The hints Emet-Selch left about the Future of FFXIV, are Running Out

I found it rather amazing how quickly we’ve blasted through almost all of the places Emet-Selch hinted at in Endwalker. So before the next patch drops I wanted to ask all of you what location you would expect next in his list of hints! Be sure to share your thoughts as I’m curious to hear where players want to head next!

  1. I think that journeying around on the Source would definitely leave us limited with other places to explore, but there are still a lot of places to re-visit and delve deeper into yet.
If we could take our adventures to the other shards, experience what they have in spite of the danger, then we would truly rise to our true nature as Azem.
My biggest issue with Dawntrail is that the WoL's nature and myriad of responses that we've had since ARR were all homogenized for the sake of another character absorbing the spotlight like a space shuttle tile and leaving us as this basic, uninspiring, break-in-case-of-emergency, head-bobbing mess of a guide. Azem was a shepherd of men and an avid learner, one that adventured and didn't sit still for very long. We've saved the universe and the world times over, yes, but I'd like for us to live up to Azem and discover more about ourselves as we journey, and so far we haven't explored much of that at all. All we've done is reminisce on our fallen comrades and clutched our magic rock to our hearts to summon in times of need, but we haven't learned anything much in relation to the ancient we once were.

There needs to be plenty of places we, Azem, can go and open up deeper meaning and understanding. I was disappointed with our assigned role in the DT MSQ as our kick-off from the ARR saga and there's a lot of potential, but I'm worried we won't see a fraction of it if the studio keeps timegating creative liberties behind their quotas. Greed and mismanagement will always and ever be the other side of the coin for creation.

  2. The interesting thing is that there is a scene where Uriange mentions the dialect of the "current" language of the Mericydian people being different from the ones we encounter during the quests involving the Warring Triad. I feel like that suggests either Sharlayans have made contact with Mericydia or at least come into contact with Mericydians at some point of their history.

  3. The place I want to visit the most is corvo, G'raha's homeland. Also I can't wait to enter Hingashi proper, I mean more than the Rokko mountain. Myracidia, we have hear about it for so long, I hope we will set foot there soon. There's a minion in a shape of a pyramid which is said to be the mini version of some real architectural feature of the continent, can't wait to see that. But closer to the current story, I want to see the 9th reflexion beyond the building we are in, there should be a way out to see the world.

  4. I want to go back to the 13th and see what progress our experiment has had. I wonder if it would be possible to link every reflection to the Source, not in a Rejoining, but in a Rebalancing.

  5. I just hope we go to the isles and meracydia before we do a time travel expansion. Er, another time travel expansion. But the first one gets a pass for how it was done.

  6. Just listening to Hades makes me tear up and bawl my eyes out… I can’t put properly into words how much I miss Emet-Selch. I love him so damn much. Probably a very unhealthy amount. No one can beat his character and presence for me. What I wouldn’t give to see him again. Even if it is just in the past again as part of a quest. Gods I miss him so much T-T

For now, all I really hope for, is more Ancient Lore. I need MORE!! it’s my favourite part of the game qwq

  7. I honestly am intrigued to go to Mercyadia because it has been widely tease somewhat in the game yet we know next to little to nothing about it other than Emet selch's hint and tiamat as for the reflections I would just say we will have to wait and see

  8. I don't think it's a bad thing that we're almost done with Emet's list. So long as the devs setup for further story in those plot points Emet mentioned then it's fine. The Twelve setup there big contraption thing to take their place, no doubt it will have a purpose later. Claudien has the Heart of Sabik, Tural gave us the Azem cup key thing, Meracydia can be it's own whole expansion which will definitely set more things up, we still have the eventual rebalancing of the First and Thirteenth, and probably more other stuff from side quests I didn't even do. So yeah, even if Emet's little to-do list is almost over we still have so many more places we can go.

Also the whole "Some of the civilizations in the reflections will surprise you" line is so vague that even if Alexandria was one of those civilizations, there's still like 3-5 more Reflections full of civilizations to go through.

  9. Hi, loved the content of the video, very well written and edited, and it has all the interesting FFXIV lore I was looking for… HOWEVER, your voice cracks sounded like nails on a chalkboard for me, please do something about it for the next video. I don't want to be toxic, truly, it was just painful to listen through it, I'm sorry.

