Trying Final Fantasy 14 – 5 things that surprised me

I decided to try out Final Fantasy 14. Having played WoW for 11 years, it is strange to enter a new MMORPG. Here are 5 things that surprised me so far. FINAL โ€ฆ

  1. Welcome to the game! For however long or short your stay with us is I hope you enjoy it. I've been playing since the beta of ARR. I'm also a decently leveled raider. I've played plenty of other free MMos but, this would be my first paid one.

  2. Loves the Sims and MMOs.
Oh my… As the one who purchased our FC house and designs it I hope by the time you obtain a house you're far into the MSQ because you may never leave your lot lol

  3. welcome to FFXIV ๐Ÿ™‚ i always felt ARR is lot better than most people say, also, if it doesn t have the best story is mostly because it s world building and you ll end up needing it to enjoy a lot more what comes ahead. And i hope you will ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I play wow from vanilla to lich king and the return for pandaria and then finish completly with that mmo. 2yrs ago i jump in ffxiv and have a lot of fun with the game. The story only gets better and better and the fun increases with every patch an expantion. completly the opposite in wow when basically a new expansion means they resell same game. The comunity is awesome , a lot less toxic than wow , because the game ffxiv itself is less toxic. There is huge content in ffxiv , is massive. The end game is just having fun. ffiv has something for everybody. You want hardcore go savage or extreme , you want to hang out just join a fc, etc.

  5. Welcome to FFXIV and Eorzea! Always fun to see new people enjoying themselves. Unlike WoW, no need to rush to endgame. The content is not going anywhere. I came late to the party (near the end of the Stormblood expac) and I caught up just fine. The game is very much about the journey and not just the destination.

  7. Yeah, Housing is a shark pool because the number of lots (where you can build a house) is finite. You can also lose your lot after you buy it if you go for more than 30 days without entering your house.

Oh, something a lot Sprouts don't know: You can use Gysahl Greens twice in a row to stack your Companion's summons to 60 minutes.

I played FFXIV ARR when it launched, but quit before the patch quests were released. I came back when Stormblood launched and was blown away by not only how much the game had improved, but how involved the story was. Haven't looked back since. I've tried to get back into WoW and it never lasts more than a few months. I flat out quit playing before I had even finished Warlords, then my brother offered to pay for the sub for a bit if I'd come back. Played Legion and it was okay but not compelling for someone without a guild and no real interest in raiding.

FFXIV raiding is a whole other beast and much more enjoyable. Outside of the Savage level, it's fully pug-able; and no need for Best in Slot nonsense, either. While I'm in an FC, I still tend to pug most content and never found myself overwhelmed.

  8. Played WOW a little, abandoned it for FF. Been playing for a year and waiting for the next expansion. Playing on Chaos Moogle and leveling alt jobs at the moment.
If you need help in anything, than give me a contact, and I will be happy to help ๐Ÿ™‚
Have a great day in Eorzia and FF. Go forward Warrior of Light.

  10. Keep using that Chocobo even if you feel like you don't need it anymore to fight enemies. A leveled up chocobo is extremely powerful and makes fates/questing much faster.

Also, love the accent. Very pleasant to listen to.

  11. Welcome to the community! Just to let you know on the 'ARR is the worst' part of things. The actual main story isn't so much the issue. There's lots of world building which can feel slow for some people but its otherwise good. The part that's 'the worst' is the bridge content that comes after you complete the ARR MSQ but before you start Heavensword as it drags a bit, once you get through it though the other expansions are much more graceful in their transitions.

  12. i went the same path. did free trial but by lvl 30 i knew i was loving it. I unsubbed and bought FF. Best decision i made, also you think you like it now, wait until heavensward and then Dragonsong followed by Stormblood, even these i was so happy with, just wish i had gone to this game yrs ago.

  13. I know this video is almost two weeks old, but I also wanted to point out that you can even summon your chocobo to help out in combat! You can make them a tank, DPS, or a healer. You just have to get some gysahl greens and finish a quest to unlock them. You may have to Google the quest since it's looks just like any other side quest. I would suggest making them a healer (even if you are already a healer) as their first job. The tank is meh and the DPS is nice, but having them keep you alive is great for not dying.

  14. Weโ€™re in the same boat! I played The Sims since 2000 and still actively playing it while playing FFXIV too. Itโ€™s just that Iโ€™m taking a break from The Sims for the moment because EA has been producing worse & worse quality of expansion packs. Nonetheless, both communities from both games are super nice โค๏ธ I hope you have a great time in Eorzea!
