[ SPOILERS from Drakengard series and the first scenes of NieR: Replicant/Gestalt]
The final Boss in it's entirety is a reference to the shared lore of both Drakengard and NieR. In Drakengard 3, chronologically the first of them, we are introduced to a preternatural entity called The Flower, which assumes – of course – the form of a flower in the eye of the main character. Her Inflorescence has the face of 2B and N2, the Red Girl, plus the Flower on their heads. The Flower basically possess people in order to bring a Calamity-like event in the series by making them use Seeds of Destruction, the white sphere Annog was so eager to destroy. The Seeds of Destruction, once known as Seeds of Ressurections, can create shapeshifting entities called Grotesqueries and caused the major incidents at the final acts of Drakengard 1. The Ending E of Drakengard 1 shows the main character arriving with the Queen Grotesquerie, born from the Seed, in modern Tokyo, defeating her but being shot down by the Japanese Air Force. The remnants of the Queen became literally snow made of salt, which contamined the world. The white fog you see in The Copied Factory, before fighting Engels and 9S is the same salty snow that emanated from the body of the Queen and caused a supernatural blight in the world. This Tokyo, this world afflicted by the plague, is the world of NieR, where a young man in Replicant version or an grumpy adult in the Gestalt one is trying to find a cure for him sister or daughter, depending on which are we talking about.
The NieR Raid series were like an attempt to tie everything together in the world of XIV
"This is probably a reference I won't get…"
Me: slams two shots of whiskey Let me tell you about this slice of Hell called DRAKENGARD…
i’m highkey glad that everyone who i watched experienced the first boss by getting knocked off with all alliances, it’s so damn funny
God knowing about Nier Replicant including a new ending and this raid has a TON of references to said ending. Taro Yoko referencing an ending we haven’t even seen outside of reading a short story until after this raid came out.
I laughed too hard from the surprised pikachu when that pillar landed an inch away from you xD
The building that comes up through the floor is supposedly the Square Enix HQ building hehe
