So Deebee, game is very story rich. A Realm Reborn is the weak point but it's gsmeplay and story are still alright enough to go on. The story us actually quite long. You won't have to grind out side quests and the quests themselves tend to be short and to the point. You won't be wandering for 2 hours trying to collect 15 items and killing a horde of mobs. Bear with the story and you'll be rewarded. Heavensward beyond is really good. Game only gets more challenging around middle to late Stormblood to Shadowbringers though. Good for you to learn how to play though. I'd nab a keyboard and mouse, makes things much easier.
You forgot to watch Patch 5.1 trailer
if you're gonna play, you need to stick with one platform. common sense dictates if you buy on ps5 you'd stay on ps5, but PC follows that same logic, even though it doesnt need to, for no reason other than greed. if you buy the game on steam, all updates and expansions only work on the steam version also. if you buy the base game from the square enix store and an expansion from steam, get ready to buy the missing component for a second time because they're not compatible.
A few tips on the trailers:
– "Cinematic Teaser" trailers can be skipped, you get the full one later.
– "Launch Trailer" is story, "Cinematic Trailer" is the HQ CGI.
– Save the patch trailers for when you play.
I joined at 2.0 on PS3, then upgraded to PS4 for 3.0 (Dante Tyndalus, Tonberry). Haven't played since 5.5, I'm waiting for 6.5 and upgrading to PS5 beforehand. Looking forward to returning and jumping over to the Aussie servers when I do.
You could play from the beginning to the end of the current MSQ without grinding or making friends (but I bet you will), and make a solid LP of it. Maybe get a setup guru to help with UI, controller mapping and the bloody online storefront.
I have done everything in FF14 up to this point, playing it pretty much all the time. I enjoyed your content allot and really love to see you join us in Eorzea! I hope when you will, you'd pick the server Spriggan (on the EU servers) that's where we're at 0/
I'd love to help out on your adventure if I am available on the dates and times you'd be streamer 💪
That'd be awesome 0/ (but watching you play to it be cool too ofcourse :p )
About Let's Playing FFXIV and the possible grinding: As you play the Story you should always be the Level that you need to be. If you really want to grind, it is honestly quite easy if you play the Dungeons apropriate to your level.
Veteran FF14 player on Leviathan here. You can do the story only as much as you want (mained Ninja to level 90 while doing almost exclusivelly the MSQs) and, if you take your time, it can take up to 3 months to actually complete one of the expansions (excluding Endwalker that took me around a month). You can actually play the trial up to level 60 and the end of Heavensward with no time limit if you ever want to try it back.
The shameless self advertising was amazing Dee Bee, never change!
The fate of Dyslexia, lol.
Final Fantasy 14 Online is one Gigantic Adventure.
Other comments have probably already said as much as this, but the story is one of the best parts of this game and essential to progression.
You can absolutely play this game from a Let's Play prospective, practically everything is unlocked through progress in the story and the main story quests give more than enough experience to level you up between each larger event. It's useful to have friends around to party up with but is no means required and the game is fairly kind even to solo players, not counting endgame content obviously.
It's also by no means too late to start playing, last summer there was such an insane influx of new players joining that the servers literally could not keep up and needed to be upgraded just to accommodate the rising figures. You'll be absolutely fine if you decide to start playing now.
You done more grind on the KH series 😛
The best way to see it, each expansion is like a season and Endwalker is the season finale. You will get all the answers (99%) if you stick around!
And yes you can fly! in each expansion, after you unlock it ! with Any mount!
Oh and..
Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV? With an expanded free trial which you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 for free with no restrictions on playtime.
The Patch Trailers are worth watching from 4.1 onwards. That was when they started to make them more story focused trailer experiences, instead of just content overviews.
A new Lalafell player is born 😀
Deebee watching FF XIV … Now that gets me excited 😀
One of the big things for people that played previous FF games is that XIV pays homage to the past games, but with respect …
And yes FF XIV 1.0 was a cluster f…
They achieved something unprecedented … they basically created basically a new MMO in about 2 years while for a large part of that still were fixing the bad version and even achieved to make it previous.
When they decided to shut down the original game, thay basically made it part of the story and for the players that played to the end when the servers shut down they were shown the End of an Era cinematic …..
