I would like to see rune knight as a tank but my only concern is how much overlap it might have with dark knight and paladin. I would personally like to see something like Clive from 16 as a melee dps. Like a melee summoner or something like that I think would be awesome 😂
Before we move forward, it needs to be addressed that there NEVER needs to be 2 of the same class type dropped at the same time EVER again. If they stay with the 2 job per expansion it needs to be staggered, 1 DPS and 1 Tank or 1 DPS and 1 Healer. The queus were horrendous at launch.
Idea for a tank, Keyblade Master, why the hell have we not gotten anything to do with KH?
So far with the exception of warrior every tank job has been based on some Final Fantasy protagonist. I mean I suppose if you assume that Guy from Final Fantasy 2 uses axes You could argue that water is based on him but that's kind of a stretch. The next tank could be based off of Celes… but we already have a sword and shield job.
i would like a job with…
big Shield+Spear (the arm is combined into same slot, unlike pld sns)
2H hammer
dual wield hammers
flail
paper talismans
MH hunting horn (or a bell, but thats not as cool)
My guess is physical ranged. It has been the same amount of time for it as tank. The reason I do not think it would be a tank or healer is because they are making job changes in 8.0 to hopefully de-homonogize them. It would be difficult to not only make the styles of tanks and healers unique but balanced, while also introducing a 5th concept that is unique from them and balanced. The reason DPS is easier is because for the most part, all DPS are unique at the moment.
Plus, as of now, physical ranged is the only role that is at an odd number of jobs. Probably not as important but it might be where they are thinking. I would say that before a striking job.
Hoping they can get the homogenization issue sorted in 8.0 so they can move away from double DPS drops since tanks and healers with the current system, are so similar it's hard to think what they could add.
On paper though, I think a Blitzball job for ranged phys could be fun for maybe a DoT class since they're not doing it for caster, alrhough they would probably need to do it in a way that doesn't directly put debuffs on the enemies since that seems to be an issue with the system, so maybe like a job where the auto attack acts as a ranged DoT and their abilities enhance the tick damage or something. But Blitzballs are such a fun weapon choice for designs IMO.
I could also see Psychic for an interesting tank, maybe Exorcist for healer or caster with how often they tease it in events and it was an edgy healer in Bravely Default.
The things that seem to be teased a lot through the MSQ, role quests and side quests, seasonal events that I noticed were poison/disease and ghostly stuff so my money would be on Exorcist and/or some kind of ailment job.
I know Yoshi-P has said no, but I still want a Blitzballer job aka Wakka from 10, as long as the LB3 is Chaos Dunk. Or Corsair. Also, simpler job design means they can make harder fight mechanics.
If its a tank they could go the Nero route and make it so since the end of EW, Garleans have been more forthcoming on their technology/third eye and it we become like a type of engineering tank to mimic that. Use a giant hammer and use mini droids to shield, heal, deploy lasers as a stun, interupt, dot or reflect
Not a prediction, but I'd love to see a spear and shield tank.
My main issue with Rune Knight is we know it exists in lore, but it’s basically no different from paladin or dark knight. If we were to get a new tank , it would be 100% location based Corvos? Retiarius, Mericidiya? Voidsent based tank or a dragon shaman etc etc
I don’t think it’s about the armor type but moreso the # of jobs in each role, with picto every role now has 4 jobs except phys ranged and because of that I think it will be another tank and phys ranged like in shb. In terms of the weapon I think it will be a big hammer like you said, I don’t see us getting another shield job ever because that’s Paladin’s whole identity. I think Hammer is long overdue because Nero in the story uses a hammer and we don’t have a hammer job, Gaius is a gunbreaker and we got that.
I'm almost certain they'll now switch to one job per expac, which is a shame. I want the next job to be a tank that fights purely with shields/rocket shields. Call it The Wall or something and tease it by walking on stage wearing a Spider-Man D-lister villain t-shirt. I will say though that Rune Knight is a great idea and would likely just wield a spellblade (think Elder Scrolls) adorned with runes, differentiating it.
My guess is the next expansion will be based on either FF10 or FF13. If it's FF13 I will take a guess at
Sentinel – Tank – Based on Snow. A tank that fights with fists.
Ravager – Phys DPS – Based on Hope. Uses a giant boomerang.
I think they can make a new tank with thrusting shield weapon a la Elden Ring. Or maybe something like Weapon Master with huge bonk weapons.
Maybe also a physical ranged with throwing blades? Throwing bombs like the goblins and Nashu? Chemical balls like Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6? Honestly anything that's throwable but also not too similar to existing jobs.
The thing about job identity is we had that with arr, heavensword, and stromblood but people were say the jobs were to hard and this also lead into jobs being excluded or even over looked making it almost impossible for people playing those jobs to be selected for raid, unless they went to one of the meta jobs. In Alexander on content PLD was excluded do all the magic damage at the time. In stormblood DRK was excluded cuz its kit wasn't good anymore and PLD and WAR brought everything better and more and that's just tanks. With Shadowbringers and the balance adjustment thats not an issue anymore. I do agree that if they can keep the balance then fine go for it but have player excluded for liking jobs that don't meet the meta is bad for the longevity of the game as a whole. And lets be honest here DRK has been in a bad spot for years upon years and in endwalker i got the high damage love only to fall to the bottom again. So they have to balance the job identity or DRK players will not be taken into highend content again. Im saying this as a tank main I've been tanking ever since ARR first came out i remember when WAR had wrath stacks, and if anybody remembers in endwalker the savage fight that was sent out unbalanced that only specific jobs could clear reliably is what old expectations were like albeit a bit more watered down then back them. So once again job identity in the way that alot of want will most likely lead back to those times and then everyone will complain that my job is either to hard or not good enough to clear higher end content cuz this community as much as I love it, is filled with whinny people that are never satisfied. At some point people have look at what is good for the game we all loves longevity and success.
