Survival Hunter (melee) = Any Melee Class + Chocobo pet set to DPS.

There really wasn't a "Healing" hunter in WoW, though a beastmaster hunter who had spirit pets could use their healing power to help survive a bit.

But what I loved was the Chocobo Pet's versatility. At any time you could set it to heal, to DPS, or to tank, and that included even for healing classes in solo content in open world. White Mages, Scholars and Astrologians got low DPS, so you can have your chocobo pet set to DPS or tank to attack your enemy, while you keep them healed and do damage, or you could yourself focus on doing damage, while your chocobo pet healed you.

As a Scholar and Summoner you could do double pet duty, and your healing fairy would be great at keeping your chocobo tank up without you doing anything to heal it. Summoners could use their chocobo to tank, while their DPS pets charge in to assist in the attack, again doing double duty pets.

I got my Chocobo to rank 20, and it was a LONG journey, but so rewarding. You really do feel a strong kinship with your chocobo, you raised it, you can change its plumage colours, put fancy gear on them (for appearance) and you ride them into battle. You looked after it when it was hurt, and it protects you.
