As a new player who enjoys mount collection, it makes me sad the cash shop has so many sweet mounts but in game is pretty much all piss. The mount collection in FFXIV is pretty terrible compared to a game like WoW, wish they'd improve it.
I legit gotta question some peoples mental health the way some people are acting. Some of y'all really be out here like the CS came to life and killed your family, kicked your dog, burned down your house, and then stole your girlfriend with how angry you are at it.
It's fine not to like a CS but gets questionable when you are clearly way more upset at it then you logically should be. Calm down, relax, and eat something might be hangry.
Well said chair, I hate how this shit is the norm.
Have you tried getting over it?
Might be a hot take but personally, I don't think cash shops are inherently bad. If the developers want to effort into a piece of content of any kind with the intention of charging extra money for it, I think that's fair. I don't see it as being any different than paying for a new expansion every two years.
I only have a problem when devs do things like block off content originally intended for the main game behind dlc, or tie basic progression to micro transactions (i.e. Battlefront II at launch)
Im in love with your Joker phase, while i do tend to have slightly different takes on those (tho not on cash shop, perish with that, i say while eyeing Dirndl stuff), these are incredibly on point too.
Nobody asked, but having deleted my alt char who got some money shop items for glam and lvling purposes due to some pieces with that exp buff till job stone, felt bit dumb for doing so. And then made another alt and got even more stuff on them, including a STORY skip till start of SB (didn't wanna see Good Boi getting skewered again), but this time during sales XD And yes, got the bike and cruiser too, cause huge sucker for mechas and things that go vroom :'D
This needs more attention and I’m here to stand with chair
cash shops are bad in games. and you even didn't talk about retainers and the inventory system xD
I don't even pay for myself a shirt thats 15€ why should I pay for my digital character gear thats 15€, the prices are way to much
It's the second best version of a cash shop. The best version is not having one.
The good thing about the cash shop is that it is pretty easy to ignore. Even when other players show it off I just think it's cool without needing it. I may be an outlier since I lack FOMO
I won't lie my free time… is not precious. 🤷♂️
I get the “they don’t need to do much pop ups and stuff for the cash shop because other players are wearing and using the items from then other players see it and look into where they got it” I fell for that several times seeing some cool looking cosmetics some people had then finding out it was from the cash shop
Playing monk now, I see.
Same.
cash shop always suck and for a subscription-based game with a box cost suck even more, I hate the cash shop a lot and I hate the excuse ppl often bring out even more, tho video game is one of if not the cheapest form of entertainment nowadays and for FF14 and sub-game in general, the 15$ a month hasn't changed since the early 2000s, for 20 years of inflation and the rising cost of game development there's has to be some other way for them to make up for that, ideally not the cash shop but we don't live in an ideal world isn't it and greed is too much of a temptation to resist
People who say cosmetics don’t matter at all are delusional. I’m barely playing ffxiv until 6.2 because I don’t want to earn armor I like but throw either it or some other piece I like because of the glamour dresser slot limit.
Shiny gold pile of shit. Just like everything on the cash shop 💜
Totally agree that the CS in FFXIV is not good and exists as a money trap in a game that already has a box price and sub-fee. But I find the argument that cash shops in F2P games are inherently bad kinda sus. Like, they can be bad. They can have lootboxes, be Pay2Win, and be built around FOMO. But I don't feel exploited when I play DotA2 or LoL. I spend way less on those games than the number of hours I've spent on them comparatively. And I didn't have to pay to play them if I didn't want to.
I have two (three) rules when i comes to a Cash Shop.
1. Divorced from the in game gameplay. I don't want pop ups. I don't want a menu buttons while I'm snooping through the menus.
2. You cannot buy anything that can directly ruin the flow of gameplay. I don't mind story skips and what not. Cause they're there for people who WANT THEM. not *NEED THEM*. Cash shops are for WANTS not NEEDS.
3. Make sure you have a lot of sales on a variety of things. I'm wiling ti wait an INSANE amount of time to save even a few pennies.
Demon girl vtuber so angry they turned the voice changer deep and shut off the animation to really get the point across.
I spent $80 about 9 months ago to order the Encyclopedia Eorzea from Amazon in Japanese, because the NA one hadn't been released yet, just to get Matoya's Hat. I'd say you're right, Chair.
hope this villain arc ramps up cause these takes are room temp right now but i guess you gotta start somewhere
The worst part is the event items that could just be rerun but people are happy to pay real money for them instead
See I'm fine with the cash shop existing, I really don't mind paying for extra stuff, but the prices are honestly way too high for single character items. If they were account wide, maybe they'd be more acceptable. But they aren't and honestly at most the outfits should be $5. Not $18.