Yes they were teleported into the future, for the Legacy players they implemented a lot of tweaks, a different starting story, a special mount, and a special tattoo as survivers of the 7th calamity
Nah its fine I was the same I saw the trailers before I played the game … and it did not take away from the great journey once I did
They also just recently added the ability to play the earlier main story or MSQ as the community calls it dungeons with NPC AIs …. they also went and adjusted those dungeons for a better play experience .. since many of them were created under the rush I mentioned to earlier
Final Fantasy XIV as I game I would classify as an RPGMMO – its a first and foremost an an RPG with an incredible story with the MMO build into it …
Its an extremely long ride … but so satisfying when I recently caught up after 9 months of playing … 😀 but I did take mi time 😀 without any rushing
it's still possible that you played the OG ff14 and started in ul'dah, the city states were already there but storywise a realm reborn takes 5 years after the OG events
As someone who started playing FF14 about a year ago, I can definitely say it is becoming one of my favorite games. Very heavy in story and character development, I highly recommend it if you are wanting to try it.
Oh epic. I got into FF14 back in August, and I'm blown away by it. Really wished I started earlier, but the great thing is, it doesn't really matter when you start because you can still go back and do everything. It's an FF game through and through. I'd recommend it if you had more time on your hands, haha.
Bahamut used Terraflare. It was super effective! XD
I was so hyped to see this in my feed. I've been playing for half a year now and couldn't be happier. I just lost my sprout icon last month 🙂
as for the story you can play through the game as is, there is no grind if you're there just for the story as for how long the story is, i'll say it's bigger than all the kingdom hearts games combined and then some, there is actually kind of an ending tho but moreso a story arc, with latest expantion they ended a 10 year story arc
I thought you played 15? Wouldn’t you recognize the summons?
The game story is fantastic, you can do it like a nice playthrough
at 50:00 yes you can literally create a character and play it like a let's play. this game is more like an RPGMMO where the story is the main part of the game.
10 years of campaign story. Enjoy my dude.
I'm very much down for watching you stream the game! Fair warning, as a streamer you may get mobbed by fans who play. Still, it's worth it.
For info on the remaking of the game into a realm reborn, I recommend this hilarious video – https://youtu.be/aWIrju3F6nU
I knew it was only a matter of time huehuehue
Ff14 is quite definitively cross platform. In fact you can log into your account on Playstation, and access the same account on PC, assuming you have the game on both platforms. Playing the msq from the start is interesting because you can see the jumps in cutscene quality when you move into patches that were released on more recent consoles.
Ff14 is very story rich, and you'll progress pretty well without having to grind much. However some of the story beats, particularly at the beginning, are a little spread out. You do need to play with other people, but they have a set up where you can get matched with other players pretty easily, assuming you don't wind up with a group of friends following you around to help you in dungeons and stuff.
My recommendation would be to treat it as a casual stream option, and only make edited videos of the big plot twists or moments you found engaged you. It's important that you don't rush the story and let yourself enjoy the experience!
Not a big fan of MMOs originally and I wouldn't have guessed that my favorite FF story would end up to be in one a few years ago
It's fully cross platform, even your account is shared once you buy the game
It's never too late to play ff14. There's a free trial that includes the base game and the first major update – Heavensward. Just last year we had a massive influx of players who were leaving WoW and looking for a new mmo to fill the gap. The community is very new player friendly, and has a good reputation. And there's plenty of guide videos out there of you need them – I recommend Jocat's A Crap Guide series because they're both hilarious and pretty decent basic guides to how to play tank, healer, or dps.
Please DO NOT watch the Teaser Trailers, because you will watch the real Trailer anyway. And maybe don't put your own music in it, so we can play the music in the backround.
I played a Relm Reborn free trial but haven’t gotten into Heavenward yet, but I can’t wait to tackle it. I never cared for the stories of any MMO I’ve played before this.
I left a longer and more detailed comment on the video that was taken down, but suffice it to say that while I am historically not an MMO kind of guy I fell in love with XIV from the moment I played it.
I had a friend who convinced me to play WoW Classic, so I have some experience of raiding from there which I did enjoy, but leveling was a bit of a slog. FFXIV on the other hand, while similar in some respects, is a completely different animal. It is, through and through, a "Final Fantasy first, MMO second", as they say: a story-driven experience and even speaking as someone who, by all accounts, hasn't got to the best content yet, it still had me hooked. In fact I have no doubt I'd have been at endgame right now with multiple max-level jobs if the same friend I mentioned before would have been as passionate about the game as I was when I started.
