The MMORPG mouse has been a World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV player favorite. These mouse are the staple of an entire genre, leading to a myriad of further development within the market of multibuttoned mice. However, MMORPG mice are often hard to translate at first upon pickup and take some practice. Today I reveal some tips and tricks regarding MMORPG mouse use with WoW and FFXIV to help you better understand and make sense of this type of gaming mouse within this mouse guide. Visual representation, proper keybinding, UI (User Interface) setup and selecting a mouse that best suits your needs is key in setting you up for future MMORPG success!!

The MMORPG mice, mouse, I mention here are:
Razer Naga, Razer Naga Trinity, Razer Naga Pro, Logitech G600, Logitech G502 and G502 Hero, Corsair Scimitar, Corsair Ironclaw and the HyperX Pulsefire RAID – my personal favorite of the bunch.

Which mouse will you choose? How might you setup your UI and keybinds? I hope this helps you in understanding the MMORPG mouse!

  1. Which MMORPG mouse are you using? What does your setup look like?

One other aspect to consider that I had left out of this video: preferred grip style. Wiki describes these 3 primary styles in Gaming Mice as:

Palm Grip: the hand rests on the mouse, with extended fingers.
Claw Grip: palm rests on the mouse, bent fingers.
Finger-Tip Grip: bent fingers, palm doesn't touch the mouse.

This is something to consider, but part of why I left this out of the discussion is because I know many people, such as myself, who can function across the majority of mice using a claw grip. I worried that people would hyperfixate on the suggested style rather than what would actually work for them (ie. HyperX Pulsefire RAID + Claw grip). HOWEVER, If you are prone to hand cramping and other hand problems, it is best to be mindful of grip style.

  2. Got used to these mice like a decade ago. I went through 3 Nagas and currently have a Logitech G600. I can’t play an MMO without them. I was never interested in playing my whole keyboard like a piano while trying to move with WASD (yes, I use strafe, nerds). I mainly use the keyboard for movement and chat, and the 12 button mouse with shift and control for at least 36 buttons for use with my thumb.

  3. This mouses are really awesome; the big problem is i think all of the are for palm grip medium to largue hands. The only that i could use, the logitech g600 was almost good for a medium to small hand with claw grip, but that stupid shape at the right end thanks to the 3rd button make the claw grip impossible for the size of my hand.

  4. I've tried using a G600 but I was never comfortable with it. So last year I bought a Zelotes C12 Gaming Mouse – only six buttons on the side. I have Ctrl, Alt and Shift bound so I can keep one hand on the mouse and not twist my hands.

I also use ESDF for movement and use QWRTGHBN45YU for abilities.

  5. pro tip for the G600, don't use Ghub, it wont save the keybinds on the mouse's memory. Use Logitech Gaming Software, saves custom keybinds to the onboard memory no problem.

  6. I'm contemplating getting an mmo mouse or a tartarus v2 keypad. Any ideas as to which is better? (I already use a g502 so it's not like I don't have any mouse buttons available)

  7. I wish I knew how to game with a keyboard and mouse. Every time I make it to a flag in frontline someone comes in behind me and plants it first cuz they click with their mouse 😭 we could be heroes, just for one day 🎵

  8. The Logitech G600 have onboard memory, which lets you save your button mappings onto the mouse itself by using the software on a PC.
That should then work on the PlayStation if you remember to set the mouse to be in Onboard Memory Mode while in the logitech software home page menu.(there is a switch to switch between onboard mode or auto detect game mode) or something like that. 😛

Hope it helps if you havent figured it out yourself. Or atleast it'll help someone else playing on PlayStation. 😀

  9. 5:36 exactly this has put me off mmo's for a long time
Recently started playing the ffxiv free trial on ps4 (using keybord and mouse) and your vids have helped a lot with the setup. It doesn't feel overwhelming anymore. But it will take some time to get used to keybord and mouse

  10. I got a Logitech G600 to play FFXIV but it's so hard to get use to it. With a controller i never had any issue, when i started to play it was like i've been always playing that game but with a KB+M it's a pain.

I don't know if my hand is small cuz i'm having trouble to press the keys on Mice, about change our Hotbars pressing and holding Ctrl and Alt it's even more difficulty to me, i just can't walk, move the camera and press any of those to use a different Hotbar at same time.

I hope i get use to it somehow, someday. Meanwhile i have to play with NPC cuz if i play with Players it's s nightmare, for my Static i still using a Controller ( with insane Drift issues, the reason why i decided to try a KB+M this time instead buy a 5th Controller ).

  11. So, on the recommendation of this video, I picked up the HyperX Pulsefire Raid because the G600 just felt too bulky to me. This is the worst mouse I have ever seen as far as configuration goes. I cannot, for the life of me, get the buttons on the mouse to work in FFXIV. They are all mapped to multiple media functions and you don't seem to be able to unbind those functions. So if you are in game and you click the top side mouse button, it will mute all of your sounds. I can't find a way to unbind this. Also, HyperX themselves say that for things to work you have to keep their software open and running in the background. For keybinds, you also don't seem to be able to bind keys with modifiers. If I try to rebind to CTRL+1, it just rebinds to 1. DO NOT BUY THIS MOUSE!

  12. i just have my razer naga mouse copy the keyboard. so buttons 1 to 12 is 1 to 12 on the mouse then use modifiers alt and shift so I got 3 full hotbars with my mouse and set up the hotbars to my mouse layout so easy
