Started Archer because I was a hunter main in WoW not knowing there is no “pet” class in the traditional sense in FFXIV. Leveled up to Bard and switched back forth between that and Paladin for most of Stormblood, never really committing to one or the other (was doing Crafting and Gathering more often at this point. When ShB came out is when I started digging more into the battle jobs.
Importantly, if you want to start out in the healer role from lvl 1, conjurer/white mage is your ONLY choice.
Even though Scholar is a healer, you would be placed in the DPS role as an arcanist.
Interesting how no mention of DANCER for dps or RED mage

When I first started ff14, I played white mage it was alil much for me, but then I switched to Bard and love it. ( Still making my way through heavenward)
I would say warrior over paladin, it gets a heal very early on, rotation is far easier (I believe paladin rotation is deceptively annoying) also once they get to … 56 I think, easy mode truly unlocks. Paladin is a good tank but I would say warrior is more accessible.
