The FFXIV Healer Strike is Stupid

A totally serious not serious breakdown of the #FFXIVHealerStrike.
This video is not a green light to harass, belittle, attack, or witch hunt. It’s satire and an opinion piece.

  1. Going to put this out here because the “feedback” is going a very gross direction.

It’s okay to disagree and critique my video if you disagree. I welcome it and encourage it as long as it’s constructive.

What is not okay is threatening me, or harassing me with attack comments over a satirical opinion piece. I’ve had to remove 2 comments involving threats. That is never okay or welcome.

  2. Healer strike is really dumb, especially since the ones crying dont even raid. That said, tanks definitely need less self-sustaining, though, especially war. Their job is to mitigate damage and hold threat.

With that said, dungeons are waaaaay too easy. There's casual content and there's sleepwalking. I don't think it's a bad thing to give healers more to do in a dungeon in terms of healing. (If you wanna dps, play a damn dps. You're a healer, your focus should be on healing with dps being filler)

  3. As one of the penta-legend ex-healer mains quitting because I'm bored with healer, you are absolutely right that the strike won't do shit to fix the problem. And it is mostly because people asked for this. But I can't help but think they've been set up, at least a little bit.

Healer isn't nice and approachable like dps. You can't just be shit at it and expect to be pulled through content (we all know those dps), because when you fuck up your (healing) rotation in higher end content, you (usually) don't get to keep going, it's just next pull. People want healer to be approachable though, so they've lowered the bar for casuals (not a bad thing, I fully support making msq fun for people). But since the game makes no effort to teach you to heal, you can't expect it not to impact other things.

Because the bar is so low in casual content, healers have nowhere else to learn but Extreme/Savage. That leads to people like me, who are happy to teach if need be, but would rather just not heal if it's not with someone I know already (or just act like I don't have a cohealer because it is legitimately easier than teaching some people), so pf starts seeing a healer drought. That leads people to try healing (because it's easy enough in casual content, it can't be that bad), complain it's too hard, and the cycle repeats.

    Actual fixes:

    1. Have midcore content to learn to heal. I'm begging, at least try to teach healers. DPS get enrages/burn phases in dungeons all the time. Tanks get busters in dungeons all the time. Healers don't get any real heal checks outside of high end content (even some of the Extreme/Savage heal checks are laughable).

    2. Have ways to keep experienced healers happy and willing to teach/deal with people learning. The best way I can think of is an engaging kit, but at least try to make it so solo healing isn't an easier option.

    3. Stop removing the ceiling to fix the floor. Actually though, you don't have to remove skill expression to make it approachable. It's okay for there to be a distinguishable difference between average healer and great healer.

    4. Add in variety (this doesn't just mean to kits). As nice as it is to have so many healing buttons, it means nothing when you use 2 or 3 every 30 seconds, then just spam 1 button. Imagine your kit was just autoattack (the only thing most other jobs even come close to using as much) and a couple 30 second cooldowns that look really cool. It's bearable in short content, but once fights start taking 10+ minutes, it's unpleasant.

  4. I didn't even realize that they cleared that dungeon with a Warrior. Lol.

Anyway, as a newly minted healer main, reformed floor tank DPS, I can say that nothing sounds more boring than spending and entire duty healing. So long as the tank doesn't die, I am pushing my damage buttons.

The best form of healing is a dead enemy.

  5. The issue is that for casual healers, the levelling process is their only challenge, largely due to end-expansion content often syncing to max ilvl for that expansion. Syncing arguably cuts into the healer role more than any other; dps still do their rotations and tanks still need to boss position. Casual but experienced healers look forward to the difficulty jump in levelling content because it's basically appropriately synced. What Xenos did was not news to many players, but it crushed the illusion that there is challenge in that content for casuals. These people are parroting what they hear from the vocal minority of healers because they can't really pinpoint what's wrong, but the real issue is the levelling experience for healers is garbage.

(But let's be real, savage isn't hard to heal)

  6. i'm a jack of all trades… i play all the classes and know how to play each of the classes… i've ran into to many morons… tanks that refuse to use their OGCD.. HEALERS, that refuse to heal because mah dps… i'm not joking… i have died as a tank and the healer bitches at me for the wipe because… i ran out of cds… these morons want to have healing be more engaging… set an HP% tank doesn't go below that point… set an MP% do your best to keep your mp above that point while doing A… I love sage… I can do A and B with little to no issue… Oh you want it to be harder? downgrade your gear to bear minimum ilvl for the dng… there are so many things these self entitled dimwits can do in order to make the game more enjoyable instead of crying on the forums simply because ya suck at it… each role has a particular mindset… and I'll agree that healers do need a bit more to their damage rotation… but not at the cost of survivability… I'm one of the few ppl whom enjoyed the original concept of the Ast card system… I was a whm that stance danced to cleric stance… I micro managed my sch pet. hell SCH was the most engaging healer class until they nerfed the pets… why did they nerf it? WAHHHH i hate micromanaging my fairy…. and now it's a snore fest… thank you vocal minority for quality challenging stuff nerfed…

  7. I would say I "respectfully disagree" but this video is such crap I needed to call it out.

    1. Lumping the players who complained about too much dps buttons and not enough dps buttons in today's XIV is not right, there is no evidence to support these are all the same people. It's fine for current players to say they want more buttons to do damage if they desire.

