The FFXIV Competitive Speed Scene has a Problem – Here's How I Think We Could Solve It

The competitive speed scene in FFXIV is growing in popularity. And with more eyes on the speed scene than before, more teams are looking for ways to keep information to themselves.

This has ultimately resulted in most teams choosing to log dump at the end of the tier, rather than enjoy the season long competition together as it provides a serious competitive advantage. After all, why would a team want to give away their strategies and tactics that they worked so hard on.

But with a bit of compromise, I believe we can help grow the speeds community even more.

  1. Speed scene has died completely from what It was In stormblood, also. Arguably speedrunning has died. I speedran from Midas all the way to Eden's Gate and stopped because the availability of GOOD and Serious speed/HC groups has for the most part fizzled out. The problem Isn't the system, It's that players are no longer Interested In doing them, Log dumping has always been a thing, It's just a part of It. Just comes with speedkilling.

  2. I think FFLogs definitely could do more to promote speed kills. Right now it's a bit of a niche page, and not even really featured on profiles where most people are clicking around. In addition to having a better presentation on the main pages, I think it'd be cool to put a speed ranking in the profile tab too (like quickest time with a ranking).

  3. That's really cool in the ideas realm, but the problem comes from what the top speeds become in the end, you have everything set for mit and strats and it just goes to pulling the boss until everyone's full runs arrive the maximum collective RNG. Most new players will stop when they understand this point. These ideas can bring more people to the Speeds scene, but many of them won't be there in the long run. And more people will just say "Ah speeds is just investing a really big amount of hours into crit farming" while diminishing the hard work that is running all that time consistently.

  4. This kind of hardcore competitive speed kill scene is so niche, I don't see why any of this is really important. While I am not an truly hardcore player, I wouldn't consider myself a casual so from my point of view, all of this seems kind of pointless excluding world firsts. It's not like there is any real reward for this kind of speed kills achievements (except the feeling of the achievement itself). Simply, I don't see the point.

  5. Would be extremely funny if during the offseason, they put speed rankings for the alliance raid on the main page. I want to see all the top tier teams scrambling to combine together to get the top ranking for that lmao.
