UGH, just TRY not to cry listening to Final Fantasy XIV's Hopeful Dynamis..

This is one of my absolute favorite pieces from Endwalker – the sad joy, the reflective emotions, it’s sublime in its simplicity.

  1. A streamer picked out that it sounds very similar to His Theme. It evokes those same emotions of sadness and joy, The fear and meleancholy of loss. The swelling happiness of love. Hopeful Dynamis plays when there is a small glimmer of light that pierces the darkness of all the despair around us. The soup scene with Julus, this scene with Meteion. They are both heart wrenchingly sad and overwhelmingly filled with light and hope at the same time. This is what I would call Soken's truest masterpiece.

  2. Absolutely loved the video. I don't know much about Final Fantasy XIV, but your commentary made me interested.

On another note, could you look into Citizen Sleeper's OST ?

  3. I don't know that any other song has encapsulated letting go of pain, grief, loss, or depression better. The little touches make so much impact, such as the violins rising up and the light but determined snare drum indicating the barely present but returning urge to fight through it all. Magnificent.

  4. Truly one of my favorite tracks from the game. Each note is punctuated by this feeling of innocence and loss, love and hope. It's like it takes you to this feeling of longing for a place that feels like home, but you can never go back. But you can move forward with that home in your heart.
Every time I hear this song or rewatch the cutscenes/playthrough it always hits hard.

  5. "in the course of your long journey, you will learn from those you meet." The camera pans to us. I took this direction as how the WoL has similarly grown by learning from others. To walk, run, and so much more.

  6. When you think about it, those Elpis blooms have seen it all. The Sundering, the Rejoinings, the rise and fall of many heroes before us. They've reflected every color, shone with every emotion. And now, here, at the very edge of creation, they serve as proof that even this swirling realm of dynamis is not void of hope. "The despair of a thousand thousand worlds weighs heavy, and yet you can walk on." Have you ever considered why we can walk on?

It would be too easy to say that we know we're that hope. I think it's more likely because we dare not waste the sacrifices of our friends. We live to honor them. We draw our hope from them. Amidst these old flowers that have seen this tale from start to finish, we ascend to face Meteion. As an entelechy, she serves as a mirror for us, though darkly in her present form. But we see enough of ourselves in that mirror to realize it.

    "Despite everything, it's still you."

  7. This song and Flow never fail to make me tear up. The writers, animators, and OST teams created one of the most soul-rending experiences I've had in a game in years, and I am damn grateful for it.

  8. We had to separate Meteion from Twitter to save her. This music is one big hug and I just lost a dear pet today, so I think everything is going to drive me to tears. God bless you- if you have friends/family/pets [that can be] HUG THEM. Tell them they are loved.

  9. Nice, been waiting for this one! While this song was perfect for this scene, it also worked so well in some of the other scenes earlier in the expansion (Jullus receiving hot soup by his former enemy, for example). Your follow up to this should be Neath Dark Waters, the Scions & Sinners arrangement. As Hopeful Dynamis worked so well to emphasize purity and hopefulness, Neath Dark Waters worked so well at emphasizing melancholy.

  10. When those strings come in, they sound to me like the sun breaking over the horizon after a dark night of uncertainty. The uncertainty turns to hope and suddenly, there is light, serene and pure, rising high. That ostinato is so good and gives it such a wonderful texture and I love how there's a harp in there doubling it. It's such a stunning piece of music.

  11. I never hated meteion.
I wasn't even angry at her.
    I pitied her.
    I wanted to save her.
Which is why when the one we knew spoke again, I was…… hopeful.

On the course of your long journey, you will learn from those you meet, learn to walk and run, and so much more.
A flower… yes upon your return I shall gift you a beautiful flower."

  13. I will always know this music, I (re) learnt to read sheet music and had to slightly modify it to turn it into a music box feed as a gift to my G/F for our 3rd anniversary.

God knows how many times I listened to it in trying to get her 'orchestration roll' correct, it is part of me now.

    I love you Rebecca.

  15. That part with just the strings feel like a hug to me. Admittedly a lot of the emotion of this song comes from hearing parts of Flow for me. The lyrics of Flow and how they connect to this moment brings a lot to it for me.

  16. No matter how many times I hear this theme it will always bring tears to my eyes with it's beauty and power! Shadowbringers and Endwalker both got me through a couple really rough periods of my life. I still come back to this track every time I need a good cathartic cry. Soken you are an absolute genius!