I did not know this game had a cash shop for the longest time, until I load into Bozja and people were speeding past me on a motorcycle mount, and ask how to get it. On that same day I purchased it.💀
I hate it as well, only thing I ever bought was the Odin Mount (and I waited for it to go on sale that one time). Do I wish it was an In-Game award like Cruise Chaser should have been? Yes. Do I think that the SDS Fenrir motorcycle mount should NOT have a speed increase? Also, yes. But the only way, and I do mean the ONLY WAY for them to stop doing scummy cash shop shit like this, is to make our voices loud enough. Our voices can be loud enough, look at the outcry we did when the SE CEO mentioned NFT's. Unfortunately to many people are either preoccupied with the new shiny content of 6.1 to care, or malding over Hrothgar hair.
Best version of a cash is like the best version of AIDS.
Absolutely based, chadded, and incredible takes
Tbh I wouldn’t have any issue with the shop if the game was F2P or B2P, but I already give them 15$ a month to play this game. That’s when it becomes ridiculous.
while I do think the ffxiv cash shop is not the most egregious one in games. it is still a disgrace that it exists. I'm more willing to put up with GW2 cash shop cuz at least I don't pay a monthly fee to play and the premium currency is exchangeable with gold
Meh, its okay but prices could be better. I rarely buy from shop now unless its a mount i truely want an shit.
I think FFXIV's shop is pretty good tho, compared to other games which you can purchase stats and equipment with cash.
I love evil chair, doesn't give a damn about being a total hypocrite if it means he can be based
Chair, if you seriously wanna be a villain, you need to start saying stuff that people are definitely not going to like.
“I don’t like them removing an action from my main” and “I don’t like microtransactions” are cold takes.
If you want my advice, make a video about how you hate other Final Fantasy games. You’ve alluded to it in the past and that’ll DEFINITELY get people to hate you. I know it’d work on me!
Cash shops can get fucked imho. I've paid more for this game than any other in my lifetime, and I'm still paying for it. The cash shop is tolerable right now in that I can basically ignore it, but it's existence is a threat to the game. If SE ever wants to they could make it really, really fucking awful for everyone. And if you trust SE on the whole then you're blinded by nostalgia and your love for this one specific game.
Now that I'm caught up I feel kind of annoyed with the outfits on the cash shop because they just don't put that many new outfits in the game. When EW released only the level 83 and 85 Dungeons, the Artifact Gear, and the Moonward Gear were new sets. Everything else was a reskin of a pre-existing set.
But that might be a larger problem with how dyes do and don't work in the game when they can just re-release and old set except "now you can dye it" or "the portions of it that you could and couldn't dye before have been inverted" and treat it as a new set.
I've always felt that b2p subscription games can't justify a cash shop, but what really kills it for me is how extortionate the prices are. $18, more than a month's sub for many costumes? $24 for an account wide mount (in a game where you only need 1 character) with even more expensive options based on seat count? That's ridiculous, and also likely the reason multi-seaters are so rare in game.
I played Lost Ark, ESO and Valorant, league etc all with cosmetic or pay to win cash shops. FF14's cash shop compared to those games doesn't seem too overpriced, and nor is it pay to win. I understand that we pay a sub, but stuff on there is optional. If I really want something, i wait for the big 50% off sale anyways. The only thing I hate is the overpriced mounts, and the mounts that they could've just put into the game to be earned.
okay
Only thing positive I can say about FFs cash shop is "it could be worse".
I would say the FFXIV cash shop is more egregious than some other games. Especially if you count having to RENT extra retainers each month. But as you pointed out people are happy with the game so there is less grumbling about the cash shop.
SE really needs to let go of the cash shop. If they want extra ways to make money they could improve their merch line up. Partner up with Goodsmile to sell nendos and figurines that don't look ugly up close. Make them more widely available in countries outside NA, JP and EU. Merchandise is a significantly more guilt-free purchase as you're paying for physical, tangible goods and not a microtransaction, its a way better "dump money here to support the game" outlet too.
Cash shops bad, but good luck removing them, Square's marketing division is in charge of it and it's not going anywhere.
The thing that people seem to forget is that since glamour is the real endgame in ffxiv, the mog station is basically no different than a pay-to-win cheat shop…
