bro i ve been playing this game for so long, asked about this multiple times in many chats (including xemos LOL) and now that I've "quitted" the game I get this info LMAO
Thanks for the Video im pretty new to FF14 (3-4 months into it by now) and i just switched to legacy around 3 weeks ago because it felt much better on my Paladin to use shield lob without getting turned around to the mob and completly get lost in direction XD.
The tip with keybinding "Strafe Let,Strafe Right" is insane 🙂
For some Reason i overlooked that and i always felt like that FF14 camera Movement is a bit odd and i never could figure it out what bothered me until i rebinded it so i move left and right not the Camera.
Feels much more like the MMO i used to grind (Aion) to move the Charater instead of the Camera, so huge thanks for that 🙂 <3
Happy watching this video that I've been doing this all this time. As soon as i played, coming from more Action-combat MMOs I IMMEDIATELY changed from standard to Legacy. You're too cracked once you get this down 😀
anyone know if there is a like quick switch way. cause I like different setups for different play. Like I have a casual UI that pushes everything to the corners so it's a bit more cinematic for story content and casual play. but I got a raid UI that puts important information closer to center so my eyes don't travel as far.
I just kinda like keyboard turinng in casual play cause I can hold left mouse and run in perfect circles that way.
I just switched to legacy about a month ago and glad I did.
Okay, the legendary baldy-beard-man convinced me to switch to legacy. Still fighting the muscle memory to flip the camera 180° to turn, but liking it a lot more so far. Being able to run at max speed in any direction at a moments notice feels great.
I played back in ARR and quit before HW. I picked the game back up just before 5.4 and the first thing I did was set my controls to legacy because backing up in standard is a fucking nightmare.
i will have to argue with moving with your mouse, it has saved me more times than legacy/strafe movement including when there are mechs that involve sliding and instant 180 degree turns. i think calling it bad is pretty false. and i know 100 parsers who use mouse to turn.
is that a 1998 dell keyboard?
Thank you! I didn't know this option was out there to fix my issues
I instantly switched to legacy when I started this game. Standard just felt like garbage.
I'm too used to standard to be able to change to legacy. It takes me longer than a lot of people to retrain my muscle memory, so I'm reluctant to switch.
The amount of customization of the ui in this is amazing you can make the game play as if you designed the game it's so good just play with your settings guys.
OK SO The tip to change move A and D to strafe it's so fucking good if u are used to standard camera, imma try that
Legaccccccy Controls ftw
I've been using legacy since i started playing even though I had so many people tell me that standard is better. THANK YOU for explaining why it always felt better to me to use legacy I could never really put it into words.
Should I worry about this if I use PS4 controller?
I've got Turn left and Turn right on Q&E on legacy for jump spins lmao
Legacy is ultimate
What? My character turns automatically to face the enemy when I'm attacking, and if I have auto-turn off then I can't attack and the game says I don't have line of sight, even in melee.
Now look into optimized controller gameplay~
I always play in Standard, but I do it slightly differently. When I need to back up from an enemy, I will turn for a split second while strafing left or right (whichever direction I feel is best). It takes maybe a fraction of a second for you to turn 45 degrees and start strafing in that direction, and I find that in anything Not-Savage, it's plenty of time to do any kind of movement you need to do, and I know someone who does the same thing who says that it works even in Savage. But then again, I don't use the mouse for camera aiming, either. Which is why Legacy would not work for me, at all. I use WASD for Move and the arrow keys for turn. But then I know I'm weird in that way.
Legacy is objectively better because it doesn't gimp your field of vision, and in turn, your awareness in a fight.
A and D is fine for me and hasn't failed me since 2013, I've never gotten hit by a gaze mech because of movement, just lack of awareness. so it's def a preference type of thing, kinda like standard and legacy. Legacy peak btw
If I could simply rebind backpedal in standard to run backwards of legacy I would. Standard works fine for me anyway. Could it work better? Yes. Does it work well enough? Yes.
The only argument I have against unbinding the Turn Left/Right would be in situations where you do need to run intercardinal backwards but still want to actually keep your eyes on the boss.
who the fuck moves with WASD? lol.
You are literally my hero. I've been trying to figure this out and why it was happening to me. It's cost me so many lives, I walked out of a gaol on titan extreme because of this stupid standard control scheme making you move in unintuitive directions.
This change is such a little thing with such a large payoff. I feel like I've lived my life for 24 years and I just now learned how to move correctly.
I laughed so hard at 6:18 – the wiggling your mouse is so relatable to me, because that's just what I accepted the game to be.
Wow thnx xeno i just started using legacy yesterday and its been effortless getting out of AOEs.. thnx for sharing your strafe method.. ill add that to my settings, next when i get on.. and yeas im a WARRIOR MAIN!!…. FELL CLEAVES GO BBRRRRRRRRR… xD
As a ranged DPS main i sometimes move with my mouse to always move forward to manage procs and ogcds, it helps free up my hand from using wasd to focus more on damage.
I didn't realize it til now but f I need to try out legacy. As a whm, having to pan my damn camera every time as I move is so slow and grating. I wondered how some people could walk backwards while I crawled or waisted time turning around(looked liked i was doing twisters ffs). FML, THANK YOU Xenos.
Also it was trash in WoW. I just thought it was the norm to walk slowly after 10 years.
9 min video to rebind strafe…thanks strummer. Awesome content
I ran standard for years because it's how I started, doing all the crazy movement to try and look away and keep hitting. Yet, auto turn will just screw you over so finally after wiping on a really good TEA clear pull I made the swap mid raid. Learned it on the fly, only caused one wipe in two hours. Haven't looked back, definitely use Legacy.
I tried legacy but couldn’t figure out how to move the camera without moving my character, like while I’m casting. I feel I must be missing something.