  10. As a fan of xii and tactics, is a easy answer Merecida, plus the fact that we have now one of the second brood as ally , "free" Tiamat, and has Mid as friends, is not hard come up with something that united, the sions, the dragons, the people of the flying circus, and maybe Maximos and Julios to create some form of alliance with then, add some trial elements, and we have a exp!
Even new jobs, with xii and tatics as a frame kit, Jobs is not in short options s2

  11. I want to see the rest of the middle continent, the Sharlayan overworld, more of FF America's (the roads out of Urko Patcha and where the railroad goes in particular). And of course I want to visit FF Australia and the other shards.
Maybe we can finish, uh…, "the middle continent" with more explanatory content.
We should probably hold off on going to Australia for a time though, since we just got to Murica.

  12. I think the pluralism of golden city translation might be a missed typo
The JP script only mentioned眩き黄金京 (Mabayuki Ogon Kyo) which directly translated to Dazzling Golden City

  13. Given that a lot of ffxiv content and story has been way more made up along the way than one might think, Emet's words must've just been the first few initial plans/ideas they had in mind for the following pieces of story and content. There's no doubt there will be tons of other stuff after that. Yoshi P even hinted past and future travelling wouldn't be out of the question in one of the more dawntrail interviews

  14. My man you know I love your content and have been a huge fan for years but… Don't you think this thumbnail is too spoile– nah im just fucking with you lol. An excellent video as always. I was convinced we were going to Meracydia when we were hunting for Azdaja and dealing with the 13th in Endwalker. It seemed like the perfect segway to go there.

I seem to remember a video you posted where you posited that was a location we might go to but said you thought the new world is where we would go instead and you ended up being correct there. What made you think that I wonder?

  15. I haven't done Baldesion Arsenal, so I don't know if that addresses the disappearance of the Island of Val. But after Dawntrail I'm wondering if it was a place that was relocated via the artifact/key that the Alexandrians used? Seems like it'd be worth checking out.
Ever since doing Coils I've really wanted to see Meracydia, too.

  16. The treasured islands would make another good variant dungeon maybe, we just need our guide NPC – a certain blue-eyed sailor we met springs to mind, renowned for his travels to difficult to reach places.

  17. Something I felt Yoshi P tried to comment on during his interviews leading into Dawntrail is ultimately I don't think he's looking for this game to continue on forever. It sounds weird for an MMO to have an "end point" but I think its a trend more games really should strive for.

If this new arc starting in dawntrail runs as long as the Previous ARR – Endwalker, we're looking at around 24 years of this game running, and if they provide us a really captivating and fun experience for that time, I think that's honestly incredible, and if they decided to make this arc's endwalker the final piece of major content for the game, I think that's totally fair, end on a high note, end with a meaningful conclusion to the story that everyone will remember fondly.

I'd much rather that then seeing them constantly trying to justify why a new threat has come along, constantly scaling us up further and further, making things we did previously feel less impactful as a new threat needs to pop up to take its place, and stretching out the world. Like, look at WoW where its been a meme about how the map, even in the titan facilities, people who made the world are just highly inaccurate because the dev's just need to slap a new landmass down to expand out the world and justify further adventure.

I know its a point of friction between the creative vision of the devs, and the business side, the potential lost income of keeping the game running as long as possible, but I truly feel there's so many examples of trying to bring series back, or trying to prolong the life of a franchise only builds resentment towards it, but when we look back at older titles, we can appreciate our time with it, even if it had to come to an end eventually.

  18. The fact that we still have so damn little information about Meracydia after all this time save who's come from there and what happened to the dragons there by Allag's hand, is incredible to me
How much longer is it gonna be
It's THE southern continent, it's Australia and Antarctica in one

  19. The hints about the future of THIS world are running out but remember there are other reflections, and much like Zero's reflection they too have stories to be told and damage that needs be repaired honestly my theory is that the game as a whole will not end until all 13 reflections are repaired and OUR character the warrior of light becomes whole. As we all well know all people are a 1 of 13 shards of an ancient OUR character being a shard of Azem so far we have merged with one other shard if Azem that being Ardbert so currently we are 2/13 shards my theory is eventually as we repair all the broken reflections we will merge with our other shards and become whole and the LAST Ancient taking up the persona Elidibus claimed as "Mankind's first hero and his final hope." Which we all now know from endwalker he learned that from us having helped and saved him in the past and he is emulating us. Also we as the last Ancient will also take up the station Hydaelyn previously held spurring on new future heroes new Warriors of Light. Thus becoming the one who sets the future protectors of each star of the 13 reflections AND becoming the standard in which these future Warriors will hold themselves to. THAT is my theory of how FF14 will end and WE HAVE LONG ROAD till then so people stop worrying and click bait content creators stop acting like "it's Joeover for ff14."