Alas, that was not to be, so the game is currently on my backlog behind other games, but I have every intention of going back to it someday even if only for the story content. I would highly encourage you to at the very least it a chance. It's quite slow to pick up in terms of story, but by the time you start getting to the end of ARR it starts picking up a bit, and by the end of the post-ARR patch content prior to the Heavensward expansion I was completely on board.
My man wasted his partnership opportunity with final fantasy FOURTEEN by cozying up to the black sheep of the series instead.
On a more serious note, this is probably a good way to experience the game for the first time. If you start up the game from the beginning completely blind, it really doesn't put its best foot forward and you're likely to fall off sometime before the good shit actually starts to go down.
I can not even begin to explain how much XIV has changed my opinion about MMOs in general. Final Fantasy XIV is a rollercoaster of emotion, tedium, repetition, surprises, great characters, a broadening world and epic challenges that await those who are parient.
It is crossplatform, you can play with pc or ps5/PS4 and still play together As long as you're on the same data center and the same server world so no you don't have to force yourself to play on the lesser system.
I love Final Fantasy XIV, I only started playing last year in August, and when I did I wasn't going through a great time (trying to keep details low) and it was a game that I wasn't sure about but when I started playing I had a fantastic time.
I love the characters, the world, the story, the gameplay, the classes and the music. They make the experience beautiful.
The game is free to play up to the end of heavensward so nothing is stopping you. Here a bit of trivia at the release of endwalker the fourth expansion they had to stop selling the game and the free trial registration because so many people were overwhelming the servers.
Man I'm so hyped with you trying out my favourite game of all time
Despite being an mmo, you can just tackle it as a normal JRPG, no grinds n stuff during the story and you can completely witness the story from the beginning up until to the end of the recent expansion (which was the conclusion to the 10 year story arc we had over the years). And no, you are not too late, actually now is the best time ever to just jump into the game 😀
I am so happy to see you react to all of these trailers. I've played for 6 years, and have not actually seen all the old ones.
I will say, you can 100% go about this game for the story itself. There will be interspersed moments where you have to do multiplayer dungeons and fights, but the amazing story will get you most of the experience you need to continue progressing. Lots of characters to fall in love with an lore to explore. Plus they're actually gearing the game toward people who want to play solo more and more with npc options for the newest content and they're going back to add the same functionality to the older content moving forward.
I'm sure a lot of your other questions have already been answered, so I'll spare the repeated nonsense. but I just wanted to say I love watching people react to this game's story that I've grown to love so much, and if you did a series on it I'd watch every moment!
You can definitely approach FF XIV like a playthrough.
Grinding isn't an issue in my opinion.
You can use help from a friend or you can play with random people.
He really shouldn't watch the patch trailers if he has any intention of playing the game himself. The cinematics are fine, they're vague and mysterious enough that there are no real spoilers there. But if he's watching patch trailers too then that would spoil the actual plot.
i use to play this game and i tried so hard to get the class i wanted which was gunbreaker…(Squall weapon)
It's 100% not too late to play the game, sure it may feel overwhelming, but over the years they've done a lot of stuff to make the experience better, hell now that Endwalker has been released last year, it is a fantastic time to start.
You CAN play this as a stream game if you stick entirely to the main story questline; it still takes very long, but not that much more than other jrpgs(argably less since there's not much time spent traversing large maps or delving into dungeons comparatively). There's no real grinding involved since the xp, money, item and gear rewards you get from the mandatory quests are more than enough to keep you going.
That said, most of the optional content is actually very good, and that includes the writing. There's FAR TOO MUCH to clear on stream even if you do only first clears for story, but if streaming through the MSQ gets you hooked to the game anyway, you could play through the sidecontent off-stream while recording yourself and post highlight videos of things you liked enough to consider worth the effort of making the video.
As a side note: if you do decide to stream it, I highly encourage you to consider playing a non-dps class, like tank or healer. The queues for dungeons will be A LOT shorter, and compared to other MMOs, tanking and healing are very easy roles anyway. In fact, they are straight-up easier than doing good dps once you are a couple expansions in.