    2. I main tanks, this notion that they all "feel the same" is an overblown notion online and completely untrue. Similar yes, but carbon copies to one another? No.

    3. DPS GCDs and Healing GCDs don't have to be the same. You could come up with interesting game play where healers have to risk healing vs. doing damage all on GCDs or even make healing interplay with dps buttons giving them more risky (interesting) game play. They are saying they want to CAST more because healers are fundamentally casters at heart.

    4. Nothing wrong with want Normal mode trials and especially dungeons to be more engaging. We all know dungeons are quite mundane in this game.

    5. I don't really recall anyone saying that savage and Ultimate prog is easy. Not sure about that one…..

    6. "Skill issue" and "Git Gud" are immature overused, crap, high school grade internet terms that people seriously need to stop regurgitating.

    7. I took great offense on this last one. Let me make something clear dude, there is absolutely nothing wrong with someone posting on a forum with their complaints. That is no way is "hurting the game". That's BS and you know it. Fine if you disagree but those people are just posting their worries and have every right to do so. Get off your high horse buddy. Saying they are throwing a "tantrum" and calling them "idiots" is out of line. Grow the hell up.

  8. The healer that complains on the forms, is the same healer that goes "i only seen up to x part of [insert EX fight]". Then proceeds to sandbag the whole EX fight because they cannot heal or stand like a complete bump on a log, waiting to heal.

I do not want to waste time so a healer whose incompetent in playing the very basics of their job can feel important. I do not want to go back to "we're quitting this dungeon" because the healer cannot use ESUNA fast enough during Haukke Manor Hard Mode.

No thanks, the denizens of the forums gutted and then strut around like a rooster in chicken s*i* thinking they can do Savages and Ultimates.

  9. in call fairness the healers do have a point on normal content being too easy. i get that its not meant to be difficult nor should it be too difficult. but the normal content does need a difficulty boost. not a crazy boost just enough for there to be fun and unique mechanics within them to provide some challenge. it might be story first mmo second but its still an mmo and a video game. this isnt a visual novel.

  10. The dumbest part of this strike is doing it the day of official release rather now or during early access. So they can go ahead and clear the content on their main heal class through msq during EA then play the new dps classes when everyone else pops in and call it a movement.

  11. The fact that healer strike started after the video of the some dude on the internet, even though people played healers before and had no problems with it, is hilarious.

  12. To be fair about bringing up summoner

TONS of people want the old summoner rotation back.

As for homogenization, it's something everyone complains about. I don't mind healers complaining about it because if they get theirs fixed, it might get ours fixed.

The rest doesn't make sense though.

  13. Remember kids, it's a "Boycott", not a "Strike."
Tells you how much thought goes to each "Me too" post.
"You don't pay my sub." Ok.
So with that logic, you don't get paid to play Healer, so shut up and move on lol

  14. Healers have dps spells because solo duties. Dps have self heal because solo duties. Let both have self heal and dps stuff! As a healer main, I find the strike to have some really stupid points.

The Devs kept taking spells/skills so the hot bar wouldn't be so cluttered. Arcanist lv30 class quest is harder because they removed our proper tankbuncle. I don't understand why they did this. I could sub in for a tank that left our Quarn run, and have the carbuncle tank that death boss with the bees, because final string doesn't affect carbuncle. And when we got a new tank, i switched back to dpsbuncle again. Versatility is fun. And the Devs took it away. I remember and miss cleric stance.

It's why I just gave up between story patches, and just went back to ffxi, which has a butt ton of spells to gather and hunt, and lots of abilities for healer and the other jobs. I still enjoy ffxiv's story, but the gameplay wears out fast. I know ffxi isn't cool, but damn if it isn't fun to struggle and win.

  15. Removing self sustain is the dumbest idea ever.
If I’m ever in a situation where we have to boot the healer for trolling or being afk, or they disconnected, I do not want to be in a situation where progress is absolutely stopped because of it.
I also don’t want to lose my ability to heal myself if I make a mistake in raid and have to say “lol my bad. Heal me please.”

  16. That is pretty much it, a tantrum. maybe 5% of the player base maybe some legends maybe some casual riding the strike train for a bit. i personally haven't seen a difference in "shortage" of healers in any part of the games content nor Fc members/friends these past 3 months. so my THEOERY is some players got butthurt over an online game because their job didn't get a uniqueness this time around.. when people have alot of time in their hands they create random problems and Misery loves company. we all know as soon as the 28th(for early access players) and the 2nd of July the only thing Keeping healers from joining groups will be the 1400-4000 quees LMAO. why is anyone worrying about a "healer strike"? worry about login in and enjoying your Subbed game and expansion.. trust me ill be there HEALING making sure yall get thru the Dawn trail story plus other continent and so the other 50-60% of players that can play or change jobs to healer. what a Drama queen this healer strike is. think positive yall, game coming in 3 more days. Enjoy yourselves for YOU not for others. if anything yall should be worried on how many Vipers and pictos are gonna be in the same party for like 2 weeks lmao.