  20. According to Sightseeing Logs, one structure in Azys Lla is a temple ripped right out of the ground from Meracydia to study the effects of faith on eikons/primals. Incredible levels of desecration aside, I'm looking forward to seeing if I can find a temple-sized crater somewhere in Meracydia, assuming eras of erosion and plant growth haven't buried it.

  21. I find myself not entirely excited to explore the rest of Etheirys, tbh.

After seeing that one of the endgame dungeons and the giant culture for Dawntrail was basically just Ronka lazily reskinned (and with a horrible end boss at that), I'm not sure I want to see more.

    Why would I want to?
Is that what I have to look forward? Lazily reskinned same-old same-old claimed as "Fresh and new"?
Shadowbringers gave us a reskinned Limsa. :/

  22. Dawntrail has shown (hidden underneath a myriad of other problems) that strictly following the same formula for what was supposed to be the start of a new story arc is a terrible idea. Endwalker was already going a bit too far with the memberberries in my opinion, though that story had the excuse of being the big finale, so it was only natural to bring back a lot of fan favorite things. Dawntrail does not have that excuse, and they've managed to give us a look into another reflection and make that reveal as boring and unspectacular as possible. I was actually baffled that our group witnesses probably the biggest city they've ever seen, with incredible technology, a completely different culture and so on, and they barely raise their eyebrows. If that's what it's going to be like going forward, then just abandon the current plan, get the writers into a room and have them come up with something truly fresh.

  23. Unfortunately, I think the Golden Cit*ies* of Tural may be a retcon so as to not complicate the other reflections. Unless there are different, more literal, cities of gold rather than electrope-gilded (which may be explored in side content), it's highly unlikely that similar materials and gates appeared from other reflections, espcially concentrated in Tural.

  24. I don't give a single shit about Meracydia, some cyberpunk shard, or a wacky reflection. We could hop on a spaceship and travel to a new planet but guess what? Estinien is already there. Don't forget to attune to the aetheryte and talk to 3/4 people about their local culture. I don't care about the novelty of 'OMG NEW PLACE' if the reasons we're there are stupid.

But his hints were only the tip of the iceburg with some suggestions with where to start.

  27. Question, are Noctis and Clive from other reflections? Or different universe entirely? If they are from reflections then, there's 2 more to add to the list of reflections we haven't visited.

  28. I do have a theory that Hades was essentially giving the Warrior of Light the locations of the ruins under the Bounty, and the Golden City of the New World, because they were the locations of world ending or at the very least calamity triggering events. And his bidding us to "seek discovery" was his way of saying telling us to prevent upcoming disasters.

  29. I would love for us to finish off the Source's locations before we go Shard Hopping. Like, we do the Tural/Alexandrian reflection stuff this expac, and then next is Mericydia and places like Naxgia, Hingashi, Gelmorra, etc. Make the Mericydia plot a mixed plot, where yes, we are helping Tiamat bring a sense of stability, but an underlying theme is that we go there because the Knickknacks of Azem are dangled before us by Tiamat. That she feels they are connected to us, and wants us to have them, collect them, but that they are spread throughout the world, and she will help us, if we help her. And that leads into the next expansion, which starts our Shard Hopping proper. Starts with the pre-expac quest where after collecting the Knickknacks, 'Shtola can finally make stable rift gates between Reflections… but on her end, only ones that she has been before. She teaches us how to do the same, but we flub it up (cause comedy insertion..) and suddenly we are on another Reflection. One that is peaceful, but provides huge amounts of adventure. We don't get involved in politics until later. I honestly would love it to be 1.0 starter questing style… where you are just a nameless adventurer, making your name, and get scouted by that Reflection's version of the Avengers Super Friends Scions. Have them all genderbent, or personality switched, something to spice it up. Have it be proper medieval fantasy, or make it a true magitek society that we end up in.

Sadly, I kinda feel I know the direction they are building towards for the Reflection stuff, and that is Dimensional Overlay, which might as well just be called Rejoining 2, Electrope Boogaloo.

