The Current State of Job Balance in Dawntrail 7.0

In this video we take a look at how all of the jobs in FFXIV are shaping up a week into this expansion. This is likely to change a bit very soon, but it’s really interesting to see how weird the balance is at the moment!

  1. People dont know this is actually bad. FF team likes to do buffs and if Picto is doing damage, that means there is no need to buff it and will be outbuffed by other classes. Just look at what happened to Reaper.

  2. I’d like to add, idk how accurate this is to the actual dps of the jobs themselves. I went in with one of my rings still being 660 ilvl, and only 1 tome item. So if the type of people who play a certain job are also the type of people to get full-tome gear for a couple ex’s, then the damage will be higher.

Nin players are usually more casual, so I wouldn’t be surprised if most of them didn’t have full tome, this pulling their numbers down

  3. Don't let this stop you from playing a job you enjoy! I expect much of this to smooth out a bit in the next few weeks and as the expansion progresses. They already announced some jobs are getting slight changes in the next patch, and we often see potency tweaks with most patches throughout the expansion. All of the jobs are still viable.

These numbers only matter if you're in a hardcore savage or ultimate group trying for week one clears with bare minimum gear. I think this is a really good starting point and they've done a nice job with the overall balance. With a couple of tweaks we should be in a good spot!

  4. something people overlook is contextual bias. there is a new caster out and the best caster players will be playing it. the damage variance for the job shown at the beginning is a bit wider than the other jobs

  5. Welp, I made some bad choices. Summoner is my old faithful mage, and I just went hard on learning and leveling Ninja instead of going Viper or Reaper like I considered. I also play Pally for my tank, and Scholar is my most played Healer. . . Fml

  6. So the tank dps is the same as it was at the end of last tier. DRK really has no excuse being below WAR and GNB given the lack of utility (comparatively) to them.

  7. Picto is op af lol. I could tell from the beginning of playing it. I'm sure it'll get nurfed but it should be fine. I'm still enjoying my WHM even tho it's at the bottom lol. Awesome vid Vit, thx for the information as always. ❤

  8. appreciate content like this – getting big picture read on the meta. btw, the fact that summoner in a FF game is not easily the coolest/fanciest job is still baffling to me.

  9. I wonder if PCT losing the ability to cheese its burst by manually removing aether hues will affect its numbers down the line. I just couldn’t get into it but I am enjoying Viper just fine.

  10. Somewhat disappointed that the busy raid buff melee is at the bottom…

I am by no means a great ninja, but I think the 2 minute windows in each ex fight make it rather difficult to keep TCJ under trick. It's doable, but in ex1 you need to trick slightly late into puddle bait so you can TCJ immediately after puddles(before ice if you get it 2nd). In ex2 it comes up right in the middle of gateway 1, which sucks but might just require practice. With the current rotation, much drift at all risks pushing Tenri Jindo out of buffs, so its vulnerable to the RNG that both fights have.

  11. Gunbreaker is so Peak right now it is unbelievable.
Especially when played at 2.40 GCD.
While the advantage of having 2.40 is debatable it is just a proper high APM fun.

  12. Thank you for the great video and insight into this data ! My first expac launch + first extreme with Valigar as a red mage and it's been insanely fun, I think dps check isn't tight enough for people to tunnel vision on trying to play a class that isn't to their liking, but these kind of statistical analysis are very cool !

  13. This is only factoring stats from people who cleared the fight.
It's not a telling diagram of how the jobs perform with prog, low latency or more casual players.

I just hope people don't take this out of context and start flaming people who play bard or summoner.

  14. I appreciate you breaking down this info and hopefully you’ll make a follow up video after the patch and normal raids. They’re definitely going to adjust jobs twice before savage drops so I expect a good amount of movement. Honestly, I think these numbers aren’t all that bad considering the sheer number of jobs and I expect things will be much closer come savage. However, I do wonder how accurate of a picture we’re seeing for Black Mage right now as it has a terribly low number of parses as many long time Black Mage mains just aren’t happy with the job in general irregardless of numbers.

  15. There is a falicy when looking at highest damage number vs other jobs. Those numbers get squed when people do parse padding parties. Unless every job is having such a party and played at the top level those number will mean absolutely nothing.

  16. While playing PCT in dungeons I have to be very careful to not pull aggro off the tank during pulls. 😂 No buffs or anything, they just really hate getting hit by a big hammer.

