  1. I’m in the middle of stormblood now and I have to admit Yda (Lyse) went from one of the most forgettable characters to me (I started in Ul dah) to one of my favorite of the scions, I’m going to be honest when playing ARR she felt like just a ditz that was inserted into the story to give a reason why the game would rehase old lore without being condescending to the players, instead of the characters having to do a deep dive into a lore dive that happened 30hrs of cumulative game time prior the conversation because the game expected you to forget they made Yda be the ditz and forgetful one so the game has a reason to explain it to you without actually directing the explanation at you
But I just love the energy around her in stormblood, it’s this young naive idealistic postive energy, but it’s not cringe and it’s not completely blind to the world around her like a child, it’s naive and idealistic but it’s not delusional
It’s the energy that when people have gotten into a routine that leaves them miserable that she gives off an energy that looks at you having found a way to be comfortable in the shitty situation and says “hey that looks miserable, have you tried doing this ?” And ever so slightly causes you to budge out of that comfortable nook in your shitty situation to make you go “yes this place really really sucks”

  2. Preach called Heavensward the second best story he had ever played. Fast forward two expansions and he declared with a tear in his eye that Heavensward just got dumped on. All I'm saying is, you're in for a ride.

  3. Asmon its funny that you say that FF brought back that nostalgia of your early 2000s gaming with friends around the lunch table because Asmongold said he had that same experience playing through it in both the community aspect with friends and the experience of playing through a classic rpg world.

  5. I cannot wait for you guys to experience the fights in Stormblood, and the narrative from 4.1 onwards. Heavensward is a landmark expansion and deserves every bit of praise it gets, but oh boy are you in for a treat going forward.

  6. Gosetsu's introduction being right after Papalymo's sacrifice, without the two month break at the time it came out, my reaction was, and I quote, "I haven't had such mood whiplash since Disk 2!"

  7. Without spoiling anything after what you've already seen — Papalymo being dead or not was explained shortly after his sacrifice via Yda's disappearing tattoo. She mentioned that the tattoo was a glamour (by Papalymo) to help hide her identity (for reasons she explains during her face reveal). Seeing as the tattoo completely disappeared (which would only happen if the original caster was no more), it indicates that Papalymo's aether was fully absorbed and that he's 100% dead.

However, as you guys have noticed with Haurchefant and Ysale, being dead in FFXIV doesn't necessarily mean you might not see them again in some shape or form, so who knows? Guess you two will just have to play more MSQ to find out!

  8. Lyse has a lot to learn. She’s still a dense lady and had been hiding behind her sister’s mask and Papalymo’s back for so long. So she needs to learn on where her role will be. Enjoy Stormblood xD.

Ps. Have you done the Void Ark Raids?

  9. I actually think Stormblood is underrated. I think too many people took a "bad" chapter and just rate the entire expansion off of that. But looking forward to see your guys thought on it and thought on the expansion as a whole once you are done with it.

  10. Papalymo got wiped out by the removal of all 1.0 and the truncating of 2.0.
He's not just fleshed out, he and Lyse are in the very first 1.0 cutscene a character sees if they start in Gridania.
He's the third to speak, after Hydaelyn and Lyse.
Here's a link to the starting cutscene. The character models were in very high resolution and were too strong for PCs back then. 2.0 curtailed the system requirements, so this is him at his most animated.

  11. Man, those "dark moments" and tearjerker moments only get more impactful as you hit the latest expansions. It's breathtaking and hauntingly beautiful at moments.

  12. I'm a little surprised people don't see the Griffin reveal coming. As soon as I was told there was a masked man trying to drum up support for a revolution in Ala Mhigo I was like- 'oh, it's Ilberd.'

  13. To explain that kobold being a mob enemy/quest for ears feeling:
If you guys ever decide to read the written/background story bits. I think initially it was mentioned in an HW era interview, then specifically in Encyclopedia Eorzea II (Warning it was designed for post Stormblood informationwise), it states that "Beast Tribes" were basically a racist term created by the Ul'dah merchants to declare these various native races as sub/nonhuman entities as a way to justify removing them from economic competition (goblins, qirins, slyphs etc.) or stealing their land (amal'ja) and this mentality extended across Eorzea from that influence. So the story is becoming more overt in trying to show you that these "beastmen" are also people, with intelligence, emotions, families and culture. That strange disconnect is the slow realization of that fact, and you've been kinda murderhoboing them along the way due to treating them under the context of "just how MMOs work".

A bunch of us had that feeling in the early ARR days regarding spriggans, which aren't even considered "beast tribes" but actual monsters who steal ore and just get in your way with mischief. Then with seasonal event (mostly the Easter ones you can't see anymore)+sidequests, it turned out they could actually communicate with people relatively normally. As a species were mostly friendly (also adorable) and at worst mild annoyances. They also had had their own culture and family units, and your earliest dungeon adventures included massacring essentially a whole settlement of them living peacefully somewhere humans had abandoned for years just because they decided to take back the mines on a whim.
(Look at the spoken lines of spriggan "bosses" Biggy and Ziggy from ARR and HW. They may seem like generic enemy/boss lines, but they are seriously trying to protect/avenge their friends and family from you, who just killed a whole bunch of them.)

  14. People give Stromblood a hard time but in all honesty it is not all bad, if you were able to enjoy ARR, Stormblood definitely is not worse. It's just a lot more… grounded with some "?" moments, more MMO-like questing and a character that takes probably too long to develop. However there's plenty good in it too and once you get to the patches, it goes through the roof again.
So while it is unreasonable to expect "heavensward" with SB, it's not as horrible as some people paint it to be. And yeah 100%, the dungeon design becomes the standard in SB, they perfected it and the raid tier is really damn good.
Enjoy your journey through Stormblood and know that once this is done and over with, you will not know when to stop yourself from playing.

  15. Don't have much to say, except it's been great watching your videos (and the stream videos! I have it play as my commute background stuff, frankly). 🙂 Looking forward to you guys finish off the rest of the major content (Warring Triad, Sky Pirates, and Optional Dungeons) of HW/Free Trial, before leaping into Stormblood!

  16. Lol no one can avoid becoming a walking advertisement at this point. I'm so excited that you guys are in Stormblood right now! I love the combat in Stormblood, you would enjoy it too! 😊

  17. What if I told you that the best is yet to come, and EVERYTHING you touched on from Ga Bu to Gosetsu matters and pays off in big ways?

Stormblood hits different from Heavensward but it hits hard, and post-SB gets WILD.