  30. The Treasure islands of Blindfrost = Lost Continent from FF9. (Shimmering Island and Esto Gaza. We're also going to Terra at some point in the future.) The Northern Crater from FF7 (Ultima's progenitor is Lavos + Jenova), and the Trabia region from FF8 (Shumi Village)

Meracydia =The Forgotten Continent from FF9 (Ipsen's Castle), the southern continent from FF6 (the Sealed Gate with the real Warring Triad), the Galbadia and Centra regions from FF8 (the capital of Meracydia is Deling City instead of Bevelle and Lunatic Pandora is hidden here as well), the Mideel region from FF7 (naturally occurring gateway to the Lifestream thus explaining the elemental instability. That and the Thunder Plains are here but that's a FFX thing), Mysidia from FF2&4 (The Mysidian Tower survived the Sundering and was made in secret by Athena to hide a second Heart of Sabik. That and every shard has a Meracydia and the same legend surrounding it), and Zanarkand from FFX. (The Allagans are basically the Bevelle of this story arc. Praise be to Yevon. Yu Yevon created Dream Zanarkand and Sin to guard Meracydia for the last 5000 years)

Hingashi = Spira (Minus Zanarkand and the Thunder Plains of course. There is also Vegnagun to worry about in the ancient Allagan ruin under Bevelle) from FFX + Wutai from FF7. (The Alexandrians have been stealing Aether from the people of Hingashi for thousands of years and we're going to have to clear that up)

Tural = The Outer Continent from FF9 (The Iifa Tree and Memoria from the Ninth are here), Galuf's world from FF5 (Queen Sphene was originally sealed here and there's a Big Bridge begging to be turned into a Hildibrand Trial), Dream Zanarkand from FFX (It's off the southern coast of Yok Tural near Meracydia and the ruins of Baaj Temple), the Destiny Islands from Kingdom Hearts (Wuk Lamatt is just discount bargain bin Sora with Bartz, Lenna, and King Tycoons flaws. Guess who Sphene is mind controlling. RIP orange cat), the continent of El Nido from Chrono Cross (The Sea of Eden will lead to the First and contain remnants of the original timeline G'raha came from. Specifically, 2400 years after we died during the Eighth Umbral Calamity or 2400 AD. Ultima/Lavos/Jenova will be mentioned along with the Time Crash and a brief mention of FATE/Proto Fal'cie Adam), and the Esthar region from FF8. (Castle Oblivion/Alexandria Castle's basement was here the entire time along with Solution Nine)

Alexandria/Ninth = The Mist Continent from FF9 (duh), Castle Oblivion from Kingdom Hearts (We're on a Electrope Holodeck unwittingly powered by The Fayth in Meracydia which means we never got off the boat), the Kingdom of Zeal from Chrono Trigger (There is a Queen Sphene and a Princess Sphene and Zeal was the Kingdom of dreams), The Forest of Moore from FF5(We broke the Crystals of Light (Meso Terminals) binding the evil queen allowing her access to the final Key to her prison. Hints: It's orange, made by an Azem shard (Lucca Ashtear), and it opens Gates to other times and places.), Palamecia from FF2(Queen Sphene is the Queen Eternal and there can be only one Queen forevermore and she shall rule the universe), Midgar from FF7 (Preservation is just the Shinra Electric Power Company), and the city of Esthar from FF8 (There's a reason nobody has noticed these refugees from the Second Umbral Calamity and it isn't time travel. Hint: Esthar was hidden behind a Holographic force field that looked like the second half of a Great Salt Lake. That and Sphene's prison is similar but less effective than Sorceress Adel's)

The First = Bartz' World from FF5 (Sphene needs a distraction while she attempts to seize control of the Crystal Tower and the giant floating Ronkan fortress under Fort Gohn (upgraded by Electrope) would cause some major chaos to Norvrandt (Black Omen now accessible), the world of FF3 (duh), and the world of FF1 (The Crystal Tower is the Chaos Shrine of FF14. Hint: Sphene wants her kingdom back.)

The Thirteenth = the world of FF4 (duh), the World of Darkness from FF3 (also duh), the World of Darkness from Kingdom Hearts (Zero's real name is Rikku. A dual reference to FFX and Kingdom Hearts), and 600 AD from Chrono Trigger (Durante's real name is Janus and he's the long-lost Prince of Alexandria from the Ninth. Yes, I'm saying it. Golbez = Magus)

G'raha's Timeline = the world of Chrono Trigger (They survive their doomed world and found the Kingdom of Guardia. Lucca is our reincarnation from this timeline and creates the Gate Key setting the plot of the new saga in motion. She's from 1000 AD. duh), the World That Never Was from Kingdom Hearts. (We're in the Dark Azem Saga and they want to be whole again Xehanort style. That and they want the power of The True Source. The Mothercrystal of the FF14 universe), and Balamb Garden from FF8 (Azem is training some of his shards to capture and Nort us so he can be reborn. He is also attempting to create artificial Azem shards for this purpose should plan A fail. A rejoining is a rejoining. Time Compression will also be involved) That's my prediction for the new saga.