Here's weapons for new jobs I can think of for each gear category:
– Striking => Dueling Staff or Nunchaku (or a mix of both)
– Scouting => Kusarigama
– Maiming => Flail
– Aiming => Whip (might be taken by beastlaster) or Crossbow
– Healing => War fans
– Casting => Plush (FFX Lulu)
– Fending => Greathammer/Hammer&Shield or giant gauntlets (think Vi from Arcane or Doomfist from Overwatch)
If there is a tank, it will be lance and sheild
Its going to be physical ranged. Every other "class" has at least 4, except this one.
However, it could be that they will not introduce ANY new job.
If anything, I would rather have a break on new jobs and get some jobs just reworked.
I tell you man, we are getting Blitzball player. Yoshi-p is so quick to deny and shut down any mention of Blitzball (you can see it when the first trailer of Dawntrail was shown in Fanfest). In addition, the Hildebrand questline had us do a lot of sports-like animations in the cutscenes. We never get to do anything cool in cutscenes. Understandably since they have to rig that animation to every race and gender combo that exists in the game. So there is no way they did that much work for a couple of gags for Hildebrand.
Rune knight and gambler.
Rune knight can use a big sword but with hole in the spine for the runes
Gambler is self explanatory
I want Charge Blade be it a tank or dps XD
I always wanted a Mecha tank but :[
So i think its going to be a phys ranged because its the only role with only 3 jobs.
As for a job i wanna see, soccer/blitzballer class, yes i know Yoshi-P blatantly said "no" very enthusiasticly might i add, so i am well aware this is likely never going to happen. Never the less having a class that just uses a soccerball would still be fun and I'd love it.
Alternatively I'd like a pistol and sword job for a pirate motif, id imagine it'd play similar to redmage or machinist, youd build up a guage using melee attacks and then unleash hell with your pistol
Blitzball player, shifting between melee and ranged.
I hope we get a Gunslinger phys ranged job. I know we have Machinist but they only use their gun in like 10% of their moves. Give us a REAL gunslinger with dual pistols or something.
Geomancer as a tank would be awesome.
So before I give any guesses, the last we’ve heard of any consideration for decreasing the number of jobs released with the expac is that Yoshi P dorsn’t know if the fan base would even be ok with that. He worries, and rightly so, that it wouldn’t be well received. I think they could get away with it if they preface it with them wanting to spend more time on existing jobs to make them feel more unique again, but I’m running on the assumption that YoshiP is unlikely to sign off on reducing the number of jobs added in 8.0.
To this end I’ve had the same prediction on this since they confirmed what roles the new jobs for this expac were gonna be. It only makes sense that with something of a pattern emerging with the roles we’re getting new jobs for we’d repeat Shadowbringers and get a Tank and a Phys Ranged DPS.
Lots of reasons for this. I don’t see the next expac adding another Melee DPS and I really don’t see them releasing an expac without a frontline job. (Basically a job that needs to be in melee range.) It’s just very JRPG main character ti be a frontliner they’d sooner not give us a ranged job, I’m sure. But as we’re speaking of ranged jobs, phys range only has 3 jobs unlike every other role with at least 4. And phys range I would argue is currently in a rougher spot even than Tanks. Maybe not for homogenization, but certain in terms of their position in the party and their damage output. Phys Range are very much only in the party for the extra 1% composition bonus. Phys range tax makes less sense every expac so it’s high time phys range damage output was reconsidered.
With that said! My predictions for jobs are Rune Knight or something similar for Tank, and what I’m gonna dub Athlete for phys range.
Starting with the one you already covered, Rune Knight would be sick, but not just cause I like the idea. I believe there’s a high chance we end up in Corvos at some point in 8.0 or 8.X and they are, if I’m not mistaken, known partially for spellswords. A Rune Knight could be that directly or perhaps something else to that effect. Would love to see a hammer job.
As for Athlete, as I’m calling it, I think some inspiration could be drawn from Wakka for this. A phys range that attacks by throwing, kicking, etc, a ball at the enemy. Obviously it’s more than that, but I can imagine this looking really cool animation-wise, possibly enough so we could finally get a ranged expansion mascot job for the first time since 1.0. Not holding my breath for that last one, lol. But I could imagine it expanding beyond just the ball. If they’re an athlete, they could have a ton of ways to attack other than kicking a ball.
I would love to see a Tank that utilizes stances similar to monk, but the stances/natural combos apply buffs to everyone around Tank stance (10% Passive Mit), Damage stance (10% damage passive buff), Protector stance (Magic stance that grants shields to allies).
We already do have jobs with hammers. BSM and ARM! 😆