  17. I’m going to preface this by saying I absolutely love Pictomancer and even if they nerf it I would still play it cause it’s rotation is fun and the class is nice to look at. Should it do more damage than black mage? Perhaps, but only when played optimally and while black mage has to correct its positioning to cast better, which I think is more so the problem. Pictos movement opportunities in its rotation are way more forgiving than black mage and that’s something that will more than likely never change about either Job. Picto brings a weak party heal, a 5% damage buff, and a small party shield every 2 minutes, while having no rez. This off the rip makes it worse in utility unlike the other two casters, yet it’s damage is still higher than black mage, a case can certainly be said about tuning down its potencies, but Picto I think is always going to ride a fine line between is it worth bringing cause if it’s damage is worse than black mage and it’s utility is worse than the other two then why does it exist at all? I think when all is said and done Picto and Red Mage are gunna be the progging classes while Black Mage and Summoner are gunna be the raiding classes but we will see I suppose

  18. I don’t care much about this high end stuff in the first place, but in my opinion, a ten percent delta between the very top and very bottom is exceptionally good in terms of balance. And I find statements like „If you are playing Magic DPS and not playing Pictomancer, I don’t know what you are doing“ a little odd. It’s not all about DPS. My conclusion from these stats would be the opposite, something like „When it comes to pure DPS, all jobs are within a 10% range from each other, so just play what appeals most to you in terms of playstyle, visuals or even party needs.
No disrespect, I like your videos and appreciate the information!

  19. Ideally, I think, PCT and RPR should be scaled back just a tad to maybe where the rest of the melee are. And BLM should be fighting over the top slot with SAM and VPR, with no clear winner, they did seem to have nailed the balance of those two in regards to each other as well as the other jobs. Both SMN and MCH should be brought up to roughly where BLM is currently, and for the tanks, DRK and PLD should be brought up to match GNB and WAR respectively, with a slight edge to DRK for the reasons you stated. I think healers are probably pretty good where they are. Obviously, this is just my opinion, which is just as subjective as anyone else's.

  20. They really need to buff MCH. It was the worst class last expac for damage despite being the "selfish phys range dps" and practically nobody brough it to raids, in the last 2 weeks of Anabaseios there were a grand total of 87 machinist parses, the next least parses was Summoner at 351 parses.

The only difference between that expac and this one in terms of balancing is that Machinist is slightly less trash. Looking at the very best cDPS player parse for the 3 phys ranged classes.

    Bard – 23,227
    Dancer – 22,415
    Machinist – 22,180

So machinist contributes the least damage, and has no unique damage or survivability buffs like Bard and Dancer do, making it useless to bring to raids. If you take Dancer you get 300 more damage AND tonnes of helpful buffs for healing and shielding. Obviously if you like the class then that's fine, but no matter what you do you'll never do as much damage as a support class.

IMO Dancer and Bard should be below Machinist in cDPS, but be roughly equal with each other.

  21. I'm not sure these three design pillars are reconcilable:

    1. You should be able to bring any job to any content.
    2. Square needs to make jobs more engaging/difficult for those who want the challenge
    3. X job is harder than Y job so it should do more damage.

I mean I guess you could achieve all that if the content were so easy that the extra damage was just window dressing. Bottom line is the community is always going to be crying about at least one of the three.

People don't want challenge for is own sake – they want challenge if there is a tangible reward that goes with it. A lot of fighting games are like that, where the best characters require incredible skill to master, but they ARE the best characters. The result: a lot of the roster doesn't see play at the highest level.

  22. picto max percentile statistics are inflated by 1-2% because of the non-standard rotation that will get patched soon according to yoshi p, also red mage and summoner damage is always trash at the start of an expansion because the tomestone gear doesn't give you the ideal gcd speed and causes alot of drift

  23. Good job on viper its perfectly aligned with the melees.
But Picto is overtuned as hell. (Maybe because of the buff bug)
I cant speak for BLM since EX1 is veeeeery movement heavy.
So this numbers can be inaccurate.
But overall the rest is pretty fine.
I mean if reaper gets a little spotlight finally after the latest multiple patches where he was bottom, i guess its fine?
Also 100 dps difference is not the worst.
Classes shouldnt be balanced around how "busy" they are.
    Thats a wrong mindset.

  24. I main black mage since 2.0 and I have cleared all the raid with it. If I remember correctly, BLM had infinite Flare glitch back in 2.0 where they suffered the first nerf. They adjusted the tick rate of MP. Soon after, more nerfs was applied then BLM no longer became what it was. At first, it felt like Pictomancer in terms of DPS. BLM was the only Job in the game that could AOE spam. Rest were heavily checked by MP and TP pool. When you saw BLM queued in for dungeons, people got their sigh of relief because if that. BLM were also preferred for FATE farming because they were able to tag all the mobs with Blizzard II which could be cast infinitely. All I am saying is Pictomancer is seeing this protoBLM treatment right now. If they get nerfed, they will become the next BLM where nobody will bothered to play because of the nature of spell casting job. Without that big reward with big damage isn't there, that's RIP for Pictomancer.
