You laid out the problems and the solutions but what's making this situation worse is that the patch cadence has slowed down from every 3 months to every 4 months.
I hope they do something because this is also gating new players from attempting end game raiding content.
I like your ideas. An idea i had for savage is that you could use books from higher bosses to buy loot from lower bosses at a disccounted rate. if it ask for 4 books from wing 1 the same item would need 3 from wing 2, 2 from wing 3 and 1 from wing 4. Also reduce the books for the weapon and chest.
Very reasonable ideas. Keeps the initial gear grind consistent for folks who like that race to BIS , but lets folks who just want to gear without doing savage not feel like they're doing nothing for 6-8 months.
idk honestly… a feel like I had gripes about gearing at the start of the year and earlier in the expansion but since then I've talked to some WoW veterans and spent a few months in lost ark and realised just how much XIV spoils its players… in literally all regards. 2 months on average to get BiS is great and the absolute best gear being locked behind actually tough to clear content is also fine cause I highly doubt anyone who cant clear the current savage teir has any business in current ultimate. Would be nice for the raid tier to unlock a few months earlier, probably the same time as a new ultimate drop cause I don't see any real reason that anything should have a lock out if its not the current hardest content in the game, but that's about all i'd change. As for casual progression, allowing crafted gear to be upgraded is already plenty. Even now a month after the raid teir has been fully unlocked 620 iL is enough to get into most parties and it certainly is more than good enough to do every bit of content in the game aside from ultimate.
As for alliance raid gear… i honestly don't know. I wouldn't carry it to current max iL and certainly wouldn't make it out right competitive with savage gear right off the bat. This isn't me being an elitist or anything cause I'm not but at the same time, rewards need to be relative to their content's difficulty. I think what you propose with alliance raid gear is logical if u make it say, 5iL lower than current iL. This way we have an armor/accessory set on par with the current Ex trial's weapon and a set that feels a bit better to use than the upgraded crafter set. Alliance raid gear does indeed feel completely useless outside of cosmetics and something should be done to make them a bit more useful. There is also the part where, from what I've noticed, the game is already balanced to have BiS be some combination of tomes and savage raid gear from the launch of the savage their. Shoehorning in alliance raid gear a few months later wouldn't make a whole lot of sense aside from allowing some of those pieces to just become irrelevant….. which to be fair now that i think about it might be a good change prior to a full savage unlock a few months later.
kind of wish getting tome gear augmented was easier, but i can't really say much, i just get base tome gear and call it there, i don't mind the cap and daily grind of tomes, just wish the augmenting of them was more reasonable. maybe use the newest tomes to also get materials for each piece as another option to give casuals like myself a way to obtain them slowly overtime between patches while also giving raiders another outlet to get them a bit faster since they are willing to put in the added effort.
